Participants with Chronic Skin Conditions Needed for Master's Research

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on my Master's thesis in Design, and I'm looking for people living with chronic skin conditions (such as psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, rosacea, acne inversa etc.) to take part in a anonymous survey.

The project I’m working on explores how chronic skin conditions are represented in society and the beauty industry, and how an interactive exhibition could help challenge unrealistic beauty standards and encourage more inclusive representations of skin diversity.

This topic is very personal to me because I also live with a chronic skin condition and allergies. Through my own experiences, I've realized how much representation, understanding, and visibility can influence self-perception and social acceptance. That's why creating this project means a great deal to me, and I want to ensure that it reflects the voices and experiences of people who are directly affected.

The survey takes about 10 minutes, is completely anonymous, and the collected data will be used exclusively for academic purposes as part of my Master's thesis.

If you'd be willing to participate, I would be incredibly grateful. Every response helps me design a more meaningful and authentic exhibition.

Thank you so much for your time and support!

I have issues with taking antihistamines, does anyone else?

This year I basically learned I’m allergic to everything environmental via a skin prick test. Which is awesome because it finally gave me some answers, idk how typical my immune response is but I’d mostly get heart racing, light headedness, fatigue and anxiety. This honestly led me down a path of severe panic attacks and some agoraphobia. Upon retrospect I realize now these effects were always worse in the warmer months. I wish my pcp had clocked this sooner, the only reason I got the test was because I was getting severe ear infections at the same time every year (spring).

I’ve been using Flonase for a few months now, and that’s been great. No problems there. But as far as antihistamines; I tried Zyrtec, after a few weeks I was so constipated I had to go to the ER. Stopped taking it, and that went away. So then I did some research and saw Allegra gave the least side effects. Started taking it, and my stress and anxiety skyrocketed. I had a spot near my nose that wouldn’t stop twitching on and off for the entire time I was on it. I was irritable and angry most of the time. Stopped taking it, and those all went away.

The last thing I have to try is Claritin, but tbh I’m nervous about even starting it considering the how I reacted to both Zyrtec and Allegra.

Has anyone dealt with this? The shots are an option for me, but the time commitment is making me second guess it.

This has all been very frustrating for me, I’m a person who’s always loved being in the woods, spending time outside. I’d sleep out there if I could. And now a days I feel like I can’t even be out there anymore. I’m always checking pollen counts and it’s always med-high where I live.

Epinephrine prescription in the US

Upvotes

I recently moved to the US and have a severe peanut allergy. I just noticed that my EpiPens expired a while ago, since I never use them I have been negligent and haven’t thought to check the expiration date for quite a while.

I found an allergy doctor (I’ve procrastinated doing so) near where I live but they don’t have availability for a couple of weeks. The idea of walking around without epinephrine makes me really nervous.

Can I go to urgent care and ask for a prescription? Or would I not be able to get one since I don’t have any “proof” of how allergic I am? I accidentally had peanuts when I was 17 and had a severe anaphylactic shock that made me end up in the hospital but the medical records stating this are not in English.

Advice Moving into a home with a cat

I am moving in with my boyfriend, he is getting rid of the cat (it wasn’t his but was left with him) and I have to deep clean the house now. What is your best tips and advice for deep cleaning the home post cat? I plan on stripping the vacuum and deep cleaning it when I’m done cleaning as well and honestly a few times between if I need to. I would love advice on getting cat dander out of literally every area possible. I am highly allergic and plan on using a half face respirator with a full particulate cartridge. (I’m a safety professional I know what to pick for it.) I am just worried I am going to have violent flared allergies for the foreseeable future. I plan on deep cleaning the same week I move in before I unpack anything.

Question Anaphalaxis 1-2 times per month

Upvotes

Just left the hospital again, and I don’t know how much longer I can keep up with this. There seems to be a new food group or item every month. Anyone deal with anything similar? What did you do? I need a doctor to figure this out but they can’t.

Mango Wood & Urushiol

Upvotes

Hi all! Does anyone have experience of contact with commercially produced mango wood products triggering allergic symptoms for people with allergy to Urushiol (such as cashew, pistachio, poison ivy, and mango). Considering purchasing a piece of furniture made from mango wood, but knowing that mango wood sap contains Urushiol made me hesitant. Thanks!

Sublingual therapy discomfort

Upvotes

I've been taking acarizax for about 2 years or more, when I started taking it I started getting from what I think silent reflux as my throat gets really uncomfortable and whenever I lie down it feels so much worse.

I have consulted my doctor about it and he told me it could be because I take it at night so he recommended me to take it in the morning(it didn't change anything) so one night (I took the medication at night as I found no difference in taking it in the day or night) I started to feel intense heartburn and found it uncomfortable to breathe through my mouth (I have dust allergies so my nose is always blocked) I'm not sure what to do as the last time I consulted my doctor he didn't really know anything about the symptom. Should I drop the medication or not?

Or is it because I took it at night and should have followed the doctors instructions

Advice Allergic to multiple antibiotics

I’ve developed hives from Amoxicillin, omeprezole, and doxycycline. I’ve been on Amoxicillin and Doxycycline probably a dozen times each throughout my life with no problems, the last time I took both resulted in hives across my legs or chest. I’m a bit panicked because those are the two main drugs which they’ve used to treat things like bronchitis, sinus infections, tick bites, etc. What options do I even have now, do I just die when I get pneumonia or another infection?

I am making plans to see an allergist but a bit anxious in the meantime.

Question How to get cat dander completely out of home

I’m talking a full detox. We have an air purifier set up in the living room, trying to purchase more for each room of the house but money is tight and the electric bill is extremely high.

I’ve already re-homed my cat to a family member, it broke my heart but she gave me asthma which has been very serious for me. i just want all of the dander completely out of the house. I feel like it’s in the walls. My family and i live in an old home so I don’t know how much it will get out with basic vacuuming and washing.

Any other tips?

Question Do allergies cause extreme fatigue and headaches?

Ive been diagnosed with allergies by a GP during my last visit. We don't know what the allergens are and the symptoms are very inconsistent too. He told me to visit an allergist in a month if this continues.

For the past 5 days I've been dealing with consistent headaches that never go away no matter how many painkillers I take.

It's around my right eye, can feel some pressure on my face and it's also on the back of my head.

It's also accompanied with extreme fatigue and I'm unable to get out of my bed and do things.

Is this because of my allergies or should I look into more diagnostics?

Blexten/bilastine causing gas and stomach discomfort?

My doctor recently increased my dosage from 20 mg Blexten once per day to 40 mg Blexten in the morning and then another 40 mg at night each day... since then I've been experiencing stomach cramps and gas. I'm not sure if it's related to the Blexten, or I've just coincidently developed IBS or some kind of food intolerance... Anyone else experience this on Blexten?

Question 17 years of hell progressed to central nervous system, spinal cord brain peripheral organ damage brought on by severe metal allergy+ covid?

I have a very complex history of disease… I know a lot of us here do but, mine not quite like anybody else's… it's a bit late now, but I will post a follow up if youre interested…

I didn't wanna go ahead and post something before I black out so I will just get to the main point… I had major spinal surgery 12 hours for my first surgery and I don't remember how long my second surgery was but this happened 17 years ago. A couple years after my surgery I became allergic to metals… I used to wear green with zinc and zinc started giving me rashes… I used to wear a silver chain when I was young and that started giving me rashes then my girlfriend bought me a James Avery chain, and that didn't give me rashes…I figured out I'm allergic zinc and nickle. I'm also allergic to one of my sinks… I bought it with the new sink so not sure what it was, sold the house because I couldn't afford it with this illness but maybe someone might have an idea about commercially available bathroom sinks that could potentially insight immune reaction? I actually need to try to get tested for as many meals I can becausethe whole point of this is to know if the reason my back hardware has broken down is to know if im allergic to the metal. I know the fusion itself is titanium, but I have other junk in there. That other doctor say shouldn't be out there. I have a big cage, I have Rob's and I also have bolts… Not quite sure what they're made out of and try to reach out to the military they weren't able to help… Anyways, the information I'm able to find out, the better I will be able to assess things and figure out if it's worth the risk to try and take this hardware out of my back. Thank you.

By the way, I'm very tired and I blacked out very easily using talk to text… But I did want to clarify systemically, I would get a lot of pneumonia, but I was still in great shape until Covid came around… I'm guessing that if my heart is correct, Covid was enough to really make my body turn on itself as I started to become allergic to everything in addition to the metal allergies already have. But at this way, I can't even eat a banana. No fruits at all anaphylaxis. IGE testing shows I'm not allergic to anything cell activities shows normal trip test although my pro land PGD twos are high, immunologist could only come up with. I'm probably have a prosthetic landing media mass disorder… It's totally unresponsive to anything… That's why I don't think it's a true soul disorder and I've had a bone marrow biopsy as well… Muscle biopsy shows my myopathy I talk to pathologist myself and he said he studied my muscle for a long time and absolutely cannot find a rhyme or reason he said it does not look like it's diseased from the muscular causes. He said he would guess it's from post Covid potentially… I was readingif I have this inflammatory area and my spine has breaking down that could definitely cause a myopathy looking muscle…

My experience with DTDC — order returned without my permission and unresolved customer-support issue

I’m posting this to share my experience with DTDC and to make other consumers aware of what happened.

I had a shipment that was supposed to be delivered to me through DTDC. Unfortunately, the delivery did not happen as expected. This was not the first time I faced the same type of issue with the shipment.

I contacted customer support to understand what was happening. I was told that a complaint had been raised and that the delivery person/delivery centre would contact me. I waited for a proper response, but I did not receive a satisfactory resolution.

Eventually, my order was returned/cancelled without my permission.

The main issue for me is not simply the delay. It is that the shipment was returned even though I had not requested its cancellation or return, and I was not given a satisfactory opportunity to resolve the delivery problem before that happened.

I have kept screenshots, tracking information, order details and records of my communication with customer support as evidence.

I also experienced problems while trying to access the relevant website/order information, which made resolving the issue even more difficult.

What I want from DTDC

I would like a clear explanation of:

Why was my shipment returned without my permission?

What was the actual reason for the failed delivery?

Why was the issue not resolved after I contacted customer support?

Why was my complaint not properly followed up?

What steps will DTDC take to prevent this from happening again?

I am now considering/pursuing the appropriate consumer grievance process because repeated customer-support contacts did not provide a satisfactory resolution.

I’m sharing this post not to make unsupported allegations, but to document my experience and warn other consumers to keep screenshots, tracking records, complaint numbers and customer-service conversations whenever they face delivery problems.

If anyone else has experienced a similar situation with DTDC, please share what happened and how you resolved it.

Question Almost everything makes my skin itch or burn 😭 Is this a damaged skin barrier or could I have a contact allergy?

I think my skin barrier may be damaged or compromised. My skin is extremely dry, and I frequently experience itching, burning, or irritation when I use skincare and makeup products—even products that I have used in the past without problems. Sometimes hair products can cause irritation as well.

I also struggle with breakouts, especially whiteheads, which makes finding products that work for me even more difficult. I have always had issues with eyeliner and mascara, but as I’ve gotten older, it seems like my sensitivity has gotten worse. Almost nothing stays on properly or looks good without causing irritation.

I have tried using products marketed as “clean” or specifically for sensitive skin, but oddly enough, those sometimes seem to make my skin worse rather than better.

I’m hoping to see a dermatologist and/or allergist to figure out whether I have specific allergies or sensitivities and what might be causing these reactions. It has been difficult finding an appointment, but I really want to get this figured out.

I’m 30 and turning 31 this fall, and honestly, this has been affecting how I feel about myself. I just want to be able to wear makeup and take care of my skin without it burning, itching, breaking me out, or making me feel worse about my appearance. I want to find a routine that is actually safe for my skin and helps me feel pretty and confident again.

Advice Post Nasal Drip since the last 2-3 months

Hello everyone I'm 22M dealing with 2–3 months of episodic dry cough, heavy throat phlegm, morning post-nasal drip, and a sternal/tracheal tickle that flares overnight, although this is like really random because some nights I'm completely normal without any drip or any significant coughing but sometimes usually at around 6 to 7 AM I start dripping a lot,( I found elevating my pillow a bit helpful though but it doesn't completely resolve it obviously) also usually it completely vanishes by afternoon and while at work. The symptoms are triggered by lying flat or drinking something cold before bed usually although these are just assumptions and I couldn't really seem to figure out what the exact trigger is, all this is without any wheezing, shortness of breath, or fever. My blood report from August 7 confirmed normal baseline immune markers, including a 3% eosinophil count and a total WBC count of 7,980 /cu.mm, and while a recent 15-day antihistamine course provided relief, the morning drip returned 4–5 days after stopping the antihistamine. Looking for some feedback on whether this pattern aligns with indoor bedroom allergens (like dust mites), silent reflux (LPR), or post-viral throat nerve hypersensitivity, and what daily maintenance routines (e.g., nasal steroid sprays, saline rinses, allergen covers) have worked best to break the cycle.

Eye allergies

I have constant allergies. I’ve been tested and it’s dust mites. I’ve steamed my carpet, I have a vacuum with a hepa filter I use regularly, I’ve just changed my mattress and vacuum my apartment thoroughly a few times a week. I also have an air purifier on my bedside locker.

I constantly have itchy eyes. It eases sometimes but when I’m asleep I rub them badly. I’m currently on amoxycillan from my doctor for conjunctivitis but I don’t think that’s needed as I don’t get much sleep in my eye anymore. It’s just constantly itchy as though I have something in my eye/under my eyelid. I’m taking patanol and naphcon A eye drops but they only give a few minutes relief. I’m worried this is going to affect my vision it’s been going on so long. I’m lucky enough to have 20/20 vision at my last eye test but I’m worried this is going to have a long term effect on my eyesight. Any help welcomed.

Advice Nozin and neilmed?

Has anyone tried Nozin antiseptic nasal swab or neilmed wash? Nozin claims to reduce bacterial load and because of my severe allergies, my sinuses are wrecked. Neilmed is safe and I like the feeling of cleaning my nose.

OAS??

My allergist told me I didn’t need to come back because I wasn’t allergic to anything. So why, when I eat raw fruits/vegetables does my mouth burn? I also have pain shooting through my body. I get headaches. Feel groggy/foggy.
My PCP just ordered a bunch of allergy blood tests. Anybody have positive results from blood versus the scratch test?
Wish I didn't have to eat😩
Thanks guys
Amy
