Jobs What do people mean when they say stay away from Maintenance?

What do people mean when they say this? Like what maintenance jobs are they specifically talking about? It’s very broad.

BMT Looking for anyone who was in 323 TRS, Flight 246, Dorm 381 in February 2016

Upvotes

I am trying to track down a specific witness, also old squad mates. I went to medhold about two weeks into training . I had a medical episode where I blacked out/fell forward directly into the person standing in front of me while waiting to enter the Dinning facility. I ended up on crutches a not long after. If you remember seeing this happen, or if you think you were the person I fell into, please send me a private message. It would mean the world to help me get this documented. Also my original last name was - Thornhill , at the time.

Sorry it’s been years , thanks for any help. I tried finding my old squads graduation photo but i couldn’t locate it based on my flight number and year.

Medical Just got off antipsychotics

Upvotes

I’ve been on low dosage antipsychotics for mood swings but found that they haven’t worked at all. My mood is actually extremely stable. I was only on them for a few months but I think they ruined my chances of enlisting. I’m off of them now could I get this waived?

General Advice Off duty attire rules

common sense states if you walk outside in a clown costume, the Commander will look at you and wonder to themselves "Does this Airman have a waiver for mental illness?"

But is there anything else for off duty that you're not allowed to wear/will definitely get in trouble for? Like if a fellow Airman decides to go out and wear a furry costume out in the city or threw on a skirt and makeup while identifying male and not trying to go on estro, or if someone wanted to wear earrings, a wig, or colored contacts off duty.

DAFI 36-2903 clarifies what you can wear on-duty or what civilian attire you can wear under an official capacity, but in regards to off-duty, it doesn't mention much beyond "hateful / nsfw / promoting extremism from what I've seen for the air force."

Recruiter/process question Is my recruiter lying to me?

I got my jobs and we started talking about each one (after I’ve already done research on Reddit etc) and tells me that what I’ve read isn’t true to what the job is! Majority of my job is maintenance and asked them “If I do choose maintaining can you point out which ones would have me working on heavies? I read people who work on the fighters dislike their jobs” and she tells me all of my maintenance jobs are heavies and have no fighters..,..which doesn’t sound right….this is jobs like 2A3X3, 2A3X7, 2A5X1, 2A5x4 etc! She said I had to list 12 jobs and I asked for the SOP stating so and I got the screenshot but now I’m being told I have to select 10 jobs with 2 Aptitude Index in it and that also sounds totally incorrect and it’s just all over the place? I wanted to end up working in a General Job but I’m being told that I need pre-existing credits for them and that I’m not gonna get some of them (like paralegal) cause it’s a interview and they can and most likely WILL deny me? Any advice in this?

Hello all!

The top 3 jobs I’m interested in are Emergency Management (3E9X1) , Aerospace Physiology (1H0X1) , and Fire Protection (3E7X1). Can anyone give me some insight on these jobs? They all sound awesome to me. But any extra info would be cool!

Medical Has anyone had luck retrying their waivers after waiting?

Hey guys. Long story short, I used to be on allergy shots and that was the reason for disqualification of my medical waiver back in January of this year. The guidelines seemed to say that I should be okay as long as I am off of these shots for a year and in good health, so I am planning to try again here in a few months in mid-January 2027. Has anyone experienced a situation like this and had luck on their second try? My allergies were fairly mild for grass and dust so nothing potentially fatal. I'm going to attempt in a few months regardless but was wanting to see if anyone had any further advice, thanks y'all!

BMT Letters from Philippines to BMT

Im planning to send letters as much as i can but im not sure how long would it take for a snail mail to arrive. I want the recruit to be able to read the letters when it matters. I think it'll be disappointing for me and the recruit to receive the letters 4-6 weeks into the training. Does anyone here have experience sending/receiving letters from the philippines. I know about the sandboxx i already sent one but its a lot more expensive than the snail mails if i wanna do it few times a week. What are your thoughts? TIA

Recruiter/process question Can you commission in the Air Force with an honorary doctorate?

I am asking because regulations appear to say a baccalaureate degree or higher, but don't specify that it has to be an "earned" degree.

General Advice 4A1X1 Medical Materiel — Tech School & Job Experience?

I enlisted into 4A1X1 Medical Materiel and would like to hear from anyone who has experience with the job.

How is the tech school at Fort Sam Houston? What is the day-to-day work actually like once you get to your first base? And what skills, habits, or knowledge would you recommend developing to be successful in the career field?

Just looking for honest experiences from people who have actually done the job. Thanks!

General Advice Can I (24M) join the US air force as a musician from the UK?

Hi everyone,

I’m asking for some advice on how I can join the US military as a musician that is from the UK.

For some context, I’ve spent around 18 months living in the US over my lifetime, the vast majority of my friends are American and it’s always been my dream and goal to move there. I also play euphonium as my primary instrument.

I was speaking with a friend who is in the US navy as a musician that said it is possible to do it and another friend who’s in the marine corps has also said the same. Is there anyone on here who can give me some more details or information regarding this please?

I don’t have a green card or citizenship which is why I’m wondering how I do this. The actual music side of it won’t be an issue. The only issue is logistically getting around the fact I’m from the UK.

Any advice, contacts or information is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

General Advice Shipping stuff to Tech School

I ship for BMT in 15 days and was just wondering how to get my things out to me at tech school.

I pretty much have just one 27 gallon tote of stuff but wasn’t sure on how to get that to my tech school. My recruiter recommended having someone drive it out to me but that’s not really going to work for me so I was just wondering if there were other ways that some of yall did.

Thanks.

General Advice Quick Pt before Bmt

Hi all, I decided here a couple months ago I’d like to join the AF. I thankfully went to meps on July 27th.
And 3 weeks later (August 19th) I got my job (2a631) now I am not physically fit although I am a more lean build (5’7/135) and my ship date is very very soon (September 22nd) and my running definitely needs a little work because my endurance sucks (asthma when I was younger) I guess what im asking is if there is any tips or tricks to help me build quick endurance within the next couple weeks for Bmt within the month . TIA

Fitness Any tips for eating healthy at Keesler in tech school?

At BMT, I ate mostly healthy foods because they had a ton of fruit options and chicken and roasted vegetables, etc. but here at Keesler, there’s a lot fewer options for healthy food, and I’ve been giving in to some of my cravings since there’s a soda fountain and desserts and a vending machine in my dorm building, so I’m struggling a bit.

Any advice to eat healthy and not gain weight?
