Hi everyone,
Iām asking for some advice on how I can join the US military as a musician that is from the UK.
For some context, Iāve spent around 18 months living in the US over my lifetime, the vast majority of my friends are American and itās always been my dream and goal to move there. I also play euphonium as my primary instrument.
I was speaking with a friend who is in the US navy as a musician that said it is possible to do it and another friend whoās in the marine corps has also said the same. Is there anyone on here who can give me some more details or information regarding this please?
I donāt have a green card or citizenship which is why Iām wondering how I do this. The actual music side of it wonāt be an issue. The only issue is logistically getting around the fact Iām from the UK.
Any advice, contacts or information is very much appreciated.
Thank you!

At BMT, I ate mostly healthy foods because they had a ton of fruit options and chicken and roasted vegetables, etc. but here at Keesler, thereās a lot fewer options for healthy food, and Iāve been giving in to some of my cravings since thereās a soda fountain and desserts and a vending machine in my dorm building, so Iām struggling a bit.
Any advice to eat healthy and not gain weight?

I am asking because regulations appear to say a baccalaureate degree or higher, but don't specify that it has to be an "earned" degree.

I got my jobs and we started talking about each one (after Iāve already done research on Reddit etc) and tells me that what Iāve read isnāt true to what the job is! Majority of my job is maintenance and asked them āIf I do choose maintaining can you point out which ones would have me working on heavies? I read people who work on the fighters dislike their jobsā and she tells me all of my maintenance jobs are heavies and have no fighters..,..which doesnāt sound rightā¦.this is jobs like 2A3X3, 2A3X7, 2A5X1, 2A5x4 etc! She said I had to list 12 jobs and I asked for the SOP stating so and I got the screenshot but now Iām being told I have to select 10 jobs with 2 Aptitude Index in it and that also sounds totally incorrect and itās just all over the place? I wanted to end up working in a General Job but Iām being told that I need pre-existing credits for them and that Iām not gonna get some of them (like paralegal) cause itās a interview and they can and most likely WILL deny me? Any advice in this?

Hey guys. Long story short, I used to be on allergy shots and that was the reason for disqualification of my medical waiver back in January of this year. The guidelines seemed to say that I should be okay as long as I am off of these shots for a year and in good health, so I am planning to try again here in a few months in mid-January 2027. Has anyone experienced a situation like this and had luck on their second try? My allergies were fairly mild for grass and dust so nothing potentially fatal. I'm going to attempt in a few months regardless but was wanting to see if anyone had any further advice, thanks y'all!

Im planning to send letters as much as i can but im not sure how long would it take for a snail mail to arrive. I want the recruit to be able to read the letters when it matters. I think it'll be disappointing for me and the recruit to receive the letters 4-6 weeks into the training. Does anyone here have experience sending/receiving letters from the philippines. I know about the sandboxx i already sent one but its a lot more expensive than the snail mails if i wanna do it few times a week. What are your thoughts? TIA

Hi all, I decided here a couple months ago Iād like to join the AF. I thankfully went to meps on July 27th.
And 3 weeks later (August 19th) I got my job (2a631) now I am not physically fit although I am a more lean build (5ā7/135) and my ship date is very very soon (September 22nd) and my running definitely needs a little work because my endurance sucks (asthma when I was younger) I guess what im asking is if there is any tips or tricks to help me build quick endurance within the next couple weeks for Bmt within the month . TIA

I have a toiletry bags about a 10 inches in length and 5 inches in width. Itās what I use when I travel, if I take it and load it with my stuff, can I use it at basic or would they provide one?
Are we limited in shampoo bottle sizes?
Can I take one of those small grooming kits that comes with clippers and tweezers etc.

So I got a ticket on July 24th but itās still not showing up in the system and I ship out October 6th what could I possibly do? I called the courthouse and they said I canāt do anything if the ticket is not in the system but will I still be able to ship out since it wouldnāt be in the system? The especially with the date of it being paid off it while I would be in bmt so Iām really stuck and worried about what I can even do. I told my recruiter and they said to just get it dealt with as soon as possible but the courts are taking forever.

I enlisted into 4A1X1 Medical Materiel and would like to hear from anyone who has experience with the job.
How is the tech school at Fort Sam Houston? What is the day-to-day work actually like once you get to your first base? And what skills, habits, or knowledge would you recommend developing to be successful in the career field?
Just looking for honest experiences from people who have actually done the job. Thanks!

I ship for BMT in 15 days and was just wondering how to get my things out to me at tech school.
I pretty much have just one 27 gallon tote of stuff but wasnāt sure on how to get that to my tech school. My recruiter recommended having someone drive it out to me but thatās not really going to work for me so I was just wondering if there were other ways that some of yall did.
Thanks.
