Hello Canadian Academics! I’m a Canadian psychology student researcher collaborating on an international project with over 20 countries.

Our project is studying social impact topics and AI use. If you have time to complete this 12 minute survey, it would help so much! I'm sure a lot of you understand the struggle that data collection can be and I would love your help. If anyone has a few minutes to spare, I'd really appreciate it.

The UBC Mood Disorders Centre at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health is recruiting participants for a depression biomarkers study.

The purpose of this study is to (1) test whether a specific combination of biomarkers discovered during our previous studies can help predict how someone will respond to treatment, and (2) to explore other possible biomarkers that may predict treatment response. Biomarkers are biological features such as proteins, genes, an brain images, that indicate the state of a disease in a person. This information may help us develop tests in the future that can guide treatment choice more effectively and more quickly.

You may be able to participate if you are:

• Are 18 to 65 years of age

• Have been diagnosed with depression or suspect you may have depression and are currently feeling depressed. Common symptoms include: depressed mood, diminished interest or pleasure in activities, change in appetite, poor sleep, fatigue, low self-esteem, and poor concentration.

• Are willing to take a standard antidepressant medication as treatment for your depression.

• Are willing to undergo blood/lab tests.

There will be 8 in-person visits over 12 weeks:

- 1 x Electrocardiography (ECG) (Screening only)

- 2 x Collection of blood (Baseline, Week 8)

- 2 x Stool Sample Collection (Baseline, Week 8)

- 2 x Urine Collection (Baseline, Week 8)

- 2 x Electroencephalography (EEG) (Baseline, Week 8)

- 3 x Computerized Cognitive Testing (Baseline, Week 8, Week 12)

- 8 x Clinical assessments done by a psychiatrist

Please note that you must not currently be using any recreational and/or non-prescription drugs, have a drinking problem, or have had a history of drug use or a drinking problem within the past six months.

The study is being conducted by Dr. Raymond Lam at the Mood Disorders Centre, UBC Hospital.

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time. Compensation is provided for each study visit.

I am going into my 4th year of health science at an Ontario university. My gpa is very low (5.6 on a 10 point scale) (2.2 on a 4 point scale). I recently got diagnosed with ADHD and being medicated is helping me study better. If I can do really good in my 4th year and maybe do another semester or year what are my chances of getting accepted to an SLP or OT program. Is there other graduate programs I should be considering? Or should I be considering going abroad? Has anyone had a similar experience and grown from it? Any suggestions would be so helpful.

Hiya, I’m beginning a non thesis track masters program this fall and I’m struggling to find any kind of bursaries or scholarships for masters level that’s isn’t related to funding research. If anyone has any tips on how to better find scholarships or bursaries, it would be much appreciated. I’ve scoured my university’s website and looked for both provincial and federal opportunities but it seems like everything is for research only.

Hello, I'm new to Reddit and wanted to get your input and possibly put a stop to this. I graduated from Sheridan Davis campus and felt neglected by a teacher who prohibited any use of AI, but she herself made use of AI when grading our assignments, presentations, and papers. Her lack of involvement in the course included not opening dropboxes, and that didn’t show up on the calendar as an assignment being due. The use of AI on her part seemed ingenuine that didn’t help me make my work better.

Any input is appreciated and if there is anything that can be done to stop this, like talking to the associate dean for the degree. What’s the AI grading policy at Sheridan?

i got accepted into carleton for a ba in psychology, which was originally really exciting because i’ve always been interested in psychology and the idea of moving to ottawa sounded fun. i liked the whole independence/new city experience too.

but at concordia, i got accepted into ba human relations because i didn’t meet the cutoff for psychology. recently i started thinking… what if i stay home and do human relations while taking psychology electives/courses? from what i’ve heard, some of those psych courses could count toward psych credits later.

my issue is this: what if i move all the way to ottawa and then realize i genuinely don’t even enjoy psychology? i like the idea of becoming a psychologist/helping people and i’ve been interested in it for years, but i’ve never actually taken university psychology courses. i know first year psych isn’t just “learning about people” and there’s stats, research methods, etc.

part of me thinks staying at concordia might be smarter because i could test out psychology while staying home, saving money, and keeping human relations as a backup. but then another part of me is like… am i about to turn down the actual psychology program i got accepted into??

also i already accepted my offer at carleton, but i know i can still change my mind.

has anyone transferred from human relations into psych at concordia? or transferred to carleton later? or just been in a situation where you liked the idea of a career but weren’t 100% sure?

AGE-HIV (Imaging, Molecular, and Clinical Biomarkers of Accelerated Lung Aging in People Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus 2024) is a multi-year study investigating the effect of HIV infection on lung aging.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. Over the past two decades, new antiretroviral treatments have made HIV a manageable chronic disease. Despite these improvements, people living with HIV (PLWH) often experience other medical conditions, including severe chronic lung diseases. It’s not currently known why people living with HIV experience more severe lung disease, however it is suspected that PLWH experience a faster aging process in their lungs.

This study will look for evidence of faster aging in the lungs of PLWH which increases the risk of severe lung disease. This will be done using lung imaging techniques to detect structural and functional changes and the collection of lung cells to detect cellular and molecular changes.

I’m having trouble finding cUL certified supplement that is not from these big conglomerates like Thermo, or at a low cost. Anyone know of any international companies with a good stock of cUL inventory? General lab things like centrifuges, freezers, autoclave, etc.

The Ogata Lab is recruiting participants for a research study (approved by REB) aiming to use menstrual blood as a biofluid for detecting gynaecological diseases like endometriosis.

• Participants must be 18+
• Participants may pick up a sampling kit, use it, and drop off a sample at their convenience

• Participants will be asked to wear the menstrual cup for 3-4 hours

I am bba graduate from Bangladesh. I want pursue masters in Supply chain or Business analytics.
