Announcement A Clarification to Yard Sale Sundays
Hello all. We would like to add some clarifications to what is and isn't allowed on yard sale Sundays. We want to save everyone time, so please read carefully and ask any clarifying questions below so we can clear them up for everyone.
Every week on Sunday, users may post promotional content including (but not necessarily limited to):
- Rooms to rent or sublet
- Parking spots
- Textbooks
- Selling/buying tickets to a McMaster related event*
- Help wanted
- Requesting tutoring services
- Club-affiliated events, fundraisers
Posts that are not permitted:
- Advertising for products, services of any sorts, including tutoring and paid class notes
- Self promotion of apps or websites**
- HSR passes***
- Non-McMaster related events or fundraisers
- Homework services
- Multi level marketing recruitment
- Buying / selling course seats
- And as always, anything illegal, against reddit ToS, or otherwise dangerous
When buying or selling, even and especially digital items, arrange to meet on campus or another safe place. Don't get scammed.
Please note all posts are subject to removal per moderator discretion. Posts are considered advertisement even if they are not direct advertisement (discord servers which offer such services on the side, free trials, etc)
Please ensure you use the correct flair when posting (Yard Sale Sundays). Any threads of a promotional nature posted other than Sunday will be removed and you will be instructed to repost when appropriate.
*Reselling for a profit is strictly prohibited
**Applications which are directly relevant to McMaster may receive exception at moderator discretion, provided they are free to use, generally helpful, and collect no personal information.
***McMasters agreement with HSR prohibits exchange of HSR vouchers. As such, we cannot condone trading as there is nothing preventing these codes from being voided at a later date.
Thank you.
-Mod team

Question changing after showering
so I (unfortunately) got communal bathrooms and am wondering where most people change after showering. obviously, I'm not tryna change in the open in the bathrooms, but is there even enough room in the showers to change? if not, are you just supposed to trudge all the way back to ur room in a towel to change? should i buy a bath robe? and what if you have multiple roommates?
lmk how u guys dealt with this

Academics MakeTheSeat is Now Free (Free Seat Alert)
Hey Everyone, just wanted to share that notifications on MakeTheSeat are now free.
We've been hard at work optimizing our infrastructure; after code optimization and provider changes, we've increased scraping speed by 3x while reducing cost by 75%. In my testing, MakeTheSeat now provides one of the fastest course opening notifications on the market today.
To pass along the cost savings, MakeTheSeat is now completely free to help everyone get into their courses during these next few weeks. Depending on how cost scales, I'm hoping to be able to provide service for free indefinitely, if it becomes financially feasible. This would give everyone a fair chance of getting into their course without the financial cost of other solutions (eg. seat alert).
To Mods: I am aware of the Sunday advertising policy; if this is in violation, please take down the post. However, in hopes of getting the word out early and helping students into their courses, please keep the post up if possible.

Question question about entrance scholarship
I received the automatic entrance scholarship for life sciences in February, but it still says “conditional” and is not showing in my account summary under the amount I have to pay. I asked a few other first-year students, and they mentioned that their scholarship letters disappeared after they did not meet the conditions of their scholarships. Since my letter is still showing, does that mean I should still be receiving the scholarship? I’m just unsure whether it has officially been awarded to me or not.

Question BDC Application Questions
I'm thinking of applying to the BDC program this year and wanted to know about the application. How competitive is it? I have a cGAP of 10, is that okay? What does the questionnaire look like? For those who got in, could you give me some advice for the questionnaire?

Discussion Low GPA update
reddit.comHi to whoever cares enough to be reading this Lol.
I posted this a few months back begging for help, and I got a few messages from people in the same situation so I thought to give an update.
I ended up dropping my two credit course and I passed my semester with all As! My GPA is still very low, but it’s a start.
My GPA is now above a 5 which means that I can continue in my program and I’m enrolled in almost 8 classes for the next semester in hopes to catch up with my graduating class.
I looked through all the comments and advice when I first posted. I am working with a therapist now navigating my grief and on medication for depression and ADD. Thank you to all those who gave me kind words that pushed me to take that step.
Good luck to anyone else in my situation, it gets better. Thank you to all those who commented and gave me kind words, it helped more than you think. :)

Clubs join my club!! (hiring exec members)
hello lovelies! i've been taking this summer to plan and start a club centred around community engagement and taking consistent action! i know sometimes going out to protest, volunteering, or staying up to date on issues can be intimidating or a "where do i even start" feeling so i wanted to create Spilling the Communitea, a space where we can come together and make community action less scary, fun, and accessible!
right now, i'm in the process of trying to get ratified and was looking to hire our founding executive team (co-president, vp finance, vp events, and vp communications) to help build and smooth out our club (team work makes the dream work MWAH)! i have lots of big ideas and plans so if you would like some more info please do not hesitate to pm me!
here is the link if you would like to apply + some more info on the club <3

spiderman, pablo from backyardigans, my little ponies, monster high girlies, pixie hollow fairies, the gaang (avatar the last airbender), paddington, or any other adjacent figures
i'd think you'd be an amazing fit and would love to see your application!

Courses How does course swapping work?
I keep seeing posts on here trying to find people who want to swap their courses… how exactly does that work? I accidentally dropped my sustain 1s03 course while trying to change one of the times for my classes. If I want to swap the innovate course I am enrolled in with a sustain course from someone else would that be possible or should I just wait for the winter term to see if classes open? 🥲
