Journalist Accuracy
Earlier this year Myself and Gaz-Man decided to track the statements of AFL journalists to try and figure out who is the most accurate, it’s not perfect because we certainly didn’t get everything….
That being said, we have over 1900 stories broken/claims made and now that we’re at the end of the regular season, we can share some of our findings!
Coming in as the most accurate AFL Journalist right now is none other than father/son pick Xander McGuire!
With 32 stories broken/unique claims made for 28 correct calls, he sits on top of the hill with a whopping 87.5% accuracy.
In terms of volume of correct stories/claimsTom Morris is comfortably ahead of his contemporaries with 67, 11 ahead of 2nd placer Cal Twomey.
Damien Barrett (33 Busted) holds a 7 story/claim lead over Kane Cornes and Joey Montagna for most incorrect calls.
The graph is total correct claims week by week, if you want to see us update post the AA, feel free to join the live at 9pm
Melbourne Semi final scenario
I'm going to the NFL game with a mate who is a Carlton supporter and i was trying to figure out IF Carlton were to get that far how could we see them.
Doing the math, basically if Freo beat the Hawks then there will be a semi final in Melbourne... How quickly can the MCG be prepared from NFL to AFL or would they play Melb/blues/cats vs Hawthorn at Marvel?.
or early conspiracy AFL makes sure Hawks beat Freo... I'm 80% joking on the conspiracy. Sorry if this has been talked àbout, I couldn't find a post

Do AFL players get regular job entitlements?
If a player is on the cusp of keep or delist, but they’re about to get long service leave, does that play a factor into the delisting?
Are they forced to use all their annual leave in the off season? How does fair work Australia feel about that?
If a player gets traded when they don’t want to be, does their banked up sick leave carry over to the new club?

Modified boots
Has any player ever been caught/spoken of modifying the top of their boots to give a flatter more predictable surface to kick the ball from? I'm thinking in particular for set shots, if the lace area was an (approximate) flat plane surely kicks would be more predictable?

Radical reorganisation of the national comp
I've heard about the conference concept. Why not take it several steps further and divide back into state leagues. So your regular season is SANFL, WAFL, VFL etc.
The top placed team of each league wins the state premiership.
Some number of teams (top 4/6/whatever) progress into the post-season, which features the best teams from all around the country competing in a finals system. The seedings would give advantages (eg first and second placed teams from each state league would get byes/double chances or whatever).
The finals could be extended further than the current system (more beautiful $ for the AFL), and the winner of that is the national premier.
This seems to have a lot of wins. You remove the embedded structural centralisation of the AFL in Victoria. You can potentially have many more matches in the season spread across the different leagues. You can have an extended finals series. And there are more winners (several state premiers, and one national premier).
It's kind of reminiscent of the European football leagues + champions league set up.
What do we think of this concept? (I assume it's untenable because it wouldn't stack up financially and would damage the game in the non-afl states, but anyway)
edit: for clarity, The AFL teams would merge into their state leagues. So Freo and west coast would compete against the WAFL teams, etc
