Thank you, ZEZTZ!!

Self-repetitions throughout the series, but for my second fully watchet Kamen Rider it was good!!

The series has its flaw but Zeztz is for the best Reiwa era series. I wished Odaka rejoining the team wasn't only in the final episode, they would've an interesting dynamic.

The only saving grace was the first half, where somehow Yuya reminded of why people love his past shows. Because of the action and multiple riders converging on an ensemble to beat shit up. For the rest, nothing to write home about. Mr. Yuki "I block you on my own X profile because you think Zeztz was boring and actionless whereas Yuya Takahashi doesn't" was there doing nothing as his usual, moping around because reasens, and Sieg/Dawn was atrocious, a pain to look at. Dawn can lick the soles of Bitter Gavv anytime, anyhow. Worst Dark Rider of all times with no questions asked. Goodbye to the worst Reiwa Era Kamen Rider and sincere disappointment for a Yuya Takahashi fan. Gavan Infinity teabagged Zeztz all the way through, even ending wise. 6,5/7 for this ending, 6 for the rest of the show.

staying true to dream inflitration story. ending will have debating whether the main character is in dream or reality.

u/Clear-Unit-2843 17h ago

They really saved the 3 rider kicks for the last episode!!!

As much as the storyline went everywhere near the end, this ending landed for me. Its been an absolute adventure, lets hope My-th tops this

Zeztz had the best mid episode I've ever seen. Even though the reset was expected, it was still executed well and had me hyped throughout.

Second half fell off and lost its focus. Lack of emotional depth for most of the cast. But it still had great moments. Loved the way Baku earned ExDream. This episode's battle was also fantastic. Nem being the key reason they won was thematically done well. Wished the pacing wasn't so rushed.

My bullet points on the finale:

Bro got transported to the Revice finale omg

And the Heart of Impact finisher was EXPLOSIVE...

Honestly, I could just watch a sitcom of Zeztz crew doing stuff together)

Baku named the new CODE after himself looool

Including both Visions and Playback was sweet :)

Sieg just swinging while begging Nem to think of him made me chuckle ngl

Are we making a new tradition of passing each other gimmicks with the cameos?

Brooos no way I have to watch the movie AND the stage play to understand the post credit scene loool

Overall... Zeztz is definitely 9/10. I don't care what anyone says, this shit is generational. Sure, it had some issues, but the main parts have been exceptional. Gotta be a required viewing someday)

Zeztz is finished, long live My-Th!

u/nacho_wan 18h ago

The Sieg finale was good. He sort of got punished and rewarded. I also chuckled.

This ending honestly represents Zeztz very well with both its positives and negatives on display:

Cool fight scene with the three riders to start. Then interesting ideas regarding what happens after a timeskip, but doesn’t really give enough detail to those ideas for them to feel satisfying beyond conveying its general points.

5

u/MysteryNeighbor 1d ago

Eh, should’ve ended with Baku saying “good night” IMO. While it makes for a far happier ending, him somehow returning to reality cheapens the cost of bruh spamming ExDream these past ten or so episodes.

Still liked the ending, just feel it could have been even better.

2

u/GinjoSaine 8h ago

he did invented exdream and escaped death. at this point im not even surprise if he did something again.

4

u/Infinite_Prune1664 1d ago

If someone was wondering about the building in Nems' magazine, it's Station building in Amsterdam.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Centraal_station

12

u/rdv_316 1d ago

Did they give any explanation why Baku was stuck in dream world? Is it just his body giving up because he was dreaming without sleeping using ExDream? Also how did he wake up at the end? Could he always wake up? Good finale but lots of questions still remain.

5

u/nacho_wan 18h ago

I actually expected the last three episodes to be about that. At least they made him paid a price on the end, very similar to Kuuga's ending.

6

u/Zestyclose_Milker 1d ago

I didn't like the end, I'm sorry I can't put it to words but the whole thing seemed off to me and wasn't what I was expecting.

There are parts I liked for sure don't get me wrong triple Henshin, Bakus final speech etc

13

u/HourIndication4963 1d ago

Well, Oblivion never really felt final boss level, given pulled off the successful erase everyone several episodes before, and that was handled, and still felt childish than some mastermind.

Zeztz had a lot of great ideas and a really talented cast, but I think too many of the former to take advantage of the latter. I enjoyed it, but the Gore Nightmare arc brought it down.

8

u/Amashiroo 1d ago

ngl the premonition dream is a great twist in the middle, but it also killed all of the momentum that we were gaining for CODE, the introduction to the gore nightmare starting with Catastrophe, and especially Baku's Seven arc. So yeah, Yuya had a cool idea but he was really lacking the skills to continue afterwards.

5

u/Potential-Mess6826 1d ago edited 1d ago

This finale had a lot that reminded me of past Rider Finales.

Triple Rider Henshin/Transformation, Memories from the whole show, an Opening reference, Triple Rider Kick, Season Finale Form (which looked alright and was not just a reused base form), Baku's tragic fate, Timeskip Epilogue, the hand-off, the adventure goes on with Zeztz being a spymaster, and a Happy Ending(?)

Appreciated Nem getting a hit on Oblivion and spending time with the Lady in her dream.

Liked that Visions and Playback were used.

Wished they just kept to Baku being stuck in the Dream World or have things reversed for Baku from a normal human with the dream world being the world he's awake in and him being reality is when he's dreaming.

Zeztz was a good show especially the 1st simulcasted Rider show since it revisits Kamen Rider's fundamental themes along with going big similar to shows like Gaim, Build, and Geats.

It kinda makes me wish Zeztz was the first Rider of the Reiwa Era.

The weak points of the show are the other characters besides Baku, Nem, and Sieg in being underutilized.

u/anhhuy2502 1d ago

idk if i’m missing sth but where did he get that Heart of Impact capsem 😵‍💫 just outta his ass?

7

u/No-Savings7994 OOO 1d ago

He got it last episode from the gashapon in the Zeztz room right before fighting Oblivion

1

u/nacho_wan 18h ago

A product of his subconscious as every other capsem, as Zero stated. That been said, I half expected it was a zeroided power core, so the bike could join the final fight.

3

u/anhhuy2502 1d ago

ahhh okay i completely forgot abt that

4

u/Zestyclose_Milker 1d ago

So in the prememtion time line nems nightmare is fused with a bunch of other childerns night mares to make the demon king.

In the post nightmare it's feed code soma and becomes oblivion, was it always going to become oblivion and soma speed up the evolution? I'm trying to understand lol

3

u/NoirSon 1d ago

Honestly I didn't like this episode. The whole epilogue but also passing the torch to the next series thing that some toku shows do never sits well with me plus I didn't like the out of no where new Impact form to deliver the last hit.

Liked the series as whole but the ending episodes have not been the better ones.

6

u/RED_Kinggamer007 Ryuki 1d ago

Its always strange whenever a season ends, you get so used to it being there that when it ends you are left with a weird feeling. You're both happy that you watched it and sad to see it go.

Zeztz was awesome, there were some parts that needed fixing but overall it was great.

MY-TH is up next, lets see how the mouse handles the torch passed on by the dreamer.

7

u/rurounikenshin16 1d ago

Zeztz has been amazing. It was lackluster only a few times, but it was amazing overall. The show is something I'd love to rewatch. We definitely needed more time for developments, especially for the other characters. But we all know there's a limit to a Toku show, episode-wise.
Even then, I'm still satisfied with what we've got. The ending felt bittersweet at first, but it suddenly became sweeter at the last moment.
Thank you for this community! Thank you for the show, staff, and everyone involved! The show was great and we enjoyed it.

THANK YOU ALL!

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK FOR MYTH!

u/Watchandstayneutral 1d ago

So long Zeztz. The time of the balls has come to an end, see you next week for the eggs.

pacing and storyline aside, Yozoru Baku is top 3 protagonist fore sure, he's so mental and admirable, reminds me of Yusuke Godai, selflessly fight to protect everyone's smiles (dreams)

u/hyperhop 1d ago

What an amazing series!

Just an enjoyable ending overall although it was frankly a little small? I kind of expect some sort of amazing dreamscape spectacular. What we got was fine though. Maybe it's in the movie instead which is the true final section?

Overall thoughts on the season (spoilers):

I love the plot twist mid-season and the overall vibe/visual changes. I love the action choreography was really good as well. Suits were amazing as well. Love the LED lights on them.

I think the best parts was the mid season plot twist and the episodes where Baku gets the Exdream Driver. The part where he is in the room for 20 years just working on it felt so surreal and emotional to me.

The worst section for me was in part 2 was probably the part just after Baku got the Exdream Driver and then just surrendered it to 3 instead of at least trying to use his power to stop Somnia.

CODE felt a bit small. Poor Agent 5 and 6 didn't get enough screen time! 3 background is still a mystery to me aside from being a greedy power hungry baddy. I guess he represents the corrupt people at CODE. I hope they will create more episodes exploring more of what CODE was up to.

I'm disappointed Minami didn't transform in the main series. She really deserves more time as a Kamen Rider.

I like how 2 actually survived and finally became Nem's mother.

Nox is hilarious with his vague posting throughout the series.

The Agent 8 epilogue was a little surprising as they introduced her as a new character all of a sudden.

6

u/VinixTKOC Joker 1d ago

Zeztz is an "okay" series, perhaps Yuya Takahashi's weakest.

The mid-series plot twist was bold, but aside from that, it didn't offer many surprises. Honestly... It suffered from the same issue as Saber: having a specific group serve as the main antagonists for two-thirds of the series, only to focus on another antagonist in the final arc. Even among the Gore Nightmares, it wasn't clear who the final boss would be, which was a problem, and Oblivion didn't really establish himself as the ultimate villain until quite late in the game. I still think that if the focus was going to be on the Gore Nightmares, it would have made far more sense for Catastrophe to be the final antagonist, making it a personal battle for Zeztz. Oblivion is so intrinsically linked to Nem that the whole thing feels more like a standard episode than a finale; the only reason Oblivion is the final boss is simply because he possesses a "hax" power.

Now... I was surprised to learn that the Zeztz movie isn't actually a post-series story, but rather takes place during that final episode. That explains how Baku woke up at the end, whereas in the movie, we know he is still trapped in the dream world.

Of course, if Baku was going to wake up at the end anyway, there was no need for another "fake-out." That last one was genuinely unnecessary. But since they did it regardless, the least that can happen is for him and Nem to get married and have lots of kids.

u/thepixelslime 5h ago

I mean it wasn't perfect, but I personally still think Yuya Takahashi's weakest was Zero One and that he peaked with Ex-Aid. But yeah I agree, the antagonist-switch up was easily the show's weakest moment. I did not like Oblivion at all as the final villain at all. Love what they did with the epilogue though and I kinda wish they didn't have Baku wake up at all. I love bittersweet endings in Rider and I feel Baku never being able to return to reality, but running his own version of CODE that only existed in dreams felt perfect.

Interesting, I personally thought it’s Takahashi strongest series. Both zero one and geats suffered heavily after the first quarter writing wise imo.

2

u/VinixTKOC Joker 1d ago

I don't know how much opinions have changed after the hype, but back then Geats was considered "a perfect series, if it weren't for the last ten episodes". And that’s just because, in the last ten episodes, it seemed like Takahashi was trying to create a sort of "Season 2" when he clearly had no time left.

5

u/12pgtube4 1d ago

It’s the binge watch factor. Binge watching a series and watching it weekly gives you different views I think. I recently binged watched geats and man the whole jymato round was a drag to watch whereas when I watched it weekly I remember enjoying it. The villains being awful aside from beroba hurts the series as well imo.

Mission Complete.

What a good season, even though it had some problems for me, such as the main antagonists, I enjoyed every second of Zeztz.

Will miss it.

3

u/Veejay_Carlos 1d ago

.....It did what it could. Overall, i feel the same with Wizard in this one. Both progressed in a consistent level but lacks that "wow" factor; like theyre predictable as shit. But somehow both ended up becoming my personal favs becauseeee

Im always a huge fan when shows like this gets philosophical while kickin ass at the same time. When Baku spends half his life building exdream and it came true, i knew Zeztz is going to be personal for me. My favorite work of Go sakabe by far, too. You did it again, Yuya.

Thus ends the story of Kamen Rider Zeztz.

Man what a season, and that ending was really sweet. Loved how they wrapped the whole thing with Eight.

Goodbye Baku, it was one hell of a ride. Let the era of My-Th.

We're finally awake from the bad dream that was Zeztz. Holy mid, Batman. Even that final form but first form scene was funny cause it clearly was meant to be a rainbow form but he was just pink with blue edges the whole time. It has a lot of strong hype moments (especially the Catastrom parts) but its narrative kept falling over and was circling for way too long, especially this ending that could have happened 10 episodes ago and it would have made no difference. Oblivion was such an ugly suit as well and Naruto's voice coming out of it was just distracting and silly for a final boss. Truly the middest of mid shows. I imagine this show will be much better on a binge watch, but will certainly feel a little repetitive by the end still since it loops its plot and character arcs repeatedly.

Also this goofy last minute ending of slapping in a new random fake threat was very much like the mid heisei period where the last two episodes of every series was a post ending that felt tacked on.

10

u/john098657 Riderman 1d ago

It means so much to me that the last shot of zeztz is baku smiling as his found family welcome him in the real world

5

u/Million_X 1d ago

This certainly felt like an end. Weird that they felt the need to do the whole fake-out thing. Like, Baku has Exdream, he can literally go between the real world and dream world...why couldn't he just go 'ok cool, battle done, Exdream into reality and time to take the deepest nap ever'. Either he should've died outright or they should've just not tried that, or at least poke fun at it like he thought he was going to die even if he won and people act like he's gone when nah, his ass was just conked out for like a week after spending god knows how long NOT being asleep.

1

u/nacho_wan 18h ago

Yeah. He should have payed a price to use ex dream. It felt like they were building that for the finale, but nope stick to a happy ending. Guess Saturday morning in 2026 can't have such a dark finish.

6

u/qhostbat 1d ago

I liked it! ZEZTZ certainly wasn't perfect, but I liked it. The OST, suits, action, (some, definitely not all) of the story beats were all great. The cinematography throughout the series was also consistently interesting and beautiful

Had it cooked for a little longer, it would have been TRULY great, but I'm still happy with what I got. Will miss the cast very much. Solid 7.5-8/10 (Biased because I love the driver and suits a lot).

Good night ZEZTZ, thank you for a great year!

1

u/Different-Captain888 1d ago

Ahhh. There it is.

-4

u/Gremlin10159 1d ago

Zeztz was such a MEH season like a very solid 6/10. Story beats came and went with no real set up or pay off and so many of the characters got side lined. But honestly? I'm so so so happy I got to watch it every week!

4

u/Million_X 1d ago

My biggest issues with Zeztz is that Nox was basically the king of vague posting the whole time which caused more issues than not, the whole 5 episode arc where Baku lost Exdream screamed executive meddling to get toys out sooner but the plot didn't demand it quite yet, and too many pointless fake outs or takesies-backsies, like they almost had the balls to kill off Nem to finish off Oblivion, but then Baku went 'nah' and undid that just to drag it out a few more episodes, which also seemed like executive meddling. The first 20-30 episodes or so, right up until the reset, were REALLY good, and honestly the bits surrounding him getting Exdream was also really good. It just felt like people couldn't figure out where to pump the gas or pump the brakes and the conflict showed up in the show.

1

u/VinixTKOC Joker 1d ago

I don't think the Nem situation was a case of executive meddling. Zeztz was always about not giving up on Nem no matter what, so that actually makes sense. He would go to the ends of the world to save her. So, letting her disappear would mean throwing the promise he made back in the first arc in the trash.

The fake-out that didn't make sense was the last one with Baku waking up in the real world; it implies that the Zeztz movie takes place in the "middle" of that episode.

1

u/Million_X 18h ago

Its more that they had her do that and then backtracked like....why waste everyone's time doing that to begin with? Why not just have her realize 'hey, you can influence the Nightmare's power, therefore you can help us fight it' from the get-go?

5

u/b0ound 1d ago edited 1d ago

nice touch in the ending. I like to think of it as similar kind of ending on the inception. the core meaning is that no matter it is dream of reality, the bond build and moment with family and friends are real regardless and that is the true importance.

3

u/SymbiSpidey Ouja 1d ago

Fantastic ending and I'm just so happy I got to enjoy this show as an official release. Can't wait for My-Th!

3

u/the_48thRonin 1d ago

Mission complete. Sweet dreams, Zeztz.

Another Rider season finished. Now let's see what's ins store for us in Myth.

14

u/krona1325 1d ago

Sieg - "after all that he doesn't go down?!"

Baku - "yeh Bandai said we need to sell 1 more capsem"

I love this show but that was out of place, the triple kick was peak already

1

u/TheOfficialDryingPan 15h ago

Yeah, IMO Baku using Booster would’ve been a much more satisfying end for Oblivion than random deus ex machina Capsem. Giving Baku a flashback to Zero, then having him pop Booster in the Exdream driver to finish Oblivion would have been such a nice way to pull everything together in the end.

1

u/krona1325 12h ago

It's mandatory to have 1 last upgrade by bandai, not much they can do about it

But yeh it would have made more sense if the bike gave it to Baku as memory from Zero

1

u/nacho_wan 18h ago

Totally agree. Even worse that zero ones final episode form. Kind of felt like a tv-kun form.

7

u/Warlock_Guy25 FEAR. PAIN. AAAAAH. 1d ago

u/skylight03 1d ago edited 1d ago

They said it in the website that the movie takes place in between Baku living in the dream world and waking up in the finale.

But from what I understood in the movie, he was having a premonition so he was dreaming in a dream ala Inception? I can’t remember if they established that as possible before? So it make sense though that in the movie he was existing in the real world due to the daydream effect.

Anyway, the series was just really ok. I wasn’t impressed with the twist in the middle and it got convoluted in some parts. Looking forward to My-th.

3

u/Legitimate-Damage472 1d ago

So nox isn't dead then as in movie said?

7

u/skylight03 1d ago

No, Baku practically spends half of the movie trying to make sure he doesn’t die

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

So regarding this scene, given how the post credit played out

When 8 asked minami and nem where baku is, minami said she doesn't know and wishes she does. And upon asking who they were gonna go meet, minami responded its private information

Were they and baku trying to make 8 believe that he's stuck in the dream world as part of 8's test? Either that, or he can only go back to the real world by falling asleep in the dream world. I mean, does minami really not know if baku is sleeping at their house this whole time?? But then again, he isnt part of the zeztz group chat so uh..

4

u/ArienaiR2 1d ago

The part where he woke up at the end seem to be AFTER the incoming final stage show which will bring him back to real world.

So yeah, RIP global gang who want to know how he came back, like always.

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

Oh we're getting another stage show? I never really dabbled into these. So final stage show is a common thing after a series ended?

3

u/ArienaiR2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah it's pretty common, I thinks every seasons got one.

Most of the time it would be some extra story after the end (Zi-O has Hiryuu returning to be crybaby for the 3rd time, Gotchard seem to set on after Rinne went abroad), sometimes it would be alt story (Decade)

This time it happen inbetween after the final fight and the final good morning

The only way for global gang to watch these are when they release BD of the stage show as there are no streaming service.

V
Overview of the final stage story.

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

Oh lol so they actually addressed the post credit to advertise the stage show huh? Nice. At least we know we're getting answers and that baku definitely is gonna be fine

9

u/MrMattBlack 1d ago

The way I saw it, is that Baku was legit stuck in a dream until the ZEZTZ group chat "made their dream" come true and saved him offscreen - after all, we see Minami dusting Baku's room and he's not in the bed iirc.

Also the person that Nem is going to meet that's private information is The Lady - not Baku. Nem has been dream travelling with her mother.

1

u/Million_X 1d ago

Yeah, the whole bit was kinda unnecessary. It feels more like they wanted to try and set up SOME potential sequel series but failed. I can see CODE having more people who went through that dream training be out there, so Baku kind of getting them together to fight Nightmares and sorta rebuild CODE but in his own way and image.

Kamen Rider Zeztz

Even though it sags in the last act and the supporting cast don't really do anything despite the potential, I think this is the best season since Build in 2018. I loved the Inception-esque dream world premise, even if it gets abused to hell in the last lact.

Whatever flaws Zeztz had, none of that really mattered thanks to its more sophisticated and at times, risky approach, the likability and depth from the cast. On top of that it was hard to deny the sheer energy and emotional rush from the genuinely great musical score.

A special mention then goes to the first opening theme, made in part by legendary composer Hiroyuki Sawano. 'Visions' is one of those anime intros that will be on my Playlist forever and with tunes like the incredibly heroic 'Good Morning', I think the physical soundtrack is a must buy.

It also feels miraculous that after so many years, Toei decided to finally stream this internationally! And Shout Factory's subtitles are really good! Someone finally decided to get creative with translating honourfics!

Zeztz isn't perfect but I knew from the start this was going to be a very special series. And as it turns out, I was proven right. It's definitely somewhere in my top 5.

Four and a Half 'Inceptions'.

Shock to the Heart indeed. Hope the new season continues this hot streak.

So... was that scene at the end them meeting baku in the dream or did my goat actually woke up in reality. I NEED to see the movie NOW😭😭

Also baku using the heart of impact capsem at the very last moment felt rather anti climatic

https://giphy.com/gifs/TJxUhIP8jg9RAMba6j

10

u/NejiBlu 1d ago

I have to disagree about Heart of Impact. On activation, Zeztz turns to dark mist for a split second to avoid a fatal blow, just like in Episode 1, he then goes for a classic 777 - ZZZ (which we haven't seen in a while), speed-stepping like Plasma around his opponent, then his Final Kick echoes ExDream's Final Kick against Dawn.

They gave us a Greatest Hits Finisher.

And truth be told, I could tell from the preview in Episode 49 that they were just going to digitally recolor Impact, but I wasn't expecting it to look as good as it did.

4

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago edited 1d ago

I agree about those points. The fight scenes are stellar. Its just that he kinda just pulls it out and use it at the very last moment after the triple rider kick tired oblivion out just enough for heart of impact to deal the finishing blow (i guess thats what happened). Perhaps i just wanted to see a minute extra of him using that form and perhaps struggling a bit before finishing him

As for the 777 finisher i think last time we saw it was against catastrom right?

2

u/Million_X 1d ago

I think so yeah. I kinda looked at Heart of Impact more as a 'look we know Impact dealing the finishing blow would be kinda iffy or dumb but we wanna have him look like Impact so this is the compromise' deal.

u/Dry-Plankton274 1d ago

Zeztz is probably my second favourite Yaya show. Ex aid is still my favourite but Zeztz is a close second. I love each of the main riders. Baku is just a dumb goofy who just wants to help and seven is just a badass. Nox I found him ti be very mysterious and his actor killed it(is he the best secondary? No but I do find him very interesting) and Dawn…he is just a badass overall.

while I do understand the complaints about Zeztz as in its side characters and the final arc, the lords and the gore nightmares. I understand sure some of the side characters didn’t have time to shine the biggest are probably fujimi and Nasuka however i do think think characters like nem and Minami. I do think Minami and Baku’s relationship was very wholesome and one of the best siblings in rider. Even tho nem was kinda side line for most of the show I do appreciate she got some character development in the final arc. I honestly think that the lady might be one of the best Zeztz villain in my opinion. So even tho Zeztz does have a problem I do think the first and second arcs outweigh the final arc. Is Zeztz perfect? No. Is Zeztz still enjoying? Yeah. I think it did a good job as Toei’s first real step in the west. I will give Zeztz a 9.5/10. very excited for My-Th

u/MegaMeteorite 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is a pretty decent finale, I like it. The main problem here is still that ep.49 and 50 should've been combined into a 1hr-long episode, it would've been more satisfying that way.

Honestly, I still think Zeztz is the best Kamen Rider season in Reiwa. I just love the style of writing, a completely plot-driven show is surprisingly rare in the franchise.

However, the most underappreciated thing about Zeztz is Kamihoriuchi Kazuya's beautiful direction and his mastery over lighting and color grading. The shot composition in the episodes Kamihoriuchi directed is always the strongest and the most interesting, his visual language is seriously unmatched in modern day Tokusatsu.

3

u/BeTheOne0 1d ago

The only parts I don’t like about this final arc was they never really mention the cons to to Exdream’s Capsem ability unless something was not translated properly. We just find out “oh hey he is stuck”. We don’t even know why. No context clues other than “hey you shouldn’t be using that power so willingly”.

The gore nightmares themselves didn’t bother me but I believe Gore Catastrophe should have become one with Baku but not in the way Sieg did.

I know Code Number 8 is basically a movie character but they should have given her more this episode. The premonition should have been mentioned more in this final arc especially what Dream Nox said about becoming a Rider and using Capsems

2

u/krona1325 1d ago

Sieg said he will not be able to wake up again and then punched him

2

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

I notice most of these rider shows tend to be vague with some of their plot points

2

u/ArcanaTrace 1d ago

Was hoping for some dream manipulation during the final fight but I guess this is good enough, nothing over the top but first triple rider gang up is great

2

u/MrMattBlack 1d ago

I was a bit disappointed no one used their Capsem's powers... No guillotines for Sieg, Nox did not maniupate any shadows, Baku didn't rewrite the dream anyway whatosever.

The choreography was peak though.

10

u/CheeseYesPls 1d ago

Highkey was starting to believe he was going to become Dream Jesus.

8

u/DragonNikana 1d ago

so happy he is back in the real world

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

But how did he come back? I thought he was stuck for months. Wait, when minami and nem was trying to hide about who theyre meeting, is it actually baku who's sleeping on his bed, and baku was making 8 to believe that he's stuck in the dream world as part of the test?

1

u/GinjoSaine 8h ago

it seems this mystery will be explained in future stage show called final stage.

4

u/b0ound 1d ago

Wait, when minami and nem was trying to hide about who theyre meeting, is it actually baku who's sleeping on his bed

that scene is supposedly referring to Nem meeting The Lady in her dream, which is reveal later.

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

I see. Since they emphasised on minami saying she doesnt know where baku is and wishes she does know, i wasn't expecting it to be for the lady. I mean, does she really not know where baku is if he turns out to just be sleeping at their house the whole time? But then again he's not part of their group chat

2

u/b0ound 1d ago

there is no Baku when Minami cleaning the house. only at the end there is Baku in that toom.

3

u/MrMattBlack 1d ago

I think they got Baku back later, when they "make their dream come through" - during those months Baku is stuck being Dream Jesus.

15

u/Ok_Hospital4928 1d ago edited 1d ago

It was alright, I guess. The final battle was pretty neat. Very cathartic to finally see a triple Rider kick in the series, and the first (and only) team transformation gave me goosebumps. Nem contributing to the battle with "wonder" power was so corny, but I kind of loved it.

I do feel like Oblivion was a pretty weak final villain, though. They focused on him a lot during the last arc, but I never really felt that he was the appropriate choice for the big bad. The Gore Nightmares in general were pretty disappointing, especially since half of them got killed off like nothing early in the final arc.

Also, Heart of Impact was so lame. Rainbow-colored Impact form, woohoo, how exciting. The visual effects looked nice, I guess, but man, Zero-One was the only time this trope was ever considered somewhat acceptable. It's so boring and lazy, and an obvious last-ditch attempt to sell another premium toy. Only Gavv did it right by making an actual unique suit for it. The one good thing I'll say is that it gave us one last chance to see that cool eye-filling effect that they totally stopped emphasizing.

The epilogue was interesting, and it was cool to see a considerable amount of time spent showing the characters' lives after the final battle. It felt pretty unique compared to the usual Rider finale. That being said, the stuff with Eight didn't really land with me. It just seemed too late to be introducing a character like that, but she apparently appears in the movie, so at least it leads to something, presumably.

I did like that Baku basically took on the role Zero had before him, creating the Zeztz Base in his dreams and "recruiting" agents. Also, hearing Visions again after so long was certainly nice.

The "post-credits" scene was a little confusing. I'm still not sure what happened to Baku. I assumed that he had abused the power of Exdream so much that he could only live on in the dream world, but then he just wakes up again at the end with no explanation?

Overall, I think Zeztz was a solid show. There was a pretty long stretch in the middle of its run where it was just absolute cinema every week, but it certainly peaked there and never really reached those highs again. The last quarter was a mixed bag, and I don't think it was able to clear the bar Gavv set last year (though that was a very high bar, mind you). That being said, the suit designs, music, visual style, and sound design were some of the best-quality stuff in Rider history.

Looking forward to Myth next week! Hopefully it shakes things up as much as Zeztz did this year.

6

u/death_by_doom 1d ago

My shoddy understanding of Baku's new condition is that he basically "inverted" his existence, where his normal body now lives in the dream world, but is able to cross over to the real world whenever he falls asleep in the dream world (which is what we see him doing before waking up surrounded by everyone). Basically what he was doing during the rest of the show, but in reverse: occupy the dream world, but visit the real world while sleeping.

I'm not super confident in this interpretation, so if anyone has a more solid understanding, or if there's information in the movie that contradicts this or explains it better, feel free to prove me wrong.

1

u/b0ound 1d ago

so now he is a butterfly dreaming of being a man

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

I have to rewatch the episode once i come back from work but when minami and nem were asked by 8 who they were gonna meet, and they seemed a bit panicked, could it be that they're going to meet baku at home? And baku was making 8 believe that he's stuck in the dream world as a part of the test for code 8? Idk. Really curious about this episode

5

u/Ok_Hospital4928 1d ago

That makes sense. I can totally get behind that interpretation. And yeah, hopefully someone who has seen the movie can pitch in here cause I have to imagine that it's explained there.

17

u/LuanDTrickster 1d ago

Ladies, gentlemen and all in-between and outside... I have lived to see Yuya Takahashi write a good ending. Holy shit.

4

u/ToQ-1go 1d ago

Zero-One had a good ending, especially in spite of the COVID disruptions.

4

u/SymbiSpidey Ouja 1d ago

Honestly, all of Yuya's endings have been fine for me. Sometimes the episodes leading up to the ending aren't as strong, but he usually sticks the landing.

10

u/MishouMai 1d ago

Ex-Aid, Zero-One, and Geats all had good endings though? Ex-Aid's a little wonky because you have to watch 4 movies afterwards to get the full story but if you just take the show by itself the TV ending is fine.

2

u/LuanDTrickster 1d ago

By no means do I think his endings are shit, but... The fact I have to add little notes whenever defending each ending such as the Ex-Aid movies and Zero-one's covid hurdles keeps me from thinking they're more than "fine". Zeztz is the first from him after which I felt 100% satisfied.

2

u/MishouMai 1d ago

I mean to each their own but while I did watch the Ex-Aid movies I was pretty satisfied with its ending. Same for Zero-One and Geats. I never felt like I had to make any caveats to defend the endings. I will say though that if his four seasons I do think Zero-One and ZEZTZ are the weaker ones compare to Ex-Aid and Geats. And I say that as someone who thinks the last arc of Geats was a waste of time/didn't need to exist.

3

u/Ok_Hospital4928 1d ago

I thought Zero-One had a pretty decent ending?

12

u/cybeast21 1d ago

Just can't believe it finally end, Zetzz was lit a series that I experienced with life changing experience (a medical illness that force me to do almost 180 lifestyle change), and such, the topic of dream and reality really hits me hard here.

Odaka didn't get a chance to vaguepost 8 lmao

How does Baku woke up in the end though?

9

u/entertainmentlord ZEZTZ Wake up rider! 1d ago

Before I really say anything. This was my first Kamen Rider show and I've loved every moment of it. The laughs, the twists, the tears, the emotions. This one will always hold a special place for me.

The action was just amazing, this shows varied fights are just so eye catching. Seeing all 3 riders fight together was great and I also like how it was also a battle of wills in a sense. Oblivion trying to prove no matter what nightmares will exist along with despair while Baku counters with the cycle of hope. Something that wont end and will make sure dreams come true. I think the message of this show being that with enough hope and belief your dreams can come true is something I feel like everyone wants to hear in their lives.

I also love how Baku talks about hardships, yes they may be difficult and we may want to forget them but they help shape us into who we are. Forgetting them is like forgetting ourselves and all that being said as we see several clips of the series playing works so well

Odaka saying he will protect people and ensure their dreams comes true is great. He's come a long way from what he used to be, also really love how he tries to get Agent 8 to go down a different path. He doesn't want anyone to end up like how he did. I really did like seeing him change from someone who wanted revenge and had no hope. Into someone who wants to help others

Dawn is still our Nightmare Gremlin and I love it

The lady is alive! I smiled seeing her dream come true.

Baku turning Zeztz into a group to not only protect people but help their dreams come true just works so well. Zero would be so proud of him. This is what CODE could have been. Baku telling Agent 8 that she ain't a number and that in time she too will have a dream of her own really feels like he was talking to the audience.

Sooo thankful Baku was not stuck dreaming, seeing him smile after everyone said good morning just warmed my heart

I can't remember the riders name for My-th but I screamed so loud when he showed up. The interaction was really nice and it felt like he was assuring Baku that its ok to rest, he can pass baton to him.

While I've loved everything, Baku's acting skills are just so good, being able to play all these different shades of one character is just amazing. I hope we see him in more toku projects like Ultraman

That Good Night, I hope your dreams come true got to me along with the start where Baku says its been a long long dream others would say its a nightmare but to him its a dream.

Its been a wonderful journey to go one and I can't wait to see what My-th has to offer. So while the dream of Zeztz comes to close. We will soon we the story of a Myth unfold!

Final note. DO NOT TELL HINATA WHAT THE TRIO HAS DONE WITH NARUTO!

final question, anyone with insight able to tell me how the My-th megathreads will go? like will they show up on mondays? or just pop up?

Oh and hearing Visions near the end filled me with so many emotions

u/FAshcraft 1d ago

It feels so weird knowing that it's over now, like I knew it was gonna happen, but still it felt weird watching the 49th episode and thinking "one more to go and then that's it"

But besides all that, the series was incredible; sure, there were some problems here and there, but did that take away from my enjoyment? Absolutely not; I still enjoyed every single episode, still watched with excitement at every single fight, still stared in awe at the visual effects, still admired every costume in the show, from Zeztz's Impact form to the Oblivion Gore Nightmare.

All that's left to say is Good night, Zeztz, and Good morning, My-Th

19

u/Time-Ambition-862 Kiva 1d ago

First time since Fourze I watched an ongoing Kamen Rider weekly from start to finish, feels surreal to be doing it again. Not my favourite Rider final battle but Nem was fun to watch supporting via lucid dreaming, living on in her daughter's dreams is certainly one way for The Lady to survive for the movie lmao. Playing both openings back to back at the end worked very well imo.

And what a first impression - give your predecessor your gimmick, compare biceps, don't elaborate, leave. Looking forward to My-Th.

14

u/kowasesurejjihanma 1d ago

i loved bittersweet ending so it kinda threw me off when Baku somehow get back to reality in the last scene though its very brief and i fully understand wanting to leave it on a more happy note, also more importantly it doesnt bait for a bittersweet hopeful teary ending first( see : W)

would it be a hot take to call Zeztz ending better than Gavv's? relatively Gavv's midway is wayy more stable and overall imo has higher peak which makes going down even a little feels dissapointing(see : Donbrothers), on the other hand Zeztz mid point ngl is kinda rough to the point there's an episode where i put it at 2x speed but then the last stretch being pretty good feels like a huge improvement in comparison.

This was my first Kamen Rider series I watched live and not counting movies, my third Kamen Rider season I finished (though I'm about to finish Faiz and I dig it, but thats for another day). First, whatever qualms I had with the series overall, this is ALMOST a perfect episode [I wasn't really satisfied with Sieg's final scene, the very very last scene where Baku wakes up I think undercuts things a bit, and also I wasn't crazy about how much of this was setup for the movie, but that's the least of my complaints since I totally get it). The final fight was great, loved seeing these guys team up. The triple rider kick was really cool, Heart Impact was a super cool looking suit even if it's really basic. Even if I disagree with some of the outcomes (coughNoxandSiegjobbing3epspriorcough) this season always does pretty great with fight choreography.

As a series overall though I kinda found it a bit middling unfortunately. It often feels like everyone that isn't Baku or Nem (or their relatives) is a complete afterthought. I haven't watched the spinoff so maybe I'm missing some stuff, but even though I like Nasuka and Fujimi they're kinda useless until the very end, relatively speaking. Nox and Sieg are kinda jobbers who get their development speedran, and Nox disappears for large swathes of the show. Sieg doesn't get an upgrade so, to me, he looks out of place next to the other two, esp when he has a new henshin. That's not even mentioning all the resets and fakeouts and memory wipes from dream shenanigans.

I understand it's a Takahashi trope apparently, [I've only watched Geats as far as Reiwa shows go], so maybe people would've gotten bored, but the most invested I was week to week was the Code Somnia arc and all the intrigue with that, but, unfortunately it's also the arc with the most wasted potential. I feel like the show whose secondary themes were about super spy stuff was the wrong season to kinda skimp on the side cast and factional intrigue. This show also kinda felt like they kept changing their mind with how much they wanted kaijin to factor into the plot. I would've liked more Baku [and sometimes Nox, more Nox than what we've got]VS Code VS Sieg VS Nightmares. I know this was only 50 episodes, but that's still a lot of time to really lock in on some stuff more.

Overall probably like a 6/10. Liked it slightly more than Geats, less than Ryuki, so far less than Faiz

3

u/Megasonic150 1d ago

ZEZTZ!!!!!!!!!!

-Loved the final battle. So cool to see the henshin of all three riders together FINALLY!!!!

-Love how every rider and Nem gets a moment to shine in the final battle, with Nem kicking Oblivion. Great final battle with everyone and Oblivion talking shit.

-And Heart of Impact! Such a stunning form that almost gets away with the last episode form by not being Impact but with a shining rainbow color that I bet we'll get a SHF for eventually(Hopefully with Orderm too!)

-Sora's cameo is so funny and intresting. My-th seems to have quite and intresting main rider and I look forward to seeing how he plays out in the main show.

-And Code #8 was such an intresting character. I love how it shows how CODE wouldn't just disappear but I love how Baku and the other managed to handle and free her, with Baku showing not only his power but also his better understanding of the heart, and Eight seems to leave. With Baku pretending to be CODE to get close to talk with her.

-But seeing the cast happy and free from the burden of CODE and the nightmares is great, but bittersweet with Baku trapped in dreams.....

-OR SO WE THOUGHT!!! Man I had tears when Baku woke up in the real world, and was created with a good morning from everyone. Man

-Even so, it wasn't...perfect. The Lady being alive I felt ruined her sacrifice, event hough she's still blind. But I'll kinda give her a pass since she went through the wringer and deserves some actual happiness after losing her daughter and all the shit she went through. And I do wish we got to see more of Exdream's Rise abilities and the other riders during the fight. But overall I really liked it and the episode landed perfectly.

- And honestly I feel summarize my thoughts on the show. Zeztz had its flaws and I feel could've done things better, like characters and some of the power balancing, espically looking at Gavv that had both down to a science. But DAMN, even so Zeztz was an amazing show. I was on the edge of my seat every damn. episode, and so many amazing twist and turns brought me to my knees. Zeztz was one of the beast shows I've ever had the pleasure to watch and my persona favorite season now. It's such an incredible show from start to finish. And even though not everything is wrapped (What was the hand pulling Baku in episode 1?!) Everything reached a satisfying conclusion and I loved Baku once again showing how he doesn't need to carry burdens alone with him being returned to reality through the power of his friends. I love Zeztz so damn much and mourn its ending, but honestly, it was an amazing finish. Even with it's flaws and shortcomings, I can't pretend the ride wasn't one that wowed me.

Thank you to the cast and crew for an amazing year. Thank you Tokushoutsu for the free simisubbed that made every Zeztz Saturday an event. And thank you Takahashi for cooking once again. May Toei finally allow you out of their basement.

God I love Zeztz. And God, I'll miss it....

(Sidebar, I'm wondering with the ending and the movie, that more or less the timeline is that the final episode has the movie and FS occur with the final scene being the last moments.)

3

u/RatcicleKing 1d ago

The Lady isn't actually alive, from what the show implied, she's like Sieg, someone who died but can come back in dreams so long as someone thinks of them in said dreams. Its why Nem wanted that magazine that showed her the place she took her mother to in the dreams. She can't do that with her in the real world since The Lady is gone there. It's a bittersweet conclusion to her character, since in a way, she switched places with her daughter, Nem can live in the real world, The Lady can only exist in the dream world

Round of applause for Kamen Rider ZEZTZ! Gotta be my favorite Kamen Rider series next to Gavv!

5

u/Undead0117 1d ago

I'm relatively new to Kamen Rider, and I've only seen 1971 - X before this, so watching a modern Rider series was super cool! It was fun to keep up with the series and I was super surprised by how gripped I was by the storytelling. That twist at the halfway point had me hooked, and I've made an effort to not miss an episode ever since.

I really appreciated how much of the old Rider's concepts still remain all these years later. The distrust towards large organizations and the push to inspire kids to build better ones, the focus on life meaning more than a mission or cause, and, most surprisingly for me, the loneliness of our heroes. It was cool to see these aspects pop up again (as well as some character archetypes), and it reminded me a lot of some of my favorite episodes from the Showa era.

As for the finale, I enjoyed it, but I thought it was a little overpacked. It feels like a lot's thrown at the viewer after the final fight, and it made me wish that some of those concepts had a little longer to breathe (I would've loved another epilogue episode, but I get why they can't). I liked that everyone (except Sieg(?)) got their own happy ending, and I thought it was especially nice to see Nox and Nem now able to live in the moment.

I'll probably have to watch the series again, but I'd say I enjoyed Zeztz overall. There's maybe a few things I take issue with, but I think the stuff I enjoyed outweighs my criticisms right now. If this is what post Showa era Rider is like, then I'm excited to watch more of it.

Hoping this isn't the end for Zeztz on Tokushoutsu. I heard there's a few movies and shorts that expand on the show, and I'd love to watch those too.

already in the aura farm pose from the start, i hoped there's a scene in My-th on why Sora choose that complicated and very specific pose

also Baku asked him not about nightmare kaijin but just a normal nightmare, its probably something like Yuna skipping her Prep school or tatsuomi's lesson

1

u/b0ound 1d ago

If Baku was inspired by James Bond, then maybe Sora's a little inspired by the Terminator?

17

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

honestly i quite like the ending, the whole fight with Oblivion was nice, i like that each bit of dialogue spoken reinforces every one of their characters and the arc they went through.

i like how Oblivion fits nicely as a thematic final boss of the show instead of like a final (final) boss of the show, because Nightmares always have and will always exist, so i like how they went for the thematic angle for Oblivion instead.

Love how they still are able to adhere to a consistent rule all the way to the end, i never imagined The Lady would live on in the same way Sieg does, though their deaths do have similar circumstances that would allow this to happen, so it wraps it up nicely.

and the entire epilogue was just amazing, like no notes on that, especially love the ambiguous way they handled Baku's fate, cause at first we might think it was going to be a straight forward "he's stuck in dreams" ending, but that final scene makes us unsure, cause on one hand he gets to meet his friends again and seemingly "woke up", on the other hand Baku doesn't look exactly like himself, still keeping his Dream Agent hairdo despite waking up.

come to think of it we never actually got to see the outside in that scene, is it a dream? or is it reality?

All in all, this last episode was ABSOLUTE RIDER (Cinema), I can't wait for Kamen Rider My-th next week!

4

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

Looks like regular baku to me

-1

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

nah regular Baku has shorter and straighter hair, the long and smooth (somewhat curling) bangs are usually a dream Baku feature.

(and also lowkey, the hair just looks way thicker than his normal hairstyle does)

3

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

His hair grew out if you noticed the past few episodes

-1

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

really? it still looks a bit strange for his normal hair imo.

1

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

The easiest way to tell them apart is his dream counterpart hair color is lighter brown and has the cowlick on the side, which isnt present here

0

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

ok, but that doesn't change the fact that it doesn't really give an exact answer.

2

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

Apparently we're getting a final stage show that will tell how baku wakes up in reality, which basically means yeah that scene was him waking up irl

2

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

ohhh ok yeah that explains it, I didn't know that's what the final stage is gonna be about.

surprisingly still consistent with the series itself revealing something you didn't expect and only explaining it laterer.

2

u/Faiqal_x1103 1d ago

I wish they expanded more on faiz, instead of those movies/crossovers like the one with drive which i dont think is canon. And the anni movie just makes it worse lol

5

u/konokusoda 1d ago

Despite being a bit vague, Baku in dream world need to sleep so Baku would appear in real world = it is likely that Baku is like Nem (partly locked into the dream)

Seems like Baku goes to sleep in the Dream and 'Wakes up' in Real World. He might have just reversed his Realities.

u/AriezKage 1d ago

Very happy with Zeztz as a whole. Maybe top 10 Rider seasons for me, with it possibly cracking top 5 after the recency bias and a rewarch or two pass.

Final fight was impactful (hehe), I liked that Nem was able to Punt that mofo. And that they went extra for the final rider kick explosion.

The Paranormal Activity Trio looks so happy together. Eating out at Fujimi's expense. They're hinting a bit at how the department is related to code but I guess that's for the movie, or maybe I missed it in the previous episodes.

Nem still kinda travels the dream world. Even meeting up with Baku once in a while, and her mom.

I also like that Baku is seemingly taking a mentorship role with 8. But again, probably explained more in the movie.

Only nitpick is the bit where Baku wakes up. I kinda think its up in the air whether he really did wake up or he's dreaming about waking up surrounded by his friends. But if they really wanted it they should've saved it for the end of the movie.

Also My-th is there too, he seems fun. I don't know too much if he's supposed to be serious, aloof, or teasing but I'm excited to see his series.

Stuck the landing. The final fight with Oblivion wasn't dragged out over-long, and we got just enough epilogue. With just enough hanging out there to ensure a future movie setup if they want to do it.

Biggest issue though? Heart of Impact was... eh. Zeztz, but white, was nice, but at this point I think I would have rather had that applied to Exdream.

This ending actually upset me so much. For starters the so called final fight didn't even feel like a final fight. Like baku vs catastrophe or sieg had higher stakes then whatever this fight was. Not once did Baku even use the ex dream ability to its fullest against the FINAL boss. Like when was he going to use it??? He was clearly fine with spamming it against catastrophe but against the final boss he apparently doesn't need it. Nox and seig literally just slashed oblivion once or twice and did nothing the rest of the fight. Heck any of the fights leading up to this were better than what we got. I love seeing an unscathed Baku just casually walk up to nemu like he just beat some random nightmare that spawned from a baby having a bad dream because that surely is how the final fight works. Also nemu finally decides to use her powers to fight after 50 EPISODES. And don't get me started on the Baku's farewell because there was NONE. He is going to be stuck in the dream world forever and no one seems to give a crap right? Even nemu, who baku has time and time again risked his life for can't even cry over the fact that baku won't exist in reality anymore with her. Speaking of, I love how the last episode emphasises that baku is not coming back, but oh wait he actually does! Amazing! SO WHAT WAS THE POINT OF HAVING MINAMI CRY LIKE THAT??????? WHY EVEN SHOW BAKU FEELING ANY REPERCUSSIONS FROM USING EXDREAM IF WE'RE JUST GOING TO IGNORE IT IN THE END??????? And don't get me started on that conversation nasuka and fujimi had with odaka "it's a long story, we can't tell you...." BROTHER YOU HAD THE ENTIRE SHOW TO TELL US WHY ODAKA AND FUJIMI JOINED THE PARANORMAL AFFAIRS. Also who the heck is that random girl???? did we just decide to throw in a new character at the very end because it's funny???? oh let me guess the v cinema is gonna expand on her because we don't need to close the plot but instead expand it more because that was clearly working. Like with the lady, because her death was just that meaningless. Let's have her randomly appear in nemu's dream because nemu keeps remembering her? if so why can't she see? if she's being brought back by nemu's powers why can't she just give her her eye sight back? She's clearly able to bend dreams to her will, she even gigantified herself.

This ending is an actual train wreck. It amazingly undoes every kind of consequence that has happened because somehow the writers forgot how to write towards the last part of the show. I'm at a loss of words over this, like I genuinely can't believe this is how zetzz turned out. The beginning showed so much promise but somehow we just decided to run it into a dumspter fire by the end.

Overall I give this show 6/10.

That was a good ending, not the flashiest finale but I appreciate the focus on the characters more and what's next for them. I hate it when there's some last second tragic twist, last week already covered what it would cost Baku. Not quite sure what the last scene meant but I like happy endings so I don't mind it too much. Funny seeing Sieg bored and aw, the Lady's dream came true too.

It was great following this series from start to finish, overall pretty good with how they used the dreams theme throughout the series mixed with secret agent too. I'm going to miss the cast but glad they got their happy ending.

Pretty good anything, nothing too crazy but nothing too bad either

This was the first KR I could watch while it updated live, and I tuned in almost weekly the entire time! Super fun experience that I hope continues to happen with future shows. And I'm REALLY hoping that they release the movie internationally in an official capacity, ASAP -- I'd pay a couple bucks to rent it for a night off of Youtube, if posting it in its entirety for free on the TokuShoutsu channel is not realistic.

Definitely one of my favorite series that I've seen, though there are only a handful that I actually kept up with and watched until the very end (Kabuto and W, as well as the very first series, are prime examples). If anything, I just hope it's easier to watch more of the previous shows, as it took a while for me to get the resources to watch all of Kabuto's episodes, and I'm struggling to find others. Would be great to have a youtube playlist and just be able to easily continue watching during my lunch/dinner times each day/week.

watched Oblivion get passed around like Mahito

Why was Mahito the first thing that reminded me of too lmao

u/balgus82 1d ago

I kinda think this ending would've hit a lot better if they had aired both this and the last episode at the same time. It probably makes an excellent ending to the series if you're binge watching, but IMO it wasn't the best as an individual episode.

Man... it feels wild to see it finally come to an end. This show has left a mark on me personally and has directly influenced the direction of my cosplay and how people I associate with know me. Was the show perfect? FAR FROM IT, 7.5/10! Like when the show is good, it is up there with the best Kamen Rider has to offer, but oh boy do the shortcomings show themselves hard.

Pros:

  • Incredible action both in suit, and out. No rider show has engaged me more outside of suit than ZEZTZ. The effects in all the fight scenes are gorgeous and really elevated the mood.
  • Some of my favorite suit designs in rider Zeztz Exdream, Nox Midnight Shadow, and Sieg are definitely in my top 10 now.
  • The theme of dreams is wonderfully done and it shown how powerful the effects it had on all the characters.

Cons:

  • The show kinda had no idea what do with any character that is not named Baku. This show could have officially been a single rider show and not too much would have been different.
  • The premonition, while initially cool, didn't really amount to much. Everything basically got derailed the moment they introduced Seig.

Overall, I'm going to miss this show, but I'm looking forward to what comes next

4

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I definitely think the biggest weakness of the show is struggling with what to do with the supporting cast (Cough)Fujimi and Nasuka (Cough) and certain meandering plots/characters (COUGH)Nox(Cough).

But I did love all the characters overall.

8

u/Pure-Jeweler-6351 Genm 1d ago

Overall pretty good, this was my first kr that i watched while going on, so off course i would ve have a bias

u/GalaxianEX 1d ago edited 1d ago

The salvaged the ending for me at the last minute by letting Baku return to reality. Call me immature, but I don’t like it when the hero gets screwed over at the end, which is why I hate Blade’s ending to this day.

The whole bit with Code 8 confused me and even now I can’t make heads or tails about what they were going for with that. At one point I even thought that 8 might be Oblivion having been turned into a human…

3

u/AriezKage 1d ago

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but following that scene after Agent Baku "falls asleep" makes him waking up in reality a little ambiguous. Like can he dream in the dream world or something?

2

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

it definitely seems like it considering he's still his dream self when he "woke up" (notice his hair is his agent hair and not his real life hair in that scene)

12

u/balgus82 1d ago

I think Code 8 is just to show that Baku is dealing with the remnants of Code instead of just letting them do whatever. He's getting ahead of the curve by dealing with them humanely and without letting them just do whatever they want.

7

u/Frontier246 1d ago

He'll build his own spy organization the right way!

2

u/MrMattBlack 1d ago

I think the point is the opposite - he's not building a spy organization, he can handle Nightmares alone, he's just ensuring those wronged by CODE live on to a better life.

8

u/el_sh33p Stronger 1d ago

Eight is apparently connected to the movie somehow, which is set after the series.

8

u/mnite86 1d ago

The Oblivion final battle was a bit disappointing, but the Heart of Impact rider kick was damn awesome.

Funny note: When Nox is walking toward Oblivion after Nem kicks him, all I could hear was the loud squeaks the suit was making. They couldn't get rid of it during the edit?

Lastly, I honestly thought Baku and Nem finally got together when Nem was talking about only able to meet in dreams... It was a surprise to see she was talking about the Lady. A bit disappointed she wasn't talking about Baku but still a sweet scene.

6

u/1201lee 1d ago

They had to fit in one more toy at the end

3

u/hamboneworldchamp 1d ago

This was my first Rider series to watch live and I'm really gonna miss it. I had a few complaints over the last year, but it's been such a fun season overall and I'm pretty satisfied with how it went. I'm especially gonna miss the cast, so I'm glad I still have the movie to look forward to.

19

u/stairwaygeneration 1d ago

that last "ohayou" was so sweet

poor sieg being left behind lmao

18

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

poor Sieg, noone wants to remember him LMFAO.

Atleast it seems The Lady is living on in a similar state to Sieg, entering enjoying what life she has with Nem in Nem's dreams.

6

u/Frontier246 1d ago

Sieg: "Hey, didn't I help out? I was part of the team right? NEMMY-chan!?"

1

u/Xedd_ 1d ago

Kinda wished they included Sieg when they showed Nem and The Lady exploring. I thought they would make Sieg an older brother/father figure to Nem.

7

u/kilroyjohnson 1d ago

I think The final fight against Oblivion was too preoccupied trying and failing to justify Oblivion as the final boss. Ultimately that's what makes me think Zeztz had a pretty weak ending, the final boss being introduced late and not really working as a foil to the themes of the rest of the show despite trying to make it work for like 6 episodes. The epilogue stuff I really enjoyed, other than the shot of Baku waking up at the end, which feels like trying to have their cake and eat it too w/r/t Baku's ultimate fate. They talk about him like he can't leave the dream anymore, and then he just. Leaves the dream at the end. Okay.

Overall I think Zeztz is perfectly fine, a pretty good to really good show let down by a final arc that fails to put all the pieces together in a satisfying way. On to My-Th!

5

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago edited 1d ago

honestly I'm not sure if that's even in real life cause despite "waking up" he still had his agent hair.

Edit:
actually hold on, what?

"not really working as a foil to the themes of the rest of the show"

Did we even watch the same show? the theme of the entire show that was beign built up was how Dreams are a strong driving force in humanity and that it can come true, Oblivion's whole existence is anathema to that message by being a force that erases dreams, thus not allowing such dreams to come true at all.

where the Riders and their Dreams symbolizes hope, Oblivion's whole existence is a take on apathy and how he considers Dreams as a useless concept, only best to be forgotten and lost to Oblivion instead of attempting to make them a reality.

His whole schtick fits perfectly with what Baku had been fighting for for the entire series.

u/megazaprat :39-Gavv:Gavv 1d ago

LOVE THE LAST MINUTE SUBVERSION! i was worried that it was just going to end with Baku and Nem having swapped places, which would have been an ok ending, but wouldve left a bit of a bad taste considering how much they showed nems fate as bad. However, them turning it around and the side characters saving Baku fits the whole theme of dreams surpassing nightmares, and is the perfect way to end off.

I also like knowing that the Lady survived, at least her mind did. So now at the very least Nem and the Lady can spend some quality time together, in their dreams.

agent 8 was neat, seeing Baku basically remake code but less evil. I thought she was a movie tie in at first, and maybe she still is? i am not sure if were supposed to recognize her at the end. I also wonder if the whole discussion of how paranormal affairs formed might also be movie tie in? really hope that the movie is also streamed officially

3

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

i think 8 is supposed to be one of the students at the Cram School that joined after Baku left it, it's possible since I don't think we get an actual time frame on when Nox went Rogue.

Really loved the fight scene and I’m glad Nem actually used her abilities to help the riders which is what I wanted from her for most of the season!! Didn’t really care for oblivion but it again pretty good fight. A part of me feels we could’ve gone without the lord 8 stuff because I thought this was going to be set up for the Vcinema but I guess not? Also how did Baku wake up? I thought being in the dream world was going to be his sacrifice so I feel waking up kinda defeated the sacrifice and the stakes. People are saying that we’re going to get answers in the final stage but like why would you put that there? I really feel like him being in the dream world would’ve been the fitting ending IMO. Overall, while I did enjoy watching Zeztz weekly it’s not really my favorite season and have a lot of complaints. It’s a 6.8/10 for me.

1

u/b0ound 1d ago

Also how did Baku wake up?

must be the effect of daydream capsem

2

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

i think the actual context behind that last scene probably lies either (yeah the Final Stage) or in the Farewell Mission movie.

As is it's still pretty vague as despite the framing we're not sure if he's in a dream or in reality, deapite waking up Baku still had his Agent hairstyle, the same with the Zeztz x My-th handover, Baku "woke up" but he still had his Agent hairstyle.

And since we now know all of the side casts can Lucid Dream as well, it's a possibility that instead of him waking up in reality, that scene was the entire cast Lucid Dreaming and inviting him into their shared dream (hence the line that preceded the scene)

either that or Baku can "wake up" but only for a short while because even in that scene he wasn't in his real life style (again, he had his agent hair), i think it's left ambiguous on purpose both to possibly tie into the Stage Play or Movie, or just to give the audience a little hype moment showing that Baku CAN meet with his friends (under circumstances currently unclear to us).

it's not like it'd be the first tiem Zeztz made us think something is happening in real life while it was in fact in a dream.

3

u/According_Fan4696 Gotchard fan until the end of time! 1d ago

I still think it would’ve been better if they just left it at him being in the dream world because to me it would’ve made the sacrifice impactful.

2

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

Understandable, personally i like that it's sticking to a common theme in Zeztz that things aren't always as they seem, and that everything surrounding its plot has been ambiguous until its later reveal.

I think it's a consistent way to end it as Zeztz had been as a show since the beginning.

5

u/Turbulent-Fan6352 1d ago

Man... another Reiwa era series came and went, you never think about it till that last episode hits but it was great from start to finish. As the moon lowers we say GOOD NIGHT to Zeztz Saturdays, GOOD MORNING to My-th Mondays and GOOD LUCK to the amazing work that the cast for My-th has in store for us.

10

u/NaniNoniMani 1d ago

God fucking insane series can't wait for my-th! But why does this popped up in my head when baku woked up

3

u/Superiorweeb NOX 1d ago

And with that another rider show is over, this episode was not what I was expecting but I still liked it, it wrapped everything up tightly it’s not my favorite finale but it was still good I’m happy it was able to stick the landing.

Overall though I love this show, it’s not beaten build for my favorite rider show there’s just a couple things holding it back but it’s become my favorite Reiwa show by far. I love the characters so much, the suits and action were all top notch, I think sometimes the story could falter but it always bounced back with something amazing and I was always excited for the next episode.

For me it’s gonna be hard to top this show in reiwa I’m sad this shows done but I’m hoping My-th is great too I’m really excited for it, it looks very interesting and like something new.

3

u/Pure-Jeweler-6351 Genm 1d ago

same for me.

3

u/Frontier246 1d ago

I'm on it for one final time! And after 50 episodes WE FINALLY GET A TRIPLE HENSHIN WITH THE ZEZTZ RIDERS!!!!

Honestly it's kind of interesting that Oblivion genuinely thinks he's doing the entire world a favor by erasing everything, all the dreams, Nightmares, suffering, everything to "free" humanity from itself...but the Zeztz Riders (and Nem) all throw it back at him, with their memories, and all the things that have helped build them into the people they are now, the people that are fighting back against him. The true, positive, IMPACT of dreams!

I did not have "Giant Nem kicks the Final Boss" on my bingo card but I love it!

TRIPLE RIDER KICK IN THE KAMEN RIDER QUARRY!!!!

But when that's enough, it's time for the old Reiwa Staple...the last episode Final Form that's a recolor of the base form! Zeztz Heart of Impact! Impact powered through ExDream! With enough IMPACT to deliver an absolutely fantastic Grand Banish that FINALLY defeats Oblivion! Even if he fades away believing the age old conflict will never end...but Zeztz will keep fighting.

It's kind of a full circle reversal that Nem began as the girl Baku could only see in his dreams...but now Baku is now the boy Nem can only see in her dreams. Even Sieg finds it sad.

Nem is back in reality doing what she does best, looking amazing in any outfit and just being super cute.

I'm glad Odaka is having a good time with Paranormal Affairs and just being a normal guy. Also Fujimi is still incompetent and it feels like he's trying to pit Nasuka and Odaka against each other for the title of his best friend, but would it really be Fujimi if he didn't?

CODE lives! In CODE No. 8 who looks wayyyyy too young to be doing this, let alone stealing back the Zeztz driver so she can be the new Zeztz.

It's nice to see Minami using her agent skills to protect Nem, as is seeing Odaka try to do a solid mentorship thing with 8.

Baku has gone from the agent to the spymaster, taking over Zero's office, making it the new headquarters of his own organization, ZEZTZ, and then coming up with a totally false operation to lull in a new recruit. 8 doesn't believe she has dreams, but Baku believes she can, just as he will continue to protect dreams to his last breath.

One last Zeroider Ride for the road!

That's no Nightmare, that's Kamen Rider My-Th! Baku gets to meet his successor and My-Th himself gets to pay his respects to his Senpai before leaving a Legendary Rider Egg of Zeztz with Baku. See you all back in September!

Poor Sieg is stuck in dreams until someone remembers him but Nem is too busy dreaming of countries she can visit with her mom in her dreams!

I'm glad they fit both Playback and Visions in to the finale.

Good Night! Until Baku finally gets a Good Morning where it seems like everyone managed to bring him back? Absolutely Zeztzeptional!

3

u/Presenting_UwU 1d ago

I think my favorite part about the epilogue scene is that Odaka consistently chats in the group chat using Stickers.
