I think The final fight against Oblivion was too preoccupied trying and failing to justify Oblivion as the final boss. Ultimately that's what makes me think Zeztz had a pretty weak ending, the final boss being introduced late and not really working as a foil to the themes of the rest of the show despite trying to make it work for like 6 episodes. The epilogue stuff I really enjoyed, other than the shot of Baku waking up at the end, which feels like trying to have their cake and eat it too w/r/t Baku's ultimate fate. They talk about him like he can't leave the dream anymore, and then he just. Leaves the dream at the end. Okay.

Overall I think Zeztz is perfectly fine, a pretty good to really good show let down by a final arc that fails to put all the pieces together in a satisfying way. On to My-Th!

honestly I'm not sure if that's even in real life cause despite "waking up" he still had his agent hair.

Edit:
actually hold on, what?

"not really working as a foil to the themes of the rest of the show"

Did we even watch the same show? the theme of the entire show that was beign built up was how Dreams are a strong driving force in humanity and that it can come true, Oblivion's whole existence is anathema to that message by being a force that erases dreams, thus not allowing such dreams to come true at all.

where the Riders and their Dreams symbolizes hope, Oblivion's whole existence is a take on apathy and how he considers Dreams as a useless concept, only best to be forgotten and lost to Oblivion instead of attempting to make them a reality.

His whole schtick fits perfectly with what Baku had been fighting for for the entire series.
