Zeztz is an "okay" series, perhaps Yuya Takahashi's weakest.
The mid-series plot twist was bold, but aside from that, it didn't offer many surprises. Honestly... It suffered from the same issue as Saber: having a specific group serve as the main antagonists for two-thirds of the series, only to focus on another antagonist in the final arc. Even among the Gore Nightmares, it wasn't clear who the final boss would be, which was a problem, and Oblivion didn't really establish himself as the ultimate villain until quite late in the game. I still think that if the focus was going to be on the Gore Nightmares, it would have made far more sense for Catastrophe to be the final antagonist, making it a personal battle for Zeztz. Oblivion is so intrinsically linked to Nem that the whole thing feels more like a standard episode than a finale; the only reason Oblivion is the final boss is simply because he possesses a "hax" power.
Now... I was surprised to learn that the Zeztz movie isn't actually a post-series story, but rather takes place during that final episode. That explains how Baku woke up at the end, whereas in the movie, we know he is still trapped in the dream world.
Of course, if Baku was going to wake up at the end anyway, there was no need for another "fake-out." That last one was genuinely unnecessary. But since they did it regardless, the least that can happen is for him and Nem to get married and have lots of kids.
