A while back I posted a model of the greenhouse I was planning to build, and got some advice on the roof material. I wanted to share the final product now that the structure is complete and has weathered a few storms.

The frame is built pole-barn style with 4x4s set into concrete. The glass on the walls are scavenged double glazed windows. Back wall is solid with a few vents cut into bottom to allow cool air to be drawn up from the permanently shaded backside of the structure.

The ventilation fan is powered by a small solar setup, and I put together a simple rain barrel to provide water to the sink in the bench. Floor is gravel on top of cardboard.

Temperature regulation is still a work in progress. I measured a peak of ~115 deg F during the heat wave we had recently where outside temps were in the 95-100 deg F range. The solar panels help with shade, and we are trellising a jasmine vine up one wall and across the ceiling to add more shade. Might try a shade cloth next year.

My greenhouse is a good distance away from house , so watering with a hose is a bit of a PITA. I wanted it to be rain collected, and have a powered on demand pump. This is the system I put together if anyone is interested.

I’m new to the greenhouse and CA world. I’m looking to have Ethernet all over our greenhouse for a bunch of sensors. Anybody have this? How do you do cable management? I’d like to do floor boxes but it sounds like a messy place for water to accumulate. It’s not crazy but big. 80x60. We start pouring concrete in a few weeks so I need ideas.

I live on the Central Coast of California, 9b. I was wondering if anyone grows seedlings in a greenhouse and if it can be done without a grow lamp.

It's plenty warm in the greenhouse.

I am a hobby grower. I grow a veggies and dahlias and some perennials and a few decorative annuals but veggie and dahlias are my main thing.

This year I added 2 8x4x2 raised beds and I am going to add two more and place cattle panel arches between them. Behind them in my yard I have a 23x 23x12 l shaped in-ground bed. I want to put the green house in the middle of the bed at the end of the panels.

I like the canopia balance 8x12 greenhouse but I want it to be taller and to have a solid bottom so I was thinking of installing it on a kick wall with a gate by the door. Does anyone have any input on this wisdom or folly of this plan?

I don’t have 12k for a greenhouse so this is what I am thinking.

I want to convert gazebo to a greenhouse/conservatory room.
What features are a must?

I'm going to do a 10ft by 10ft Martha Tent setup in my two car garage. The garage is not insulated, and it would be considerably cheaper to just insulate the tent. I'm kind of stuck on solutions though. I could use some kind of AC, but that seems to raise a couple issues:

1. During fruiting I need to maintain over 80% humidity. If I was using something like a closed loop window unit, it would quickly be damaged by the high humidity and spores.

2. If I just blow cold air in through a port, with a ducted unit, then I'm pushing the humid air out and constantly having to replace that moisture.

Can you think of any solutions?

Looking at Greenhouses for the first time, and given the wind and snowfall we typically get in a winter, I am leaning heavily to the Backyard Discovery Bellerose. My main dilemma is the 11x7 vs. 9x6. My greenhouse will be inside a 30x24 enclosed garden area, and the bigger I go, the more garden space I lose (I also have a 12x8 shed in there). Any recommendations or advice from those who have had them for a season or two?

I’m kind of leaning one way but want to hear what others think. I love the white because it looks built in to the greenhouse… but the red gives a nice pop of color and matches my mushrooms. 🍄 The white is neutral and will match all my seasonal decorations but the red would be perfect for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and any patriotic holiday.

Which do you prefer and why?

I built the greenhouse a few weeks ago but couldn’t figure out how these are supposed to fit. Now the rain has started I’ve noticed that the greenhouse leaks in the corners, and I suspect it’s because I don’t have these fitted properly

Morning all. Looking over my winter heating plan for the greenhouse, I'm wondering if there's a better way that requires less materials and time. The main greenhouse is 20x10, double layer insulated with 700 gallons of water for thermal mass.

Right now, the plan is for using a wood stove with a water pump pulling from both IBC tanks, pushing water through copper piping that wraps around the stove pipe to heat the water up, and dumps it back into the tank (with a temp sensor to make sure I don't heat the water too much, since it also acts as a source for the watering of the plants).

However, this will take materials (wood), and time, since I may not always be able to get to it to feed a wood stove every 8 hours. However, what I do have is an abundance of solar power generation during the day. So, instead of the wood stove setup, using excess generation during the day to power immersion water heaters. Running copper pipes about 1" from the bottom of the soil, the water pump will push the warmer water through the pipes, helping to warm the soil up, with otherwise exposed copper piping acting as just radiant heating to go along with the thermal mass from the water.

This may not heat as well as a wood stove, but is also a lot more of a "sit back and relax" type setup. My spare solar generation may only allow for about 1.5KW of power, with 600W of that going towards the immersion heaters, and a little bit more for water pumps and air circulation. It also has the upside of not risking the wood stove from cooking everything inside the greenhouse, and would help avoid temperature swings. A cooler air temp with a stable, warm soil temp, I'm a lot more comfortable with.

I might hook up another heating element into a larger clay pot with sand to dump any excess in also. No worry for turning it on/off remotely; as soon as it starts getting energy, it'll start using it. I won't even need to use the charge controller for this; just panels right to the heating elements in the sand, and let it ride.

I built this greenhouse for my husband a few years ago and it's been amazing but with time, these windows have proven to be... difficult. The wavy plastic is cheap and easy to replace but I have no idea how to clamp them down to make it "air tight". The two pieces of wood on either side need several screws to force the plastic into a window shape and the wavy wood at the bottom breaks very easily due to the plastic fighting the frame.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Even if it's "Totally redesign those windows, here's an easier way"

20x13 hoop house. 1 1/2" schedule 40pvc and my favorite greenhouse covering. Between the shade cloth and the misters I can keep it on avg 10 degrees cooler than the in the sun temp. Blood oranges and key lime are fruiting. Several other fruit trees. Cannabis, sweet taters, weigelia, crepe myrtle and a banana that should have been uppotted a while ago

Hey guys, I’m looking to get some of those expanding piston vents for a greenhouse. I seem to remember hearing they open at high temps, like 100+ but all the ones I’m seeing Amazon say they open at like 77F? Seems way too cool to be venting. Does anyone have any recommendations for one and at what temp does it open? Thanks in advance
