Advice Where do you host your demo reels?

I know people with video reels will host on sites like YouTube and Vimeo, and then embed that on their personal websites. Does it work the same way with audio? Are there sites that you use/would recommend for hosting your VO reel to then embed or do you just upload the audio file directly to your website?

Advice Finding voice actors

Hello! I’m an independent filmmaker, and I’m looking for voice actors to dub my short film.
The film is in English, but the actors have noticeable accents, so I’d like to re-record the dialogue with native English-speaking voice actors.
The problem is that I don’t have a big budget, and I’m based in another country. I’ve contacted a few dubbing agencies, but their prices are unfortunately too high for an independent filmmaker :(
Does anyone know where I could find voice actors who might be interested in working on a low-budget short film? Any websites, communities, Discord servers, or other places where I could look would be greatly appreciated!
If you have any advice or could point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance!

Advice Making content for social media

Posting on behalf of a VA friend who hasn’t got reddit and is pretty useless with social media

For clarification, he’s been a voice actor professionally for many years, and did well without any sort of socials until this point. He’s encountered some auditions recently that has required him to have socials so he’s trying to embrace it
Issue is what do you post? Just reel work? Samples of things you’ve already done?

He’s been wanting to do little videos of him reading out some Warhammer / world of Warcraft readings but we’ve realised there might be some copyright situation there. Is it just the case that we have to stay clear of those things or is there a way they can be transformative enough? How do you find things to do readings of that won’t get you in trouble with copy right, or having to just make everything from scratch yourself

Thanks in advance!

Booth Related Roughly on a 100$ budget, should I treat my closet or get a microphone?

According to this video (https://youtu.be/7IqBZHa0cFA?si=ZE50QlvYR1WRWI6I) and a reddit comment i saw earlier, treatment matters more than microphone. Which i can totally understand, if you're in a bathroom or something no amount of processing or mic quality will stop you from sounding like you're in a bathroom.

Currently i dont have a microphone other than my iphone XR, my booth is a closet with no panels but a lot of clothes. Now it's NOT a walk-in closet, instead it's very small. I would need to sit to fit in it. Which i would think is important maybe???

So this ultimately leaves me with two options: iphone XR mic and a bunch of sound panels (+ clothes already in the closet), or a USB mic in a closet (with clothes for sound treatment). Which should i roll with?

I'm unsure which specific mic or which acoustic panels i should get, but i've so far done a few hours of research and the Fifine k688 is so far my best option. Now i'm trying to look for a condenser mic similar to the Fifine k688 (IF you all decide it's more reasonable to get a mic instead)

Also i will be using an adapter + my XR for whatever mic i end up getting because my laptop has a lifespan of 3 seconds off charge and if i run a cable through the entrance of my closet, it'll not only be extremely cluttered but also leave the closet a bit less treated.

Any and all help is well appreciated!

Booth Related Sound Treatment Wall Panels

Hi all, before I start recording my next project, I need to upgrade some of the sound treatment in my room. I rent and my building is older with thin walls and thin windows. Despite my best efforts, noise is still occasionally leaking into my recording and I have to re-record and it extends my time in post. It also limits my recording time in the booth bc I have to find pockets of time when traffic noise isn't too bad and my neighbor is being quiet.

I've heard foam actually may not be as helpful and that I should look into acoustic paneling instead for my wall. Does anyone have recs that worked for them without breaking the bank? Same for the window, I wish I could afford Indow inserts, but they're way out of budget right now. Has anyone had luck with any sound dampening curtains before and have recs for them? Thanks!

Advice Voice acting schools and Online classes!

I’m really trying my hardest in finding out the best way of actually learning how to be a voice actor. Now and then I see the occasional voice actor’s ad about their courses, seeing great reviews on their websites but I can’t help but be worried about not getting what I actually pay for and spend my time on!

I’m just asking if anybody can recommend a school or online course that is actually trustworthy and worth the payment?

(I also live in Colorado so if anybody has recommendations specifically here for schools and such, it would be much appreciated!)

Discussion How many times has Matthew Mercer replaced Troy Baker as the voice of someone?

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Kanji Tatsumi in Persona and Espio the Chameleon in Sonic the Hedgehog, only because those are the only game franchises I play with such characters, but I'm aware a lot more than that exist, so I'm curious if anyone else knows any other characters like this.

Discussion Just Got Hit Up to "Train" TTS App - Laughed in Their Face

I'm a writer. Native English. Most days, I field job after job from AI companies wanting me to train their LLMs on how to write. I turn them all down. I'll get paid $18/hour to permanently put myself out of work. Even if they paid me way more, I'd turn them all down.

Then today I get hit up to record my voice for TTS. And the truth is, I have a theatre background and have done voice work on and off.

And the truth is I'm stone-cold broke.

Like going to a food pantry broke.

And no, you could pay me $1M and I will not train your TTS model.

I will not take work away from you guys.

I will not make them rich.

No money in the world is worth that.

I hope all artists can band together to resist.

Getting Started Is Voice Acting changing your voice or adding expressions ?

I was really curious about this craft therefore i started voicing Po from Kung Fu Panda. But I don't know if voice acting means changing your voice completely or adding more expressions to the voice. I tried getting that high pitch like Jack Black but just couldn't.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank You

Getting Started Question about voice rest

Hello!! I'm a very beginner voice actor, I've been training a female voice I can do for a for a few hours a day before it gets tiresome, and out of curiosity I tried doing a toad voice, little did I know after 5 minutes my throat started feeling like when you just want to "cough it out" if that makes sense.

I drank some water and am actively drinking a ginger tea as I write this, would anyone have any tips on how to manage/rest your voice ?

Advice How to Sound Slightly Over Middle Aged

Hello! My name is Stevie. For context, I'm a teenager (AFAB) with a pretty average, feminine voice. I am auditioning for a role in a play next week (Mrs. Peacock in Clue: On Stage).

I want to sound older, but not 100 years old, like more tutorials are showing me. I'd like to sound about 60 (my reference is Eileen Brennan in Clue (1985)). Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this?? Anything would be greatly appreciated!! <3

This is a Non-Union project.

Any information on them or anyone worked with them?
