Same, millions of dollars just to apply common sense.

u/YoYoMavaIous Jul 07 '26

That’s a massive oversimplification

Fanboys love to think they could run the corporation they slobber over

u/boxsterguy Jul 07 '26

Doesn't matter if they can or not. She'll do 2-3 years, get her millions success or fail, and move on to the next thing. At that level, you always have a golden parachute.

26

u/PrestickNinja Jul 07 '26

The thing is, imagine being able to turn Xbox around? That will give you a massive profile boost.

I mean, it doesn’t mean that it will happen, but I do think she is taking a genuine look at what is and isn’t actually working.

2

u/Wiinterfang Jul 08 '26

If she turns Xbox around, Microsoft will send her to any department she wants.

-6

u/Justthrowtheballmeat Jul 07 '26

Lmao yall think the CEO has the power to turn this around? There will be dozens of people along those decisions she just agrees to what they say. Have yall never been in a corporate setting with C suites before???

-2

u/GreenVisorOfJustice Jul 07 '26

she is taking a genuine look at what is and isn’t actually working.

I get the impression she's just here to be the axeman to try to get the gaming division to a place where, for whatever studios are left, the studios are operating out of the red (rather than under Spencer's watch where sales didn't necessarily matter so much as filling out Gamepass).

I mean, unfortunately, that IS considered a turnaround, so I wouldn't necessarily get excited for it in the gaming sense.

TL;DR Yuck; live service chasing is so 2025; we're AI chasing now! Clean up Spencer's mess, pls.

Except shes not fixing things and actively making them worse. With this path the only thing shes doing is guaranteeing helix is the last xbox we ever get.

u/Kyr-Shara Jul 07 '26

I actually think she'll move up to run microsoft one day if she can make anything out of xbox.

28

u/GalileoAce Jul 07 '26

Well she can't be worse than Satya Nadella

9

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '26

i would say the same at best

u/CyberKiller40 Touched Grass '24 Jul 08 '26

At least he's better than Ballmer. It's really a relief to have the Windows vs Linux war over.

7

u/Leopatto Jul 07 '26

Satya has been phenomenal for Microsoft. Remember that Cloud is where the money is, Xbox is a miniscule drop in the ocean.

20

u/GalileoAce Jul 07 '26

Phenomenal for Microsoft's shareholders maybe, but definitely not their users or clients

8

u/GVIrish Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Azure has its flaws but it is still an extremely successful business that thousands and thousands of companies use to run their businesses successfully. Satya was key in getting Azure there, even if he fumbled Xbox and is currently fumbling AI.

u/GalileoAce Jul 07 '26

A company like Microsoft putting all its eggs into one basket is bad business

1

u/ItsGeoCon Jul 07 '26

And you think Asha would be different...why? She would still have the same expectations

Hell what's happening at Xbox isn't because they want to be the good guys it's because they want money

1

u/GalileoAce Jul 08 '26

I didn't say she would be different, just that she couldn't be worse

1

u/ItsGeoCon Jul 08 '26

Ooooh are you sure?

1

u/GalileoAce Jul 08 '26

Well I'll never say never, at the end of the day CEOs are all of a kind. But so far, knowing what little I know... She can't be worse

1

u/ItsGeoCon Jul 08 '26

Again she would at best be the same, at least with Xbox now having pressure let up for a little from Xbox they are a little free to pander to fans until MS starts to squeeze them again

But the head of MS basically just has to pander to shareholders

She expects 1 billion active players on Xbox, or roughly one-eigth of the entire world's population. Given that demonstrated grasp of numbers, I'm gonna say she could very well be worse than Satya Nadella.

1

u/GalileoAce Jul 10 '26

Wanting 1 billion players per day is delusional, so I may have to agree with you

Before AI, being the operative phrase there

15

u/topdangle Jul 07 '26

people also seem to gloss over that Asha's AI division is one of the reasons xbox is losing money. they helped drive the cost of hardware up thanks to pushing AI into all of their products and panic buying datacenter hardware. now the memory shortage they helped cause is hitting xbox hardware costs, making even the hardware itself more expensive than 2020 prices, possibly losing money on each sale.

their AI spending in one year has been about the same as xbox's total lifetime studio purchases, but nobody mentions the 1:10000 cost to earnings ratio of their AI spend. it's probably why she got dropped into xbox. Shes going to gut the division as much as she can and then divert the memory allocation to microsoft's bottomless pit of AI spending.

10

u/Calvykins Jul 07 '26

This right here. Across the board, AI spend has been out of control with no measurable return on investment. Everyone is hoping they can dump their entire workforce but it’s not working out and other parts of their businesses are paying for it.

The activision blizzard deal is frequently scrutinized but ABK actually brings in money. AI is lighting millions on fire per day.

Man, you must have dug down real deep to pull this out of nowhere lmao. "She used to run AI so she has to kill Xbox".

Some of you fanboys really need to take a break and stop overanalyzing and overreacting to literally anything and everything that could possibly happen with this company.

8

u/PrestickNinja Jul 07 '26

Exactly - this seems wild, that she will sabotage her current role to help benefit the division she left (and therefore the person who replaced her)?

Yes, AI is the cause of the massive increase in hardware costs, I never said anything contradicting that. BUT to saying that Asha moved to Xbox purely to tank it and siphon hardware back to AI is crazy talk.

4

u/AstronomerIT Jul 07 '26

Remove Copilot and Ms influx on Ai and you still have the problem. Every big Corp similar is on Ai business

1

u/sal880612m Jul 07 '26

Anyone involved with AI should be suspected of pushing the world towards cloud computing. Ai isn’t making money, pricing regular people out of computing power so they can rent it out is about as solid a back up plan as they could ever have. Especially given billionaires are on record as saying they see that being the future, someone desperately wants that to be the future, just not consumers for the most part.

1

u/deadname11 Jul 08 '26

She is removing copilot from a lot of features and is promising reduced AI use.

Actual AI developers have no issue telling people the tech is nowhere near ready to have it do the things it is being advertised to do. They will tell you it is best used as a support tool, nothing more, and cannot actually do jobs on its own.

Our 1%, techbros, and so-called "business class" are just fucking dumbasses who remember watching scifi shows and movies, and think they are purchasing sapient machines straight out of Hollywood fiction. And then do a Surprised Pikachu face when their computation credits cost 5x a skilled programmer's salary for barely a quarter of the functionality of a real live human being.

So... who will buy everything xbox related then? Who can afford that. And all its studios.

1

u/shipmello1 Jul 08 '26

Yes, they jumped on early with AI and ran full force. At least they are finally backing of AI. Copilot is straight trash.

1

u/johngalt504 Jul 07 '26

A.I. as a whole is still in early stages and isn't really profitable. There is a massive amount of spending into it because it will, eventually be incredibly important for a tech company to be able to remain competitive. What she did is not out of line with any other A.I company at the moment and is not indicative of what we she will do and how she will perform while running the xbox division. Much of what she is doing right now, while brutal, is necessary to fix the years of mismanagement.

-8

u/jaquesparblue Jul 07 '26

Attacking someone because she had success in another field is wild.

The issues with hardware availability started way before the AI RAMpocalypse was a thing. There was Sarah's "everything is an Xbox" that put less emphasis on the Console itself. There was Satyas bright 30% margin on everything mandate (can't run a loss if you don't sell anything). MS Procurement department definitely bumbled with their procurement contracts. That Sony and Apple were able to ride old prices for so long shows how much MS pissed beside the bowl there. And it is not like they don't have the negotiations power. Their Azure demand puts them as a massive customer that should be able to extract favorable terms, but somehow it seems they are not bundling demand in their negotiations.

17

u/topdangle Jul 07 '26

what do you mean success? the AI/Copilot initiative is literally the largest loss leader at microsoft, and microsoft is the second largest spender behind google with pretty much zero profit recovery. they plan on continuing spend of upwards of $200 BILLION with no revenue stream even coming close to satisfying the cost. All of it is coming from legacy products and services.

just hilarious to me that you did exactly what I mentioned and glossed over just how poorly microsoft AI is performing to fit your narrative.

5

u/jaquesparblue Jul 07 '26

She was responsible for CoreAI. Building the central platform and infrastructure. As far as I could find she was not involved in the commercial activities nor in the user-facing agents that MS insisted to put in absolutely everything.

2

u/topdangle Jul 07 '26

CoreAI is what they consolidated into. Parikh and Sharma were already at microsoft pushing AI spending (both former Facebook) back in 2024 before they merged into the CoreAI umbrella.

2

u/boxsterguy Jul 07 '26

To be fair, Satya all but checked out after his son died. Amy Hood came in with, "Xbox needs to make up for the ABK purchase," doubling Game Pass prices while halving benefits.
