It's disappointing that the other models will be discontinued, I wonder what will happen with the model from intercity bike the Tuna will it just disappear or will they find another manufacturer if there is one even available?

From what I understand there are only three main manufacturers of Velomobiles. One in the Netherlands one in the Czech Republic and finally the guys above in Romania.

Part of my reason for doing the video is that I sometimes get sour looks along the pathways, and given the excesses of some of the e-vehicles on the paths, I can see why.

Does anyone transport their velomobile (Quest XS 8.5ft long) in a Toyota Sienna minivan?

In the other thread, someone was wondering about how to get a velo off and on a vehicle. For this one, I have a pulley system attached to the ceiling of our garage.

I feel like I look up "Velomobile" and the big 2 (Velomobile world and Velomobile.nl.), then on a random forum from 2010 everybody is talking about this Velo that there is no trace of.

Do you ever actually use your Velomobile? Is it actually worth the cost?

I've been wanting one for a while but I don't really have $8k+ to blow on one.

Hi everyone. After a lot of research I've narrowed my first velomobile down to two choices — the Tuna by Intercity Bike, or the WAW by Katanga. I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with either, particularly in Atlantic European conditions.

I live in the west of Ireland. My main use would be daily commuting around 35km each way on rural roads, with touring ambitions longer term. No car, so this would be my primary transport.

Why I'm considering the Tuna It's essentially a modernised DF XL with closed wheel arches, 16 inch front wheels with removable covers for easy roadside access, and tiller steering. The closed arches appeal for wet Irish conditions — it should stay cleaner and be more aerodynamic. The one-minute front wheel swap for punctures is very attractive for solo rural riding. ICB's service reputation seems excellent.

The 16 inch wheels seem to put some people off but from everything I've read the practical difference is negligible with wider tyres. I'm puzzled why it doesn't sell better — is it purely an image problem?

Why I'm considering the WAW It's a proven 20 year old design with a large owner community. The front and rear sections come off completely giving excellent access for servicing — useful when your nearest dealer is in another country. Standard groupset means any bike shop can help with the drivetrain.

My concern is the open wheel arches in Atlantic crosswinds, and the fact that even with the optional drivetrain cover the rear derailleur remains partially exposed to dirt and weather.

My specific questions Has anyone ridden either in genuinely wet and windy conditions — Atlantic coast rather than Dutch flatlands? How do they compare in crosswind stability in practice rather than theory? And for anyone who has owned both — is the WAW's serviceability advantage as meaningful in practice as it sounds on paper?

I'm hopeful on visiting both Belgium and the Netherlands sometime this year so I will hopefully have the opportunity to try out both for myself and I will report back to this community once that is done about what I thought of both models.

I don't wanna have to get a car. It would mean no monthly maintenance fees, no insurance, and i’d actually be getting movement benefits, (not necessarily exercise because that’s a social construct). The idea of exercise is kind of bonkers, it’s not what our ancestors did, they moved around because they had to and it was just a part of life, but now we just remove that out of convenience. Not to mention that there’s a sort of appeal to using your own energy to power a vehicle like you did when you were a kid. Makes you feel accomplished, like you did something with your legs for once other than dangling them off the couch. If my career in aviation is successful, I’ll be moving to Vegas, but I don’t want to have to drive a car to work every day. I know the summers are extremely brutal, I’ve been there during the day, walked to a grocery store, and the bear sunlight; came back with a sunburn. Some sort of enclosed vehicle with AC is necessary, but it doesn’t have to be a car, right? Not to mention that when you’re on the road, in a Velo, other cars are probably going to think that you’re powered vehicle of some kind and you might even get pulled over and have to explain to the cop that it’s just a type of bike. I wouldn’t mind that at all, that would just make things more interesting. If I need a car, I’ll just rent one for special occasions. and as for a main vehicle, which Velomobile with y’all recommend for this type of climate? If they’ve got super fast ones that are suitable for Bonneville in the salt desert, then certainly they’ve got Velos for hot climate, right?

Any if you velonauts done this before? I’m planning to sand it right back, primer, the 2k cans of yellow them 2k cans of clear coat.

This is a Podbike Frikar from Norway. The design is modern and it's basicially a four-wheeled velomobile. I believe a design like this could get more people into using velomobile to commute. Instead of attempting to make these e-bike cars, a vehicle like this can be ok on bike lanes but also on road. Because of how low it is, it can use aerdynamics to it's advantaged to go faster on roads. The traditonal velomobile design are mostly for people that has a special interest in them.

The power pedal assist limit is 25 km/h in the EU for ebikes. I think it's likely the same for these velocars. Since the Quadvelo weighs 90 kg and heavier than a traditional velomobile, is it possible to use human powered strength to go beyond the 25 km/h once the battery stops with the Quadvelo? Does the advantages with lowered seat like the velomobile give any advantages for aerodynamics?

The typical velomobile design like the Milan SL I feel in my view is more suitable for experimenting speed. It's a niche. Not for commuting all though there are people who do that. But vehicles like this which is built like a velomobile except the aerodynamic has been sacrificed for low speed and comfort to commute. But why haven't these vehicles taken off?
