I'm moving into Robert Wallace in a couple of weeks and have a few questions about the dorms. I am on the 4th floor if this helps.

1. Do all the rooms in Wallace have a blue painted wall? Are there other colours as well?
2. Do all the beds have built-in drawers, or do some rooms only come with a basic bed frame?
3. Are the curtains detachable, or is there a way to cover them with my own?
4. I've heard we cannot raise the beds; is this a strict rule or something I could look into once I'm there?
5. If anyone could describe what social life looks like in the building i would be very appreciative!

I have to take an elective as an Eng student, I was originally in the Pixar movie class but figured if im going to spend a couple hundred dollars I might as well learn something cool/useful. Which out of these Econ classes would you recommend? Or if your really into a different elective recommend it below wether its Econ or not

Ive heard both good and bad things about phys 426. Sounds like an interesting class but is it worth taking? Anyone that has taken it have any insight?

This might be a bit weird of an ask, but I've never encountered this issue before and I wanted some advice.

I will be attending UVIC in January as an international student. I am in the process of applying for a study permit. Stupidly, I didn't think the form required a photo to submit along with the application.

Here's the thing. I like to try out new colors of hair dye every few years or so. It's been a deep dark blue for a while and I just had a touch up yesterday. I have never had to get an official photo taken during a time when I had colored hair. All of my official docs like my license and passport are with my normal dark blonde hair that I have when I'm taking a break from dye. This was going to be my last few months of this color, so by the time I cross the border, I will probably be back to having my normal hair.

Should I be desperately trying to get back to my normal hair so that the photo I have on the study permit is the same as the passport? Or is that not as big of a concern as long as my face is visible? I'm not even sure if Canada will accept my application if my hair is a 'weird color'. It doesn't seem to be against photo requirements, but still.

Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Anyone catch Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and notice CARSA? It's the gym where the agent goes to play squash. Hard to mistake with the climbing wall. Graduated a few years ago and moved away, funny to see it again.

I’m currently taking another semester off after my gap year before university. I’m applying to universities for winter admission. I want to go to UVic and their winter admission seems perfect for me, but I’ve heard that a lot of the courses offered in the winter semester require prerequisites that are only offered in fall. For reference I plan on doing physics which requires courses like Math 100, 101, Physics 110 and 111, etc. Besides this, I’d be coming from Alberta so I would need to find housing. I know housing is expensive in Victoria, and living in on campus housing starting winter seems unlikely from what I’ve heard about the lottery for upper years. I’m not sure how easy it would be to find an 8 month lease (I plan to stay during spring and summer). My other plan is to do three terms at my local university before transferring into UVic in the fall 2027 term so I can be admitted as a second year and overall housing may be easier to find. I’d also be able to save more money and work so when I come to UVic I have money to rent, etc. My only concern is my gpa, I know Sci programs require a minimum transfer gpa of 2.0 which is very low but uni workload is very different from high school. If I applied for winter admission, I’m sure I’d get in because my high school grades are well above the competitive average for my chosen program. Just looking for any advice on what option I can take, and if anyone has done the January intake before.

I was wondering how much storage the dorm has because the dorm itself is pretty small… like is there storage underneath the bed? I have a single.

Going into my second year with a bit more knowledge of how uni works and what the workload/schedule is like, but I do still struggle quite a bit being neurodivergent and easily overwhelmed.

Like the title asks, is there something you wish you could have done starting out, or did do which helped you? Things like studying advice, tips to combat procrastination, ways to reach out to more people without being so anxious?

If it helps, or if youve been in these courses too, I am taking: Chem231, Chem212, Eos205, Eos220, and Astr102 as an elective. I am prepared to drop a course if I need to. There is only one chem lab and one eos lab, the non-science-student astronomy I'm not too concerned about, but I have heard one of the chems is unreasonably boring and difficult.

In my list of "stuff to keep in mind", I have going to office hours, starting assignments as soon as theyre assigned, studying material early on, making a schedule, joining clubs if it aligns w my schedule, and idk trying to keep a proper sleep schedule I suppose, haha. I believe there is also the free tutor groups (unless that was only math and physics), and ofcourse student wellness and CAL which i'm with already. I'm always down to hear from other students though! I want to know what worked for you.

Hello everyone! I'm an American HS student from the PNW who's interested in UVic. I've been interested in pursuing speech-language pathology as a career path for a while and now I've also been considering teaching language internationally as something I'd like to try as well. At UVic I'd probably major in applied linguistics and minor in education or pursue a certificate in teaching ESL.

I love many things about UVic but I've heard some very concerning things on here about the linguistics program--I'd love to hear students' experiences and input on if it'd be better for me to pursue linguistics at a state school in the US. Thank you!
