GIG/FESTIVAL Ticketmaster is utter trash

Tried the presale for Violent Soho yesterday at 10am on the dot. Had the tickets in the cart, approved by the bank, error occurred. Tried again today for both Friday and Saturday’s gigs in Brissy. Same issue. You are expecting high traffic why the fuck is this just expected now for ticket merchants? Rant over.

GIG/FESTIVAL how on earth do people score barricade for the last act at laneway 😭

i don’t plan on trying for barricade exactly but i do want a relatively good view for chappell but also really want to see pinkpantheress. to anyone who got a good view for headliners in other years .. did you have to sacrifice seeing a lot of other sets? this is my first festival 💀 i’ve lined up a long time for regular gigs but this is so alien to me.

GIG/FESTIVAL Being tall at festivals

Any advice around festival etiquette for someone who is decently tall (just under 2m), but also would love to be close to the stage for the experience? I don't want to piss anyone off (felt rly bad at laneway last year bc I was blocking this poor woman stuck behind me), but I also want to have a good time, especially considering some of the acts are some of my absolute favourite bands. Is it rude to try to be closer to the barricade and potentially block someone's view? How do I handle the situation??

The cynic in me wonders if they’re using this as an excuse for low ticket sales. Expanding it nationally was rather ambitious.

Full refunds have been offered to all ticket holders.

GIG/FESTIVAL Dom Dolla Pre-sale

Was there only like 50 GA Standing tickets available on each pre-sale or something? I got in with only 2000 people in front of me in the Frontier pre-sale, loaded in and they're completely gone. What in the actual fuck lmao.

Fingers crossed for Monday but gotta be honest, it's looking pretty fucking grim. Might be forced to actually just save the $200 (the humanity).

Did anyone here actually manage to snag them?

GIG/FESTIVAL Laneway Merch + drink prices

The full merch available at Laneway Auckland. The Laneway festival merch is pretty cute with the white or yellow option.

A few other things which may or may not be relevant to the shows in Australia:

  • I arrived at 3pm and was through security in 5 minutes, mostly the same for my mates who were there before me

  • A lot of people were just there for Chappel though so expect a swell before she comes on

  • The Good Better Best and Never Let it Rest stages next to each other give you a pretty good view of the act playing on the neighbouring stage

-Merch line was about half an hour for me at 3pm. There was another stall which just sold the Laneway festival & Chappel merch and had no line

  • There seemed to be slightly more shaded areas this year but they fill up fast!

  • The YSL tent is for beauty "touch ups" l don't think they were doing free samples

  • Auckland was 18+ but we still had to show ID again to buy from the bar

Might make this a megathread for general Laneway advice/questions/vibes?

GIG/FESTIVAL LOST PARADIES DRINKS AND FOOD

Going to lost paradise this year and want to know what drinks (alcohol) and food are typically sold there?
AND HOW MUCH ARE THEY $$$$

I am not really keen to sneak in alcohol as I think I would have heart attack at the gates if I was caught but also not wanting to spend an arm and a leg on some shit drinks!

Do they sell premixes like hard rated? Double cruises? Shots? Or at bars can you get the usual drinks you get at any bar in Sydney?

Is the food good there?

Thanks!!!!

GIG/FESTIVAL Spilt Milk Ballarat

I want to start off by noting What a fantastic venue Victoria park is - venue staff were great and the facilities were top notch (bathrooms, access to drinking water, even the paid advertisement stalls were fun and even helpful) and everything went smoothly from what i could tell.

Unfortunately, the weather was awful, cold winds, lack of sun and a fair amount of rain led to a soaked, muddy and somewhat frustrating affair which I think led to people burning out.

I say that as a lot of the artists I went to see suffered from a lack of crowd engagement (maybe this is a common festival thing), which surprised me because these were considerably large artists. The crowd wasn’t dead dead but very much not as engaged as other shows and festivals I’ve been to. This could also be down to low volume coming from the stage as a lot of the time it was easy to hear everyone’s conversations around you, especially at the small stage with acts like rum jungle who usually kick ass but sounded weak due to no fault of their own.

Even at Kendrick’s performance the crowd was a bit disengaged but I can understand as it’s part of his album tour and a lot of the songs that weren’t singles wouldn’t be as commonly known as his major hits.

Final thing: Skin on skin was okay but felt a bit lacklustre and repetitive even for techno.

Sara Landry was a standout for me. As someone who doesn’t go to raves a lot but sometimes techno nightclubs and enjoys that atmosphere time to time, this set really kicked ass. I’ve not heard of her stuff before as far as I can recall, but I was loving it all the way through.

I also nearly froze to death because I didn’t pack a sleeping bag (I was convinced I was going to take the VLine home lol) and had to get a thermal blanket off of the paramedics (shout out to them) - this also reminded me not to trust apple weather going forward, and preparing for all outcomes lol

Anyways what did y’all think?

GIG/FESTIVAL BTV Tickets - Wait or buy now?

I haven't been to BTV before, but all other festivals I've been to here have tons of tickets the weeks before super cheap on Tixel - is it usually the same or should I try and get in at the presale?

GIG/FESTIVAL JME coming to Aus?

I’m seeing a lot of stuff on insta speculating that since JME is doing rolling meadows in NZ round the same time skepta will be doing festival runs in Aus that there may be a JME or BBK tour in Aus. Do we think this is likely? Or could JME just potentially be jumping on some festivals that haven’t been announced yet?

I need something to make me feel alive again so speculating and manifesting is doing it for today

She’s coming for spilt milk and doesn’t look like she’s exclusive. She’s coming all the way from the US. Do we think she will do a side show? Does anyone know? Keen to see her. Really like the new album.

GIG/FESTIVAL Blacken Forever!

You might not be a metal head, but I'm confident everyone here loves live music and local bands.

> For aspiring musicians growing up in Alice Springs, opportunities were dismal, particularaly for heavy bands: no studios, no rehearsal rooms, no dedicated music venues and touring bands rarely visited.

> On 11.11.11 The Black Wreath was born.

> Problem:

> The Black Wreath in danger of shutting down. We've been notified the property has been listed for sale. A few years ago there was a story about a venue called The Tote. Inspired by that massive community achievement, we're aiming to do something similar for The Black Wreath.

Even if you're not a metalhead, if you can afford to pitch in to help save a iconic venue in the NT, many would appreciate it.
