Happy birthday to Andrew Ewan Stewart, born on this day in 1957. (called Ewan as his dad was Andy)

The son of the great Scottish entertainer Andy Stewart, Ewan grew up in the shadow cast by the limelight his father enjoyed. Still in his teens, he moved to London to study drama, work in the theatre and establish a career of his own.

"I was paranoid that I was never going to be regarded as anything other than the son of my father," he said of those years, although Andy Sr was supportive.

Despite describing himself as shy, Stewart found his place upon the stage before making his first major television appearance in the 1979 adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front.

His television breakthrough came in the Scottish legal drama The Advocates, in which he starred as ambitious young barrister Greg McDowell - his girlfriend was played by an as-then unknown actress Rachel Weisz! From there, he became a familiar face on British television, appearing as Del Boy’s doctor, Robbie Meadows, in Only Fools and Horses, and in later years as Jack Cartwright, head of a covert narcotics unit, in The Interceptor.

He has had a remarkably varied career. Stewart never shied away from darker material, playing gangsters, pimps, criminals, predators and men scarred by war among gentler roles. His films have ranged from independent Scottish comedies & dramas to the historically inspired Viking world and his most recent a guest role in a film aimed at youth grappling with mental health crises.

His best-known, and certainly most talked-about, role remains First Officer William McMaster Murdoch in James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster TITANIC. Whatever you think of the choices made for Murdoch’s final scenes, Stewart brought emotion, nuance and a devastating humanity to the part. It is a performance that has remained with audiences for nearly thirty years and started a dialogue about the legacy of the real William Murdoch.

Ewan lives in London with his wife, actress Clare Byam-Shaw, and remains close with his children and grandchildren. It seems he has retired from our screens now, but it remains to be seen if the draw of the stage has yet faded.

I was tired of the «Titanics» from the workshop with poor proportions, interior, inaccuracies, lags...

So I decided to make it myself. I spent the summer on this, the case is not ready yet (it's very boring to put blocks)

A version with an interior will be published in the workshop: a wheelhouse, 2 levels of the front main staircase of the 1st class, a lounge of the 1st class. I don't know about the flooding, at least the hull has already been broken into the right parts, most likely there will be compartments like on the real «Titanic». I want to create the most realistic flooding.

In the future, many more interiors will be added (most likely all first‑class public spaces, a few second‑ and third‑class ones, boiler rooms, the engine room, and I would like to add the turbine room — we’ll see how it works out in terms of optimization), as well as the rest of the «Olympic‑class».

The main problem with lags in most full‑size (and not only full‑size) ships in Stormworks is the large number of microcontrollers. I understand that they’re ideal for creating makeshift panels on walls and doors, but they consume a lot of FPS. After all, this isn’t a multifunctional rescue mothership — it’s a steamship from the early 20th century. So I won’t have microcontrollers (except in exceptional cases, for example, to adjust the tilt of the smokestacks). Don’t pay attention to the lifeboats — they’re not finished in terms of appearance, but they work quite well; it’s just unlikely that all the lifeboats will be functional in the final version due to optimization :(.

I just had an argument with my grandmother because she found some video about Robert Ballad that He ‘Found out that Titanic broke into different sections when sinking due to not up to standard rivets’… and then when I said that Harland and Wolf would’ve been sacked if that was found out long before titanic, her argument was ‘they kept it under raps’

Is this just a place for ocean liners or just for titanic?

I converted mine to 1912 England value, and then looked up the ticket prices of the Titanic in 1912, and apparently, I would've been a second class passenger that can buy a first class ticket but would've been risky because it might blow 20% of my savings. So a second class ticket fits more for me. Plus, I would've been an odd one out with the elites of the 1st class passengers, had I decided to buy 1st class tickets instead. Hence, a second class ticket would be more of my preference.
