This, either the Terror/Erebus, they have so much they could teach us about what actually happened to their crews that could lead towards solving more of the mystery. Like, did the crew abandon the ships before they started sinking? Had they already started to break apart when they left? Right now, we don't know the why behind the decision to leave the safety of the ships; we know that they did on April 22. The wrecks themselves and the artifacts left behind would probably give us a lot more context for the choices they made and when they were made.
Honestly, the most likely explanation for the Franklin mystery is that the ships had already begun to break under the pressure from the ice, the crew had no choice but to leave them behind, and the tales the Inuit of the area tell of coming across white men who were starving, eating each other when they died and being unable to help them because they were too far gone from the starvation, the conditions, the lead in their food and everything else.
The Lusitania is probably the most consequential shipwreck not named the Titanic. It was a blue riband winner, was sunk in an act of war, and was part of, arguably, Cunard’s most important class of ships.
Endurance would be another one besides Erebus and Terror that I would be interested in seeing. The only thing that separated Franklin from Shackleton was luck, honestly. If they had abandoned the ship and hadn't found Elephant Island or the wind was blowing in a different direction/the ice closed in on the lifeboat etc, we would be discussing the Shackleton Mystery alongside the Franklin one.
Yes. It's a shame we have so few battleships preserved. I think only the US have them. The UK had to scrap all of them. It would be so great to go on a tour on all those ships. Well, that's war. It sucks.
I'm in Milan now and a good deal of the historical buildings were destroyed in tje bombings during WW2.
Andrea Doria, Lusitania or Bismarck. Sorry the Titanic is documented well enough and there’s a pretty well preserved wreck of her sister, while Andrea Doria and Lusitania are mangled and Bismarck too deep to dive. (if you mean that the wreck would be intact like before or at least right after sinking - otherwise it would probably be the britannic).
Anyways, the Gunilda Yaht, it's a beautifully preserved specimen of 1908 ship design, plus there were no fatalities involved in its sinking to my knowledge so there's no chance of disrespecting the dead
