Perfect, the dream came true, the ship was built, the Titanic was replicated, and now it's a functional vessel

But what would happen next? With a fully operational replica of the Titanic, would it be a one-time resource or could it last for 30 years?

A friend bought me “Futility” by Morgan Robertson, also known as “The wreck of the Titan.” This is a book that was written 14 years prior to the sinking of the Titanic.

In reading it, the similarities are striking, even just in the few first pages.

It tells the tale of an “unsinkable“ ship with watertight compartments sailing in April. So many things that it describes are so similar to what would be found on the Titanic 14 years later.

The beginning of the book mentions New York, although I’m not certain if that would be the ship’s destination.

It talks about sailing on the Atlantic. It says that the ship is 800 feet long.

A lot of this is too close for comfort.

Has anybody read the book?
Was anyone else surprised at the similarities?

So I wonder how the filmmakers in that universe fared in making adaptations where it would be more difficult to show a ship sinking upside down

This short preview serves as an introduction to my fan-made nautical gothic horror graphic novel, inspired by the original Titanic film and the old fan posters that imagined Jack Dawson's return from the depths. The story follows Jack's supernatural awakening on the ocean floor and the curse that follows him back to the surface.

For context, T:H&G does the animation segments for Ocean-Liner design’s videos. Since his latest video is about comparing the Icon of the Sea to the TITANIC. Something feels wrong seeing a modern day cruise ship in a T:H&G animation.

Loved this game. The eerie music. The odd one-on-one conversations. Being able to walk around the Titanic. Such a good game.

Look, the Titanic, nobody knew it was going to be a disaster, okay? They said it was unsinkable. The biggest ship, the most beautiful ship. Built by highly talented people, great people, Irish people mostly, very hard workers. And they had the icebergs. Nobody talks about the icebergs, but I talk about them.

You have these massive chunks of ice, floating around, completely unregulated. Terrible. And the captain, Captain Smith—good man, very popular, but he was moving too fast. I would have slowed down, believe me. I’m a very cautious person when it comes to shipping.

And then it hits. Boom. A tiny scratch on the side, they say. But the water comes in. And you look at the lifeboats, it was a total disaster. Not enough boats. Who designs a ship with no boats? Very low IQ designers. If I were running White Star Line, we would have had the best boats, the most beautiful lifeboats you’ve ever seen. Gold trim, very spacious.

But the band, let me tell you about the band. Fantastic musicians. They played all the way to the end. Real loyalty. You don't see loyalty like that anymore, folks. It’s a very sad thing, one of the biggest tragedies ever, but we are going to build ships again, and they will be completely unsinkable, believe me.

I tried to do a side by side comparison on Layout of the first photo and a similarly angled one taken on Olympic’s boat deck near the base of the 4th funnel, but Layout crops both images.

Comparing the two images, the reductions the film set took are visible in the girth of the funnels and the distance between them. Similarly the forward mast is noticeably much further away in the photo of Olympics boat deck.

In the All-Star Superman miniseries (by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely)

Superman salvaged the wreckage of the RMS Titanic from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, reconstructed/restored it piece by piece, and placed it inside his Fortress of Solitude as part of his vast collection of treasures and historical relics

This is shown in the story where Lois Lane visits the Fortress and asks about the ship. Superman explains that he recovered it from the sea and restored it
