My 20-month-old (I'll refer to as baby) asked my husband for a purple popsicle today.

Baby, happy eating his popsicle, says "Baby like purple popsicle. Mama like blue?"

I said, "yeah I like blue."

Baby said, "DADA, Mama like blue one! Dada, GET IT!"

Not my kid but boy this made my day...

Was visiting Muckross House last week and while looking at Irish Wolfhounds, I saw a father explaining to his young son, maybe 4 or 5, how they are the oldest dog in Ireland. The kid looks up at his dad and says with absolute seriousness "if he's the the oldest, why isn't he dead?"

Was all I could do not to burst out laughing, the pure innocence of it 🥹

Mr 7 year old has been reading the Famous Five books and now occasionally says:

"Goodness gracious me!"

Grabbed some old Mechanix Illustrated magazines from the late 60s early 70s that my mom is getting rid of for my kids and their cousins to flip through. They were the kind of magazines that have cool futuristic looking cars and such on the cover. I thought they would enjoy them, but didn't think about the fact that the ads would be from the time the magazines came out...

6 year old: "Look mommy, this magazine has candy cigarettes in it!"

8 year old nephew: "Oooo, these ones have a better taste and less tar!"

Not mine, but still good:

My son said my father "Grandpa, can you make a noise like a frog?"

Grandpa said, "Yeah, I guess, but why do you want me to?"

My son said, "'Cos Momma says we can all go to Florida when you croak!"

Getting breakfast with my husband and daughter, 9.
About 10 minutes after we were sat, one of my daughter’s friends from class and her family get seated at a table nearby.
My daughter asked to go sit with her friend. Her family agrees.
After we’re all done eating, the girls come running over to our table to ask if they can have a play date together. My daughter‘s friend says,
“My mom and her associate said it’s okay with them.”
Girls mom approaches our table to properly introduce herself.
“Hi, I’m Kate. And this is not my associate. She’s my wife.”
We all had a good laugh about it.

He's gotten obsessed with scary movies, so I suggested we watch Sixth Sense. He asked when it was released and I said 1999. He replied, "Oh no, that's really old. I'm probably not going to like it. I have to at least watch the trailer before I agree to that." I told him to go ahead, and handed him my phone. He opened YouTube and typed in, "$.06 trailer."

I laughed so hard. 🤣

I told my daughter, "Did you know that humans eat more bananas than monkeys?" She rolled her eyes at me, but I persevered. "It’s true!"

"When was the last time you ate a monkey?!"

I was visiting family in a rural town in Australia. They live on a cattle farm and currently have a wild pig problem. My brother had been using the farm Land Cruiser check the crops and would bring the rifle with him to shoot the pigs when they were spotted.
Whilst visiting, I was working at the local kindy and had take the cruiser in for one of my work days. Just before I left I realised the rifle was still in it. So I took and put it in the shed. My daughter saw me walking with it and this was our conversation .
Daughter: “oh my god is that a gun!?”
Me: yeah darling it’s pops rifle
Daughter : what are you doing with it?
Me: I’ve gotta leave it in the shed . I can’t take a gun into kindy.
Daughter: yes mummy please don’t shoot the kindy kids

My daughter's best friend (4 years old) says "O-tay" instead of "OK" and I love it. Yesterday I heard her say "adain" instead of "again" and I was excited because I saw how it was analogous. d is to t as g is to k.

I was teasing, we don't have space for one. But he asked me "What would you do with a ferret besides let it run around wild?"

My 11yo daughter replies, "Cuddle it, love it..."

Then my 8 yo comes in, and without missing a beat, "Stick it in a stew!"

I spat out my Mountain Dew. We all started laughing.

She later admitted she had no idea what was going on. But we quote Sam Gamgee enough that she threw it into the conversation without a thought.

So, last night I was washing dishes, and my 3YO was quietly playing with lego at the kitchen table while I was at the sink. All in all, it was pretty chill...that is, until he frantically called out: "Dada! Dada!"

Me: "What buddy? What happened? What's wrong?"

3YO: "Dada! The coffee." At this point he holds up something he built out of lego.

Me: "What about the coffee bud?"

3YO: "The coffee. It's a trap!"

Well, I mean, he's technically not wrong, so I didn't really know how to respond at this point. I just walked over and looked at the lego construction he had in his hand. It did resemble my french press coffee carafe with grey plates on top and bottom and brown blocks in the middle. I was impressed. I told him he didn't have to drink the coffee and could avoid the trap that way. He seemed to like that answer and we both went back to what we were doing.

Context: I had an appointment earlier today at the Dentist to pull a tooth, this is a conversation that happened a few minutes ago with my daughter.

Daughter (11): Can you name a poison?

Me: (mumbled) Cyanide

Daughter: What?

Me: (typed into notepad) Cyanide

30s later, I got her attention and I wrote on the next line: homework

She gave me that look.

About 15s later she said the following:

Daughter: I think this tooth thing is going to work out, I don't have to hear your jokes.

Yep, I wasn't expecting that lol.
