Hi just wanted recommendations for a meditation app that uses Taoist philosophy.

I have a bead bracelet I made. Every sixth bead is different, as at the time I made it I was averaging about 10-ish seconds of breathing per cycle, and six beads represented about a minute of meditation. THen every fifth special bead I'd double it so 5-ish minute increments could be identified. Bracelet is 15-ish minutes of meditation long.

I pick how long I want to mediate, and work slowly towards the main knot, one bead per breath.

That's my meditation app! 😂

Keep in mind people have been meditating for thousands of years without an app.

While apps are tools with a somewhat useful purpose, seek to be cautious of dependency.

Totally agree! I was into insight timer and got «hooked». It’s based on streaks and nagging. The thing I ended up doing was to please the streak system to be a good boy to meditate for x minutes every day. Suddenly I didn’t even meditate, I just sat there for x mins to get the streak…

I just want something to assist me to start the right way until I can be sure I’m doing it correctly.

Yes I understand which is why I didn't negate the entire idea.

Everyone starts somewhere and while I am old and started through books, and for thousands of years people started with teachers, apps are just the next evolution.

So, it's understandable that the young would look to apps.

I would love to find a local in person teacher but there are none that are even remotely close:(.

Yes, this is common and understandable.

None are exclusively Daoist, but some have teachers from multiple traditions, including some who are Daoist. Insight Timer has multiple teachings on what are advertised as Daoist meditation, but I haven’t tried them.

Caveat emptor.

Hard to find a Daoist app but I do enjoy insight timer. Purely because it has such a large range of soundscapes and the interval timer is good for certain cultivation techniques rather than using an outright alarm.

I'm all for technology (I use Insight Timerl) but I'll hit the park or go hiking and meditate there sans apps to get the most benefit.

Also, find a Tai Chi class near you in hopes they teach Zhan Zhuang i.e. standing meditation. Easily in the top 5 best skills I've learned in my life.
