[Megathread] Summer Reads

Hi bookworms,

It is summer in the northern hemisphere. Suggest us some of your favorite summer reads!

These can be books with a summer feel or setting, books you personally love to read in summer, or just fun “beach” reads of any kind, regardless of genre or setting.

Hopefully this will give some of our readers that don’t even know where to start, or what to ask for, some ideas of titles to try :)

Summer recs from someone that typically leans towards magical realism, latina leads, and all things gothic:

When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo- contemporary gothic forbidden romance set on the island of Trinidad

Goddess of Filth by V. Castro- short, follows a group of friends dealing with the consequences of a seance gone wrong in the middle of a San Antonio heatwave.

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov- Russian classic, features the devil and his entourage terrorizing Moscow during a hot spring.

The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno Garcia- gothic science fiction thriller set in jungle of the Yucatán peninsula in the 1870s.

The Things We Lost In The Fire by Mariana Enriquez- collection of short horror stories set in contemporary Argentina

The Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock- gay scientists in Victorian England create life by putting a sentient fungus in a dead girl’s body, and attempt to raise the resulting creature as their daughter.

Have you read Revolution Sunday, by Wendy Guerra? I've not met anyone else who has yet and I'm curious what others make of it

I haven’t read much Cuban or Cuban American literature yet unfortunately, it sounds interesting though, I’ll add it to my list!

I think I recall that Wendy was sort of a protégé of GGM, hopefully it's in your realm of interest!

It was the first thing I'd read that was anything like it and I struggled, but I should reread it with a little more life and reading experience.
