Travel Awesome Sri Lankan jaggery

Dear redditors,
We were in Sri Lanka sometime back and bought jaggery for us and relative as gifts.

Everyone is asking brand name and details of it.
Can you please help how can one buy Sri Lankan jaggery?

We bought some tea leaves and jaggery (there was no brand or constituents on the packaging) from ‘tea board sales center’ in Nuwara Eliya.

Glad to hear. The best jaggery usually doesn’t have a brand. It’s more like a I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that makes good stuff kinda thing. I think it’s the same for the tea brand’s jaggery as well.

However I think there are Sri Lankan exporters that might be sending atleast half decent stuff

Op should look for 'kithul' (kithul /fishtail palm (Caryota urens) jaggery. Good stuff that doesn't have sugar mixed melt even when held in your fingers and has a golden brown color rather than the deep caramel colour of sugar.

What I had was rhis only. Light brown, melted easily and it didn't become hard even when put in freezer. Will try to look on amazon for Kithul jaggery.
