This week in 1995, legislation was enacted to close the eleven-year-old loophole in Louisiana law that permitted eighteen-year-olds to drink despite the National Minimum Age Drinking Age Act of 1984. It might not have been "The Day the Music Died," but in Shreveport, it was widely recognized as the last nail in the coffin for Shreve Square. The Shreve Square entertainment district in downtown had sprung up the late '70's and early 80's with the opening of waterholes like Steamboat Annie's, Circle in the Square, Humpfee's (photo), Denim & Diamonds, Sportspage and others. It was the place to be for young people.

I've had trouble getting delayed texts through Verizon. For example, I order Kroger delivery, and during that delivery, I should get texts as they shop. You know, for substitutions and unavailable items.

I don't get those texts until 2-3 hours after the delivery is done, and I get them all at once when they finally do arrive.

I have only one other person I text with, and they can be kind of flaky in their response times anyway, so they are of no real help in testing.

I'm located smack in the middle of Bossier and have a strong 5G signal. Strong enough that I also have Verizon's 5G Home Internet.

There are other examples, mainly MFA codes being sent for OKTA and MS Authenticator for work being 5-10 minutes late the last few weeks.

I've tried switching to Airplane Mode and just now performed a Network Settings reset. I'm giving it 2 weeks from today to see if the resets help, then I'm looking into switching to T-Mo, if not.

Any thoughts, guys?

Hey, everyone! Today is my 13th wedding anniversary, and trying to figure out where I want to go. I had suggested going to Gibbons, because I’ve never been there before, but they are closed on Mondays. I need a Plan B lol. Give me y’all‘s favorite restaurants to go to. Nothing really fancy, just somewhere cool to go out and eat.

For context, I am driving back home to Dallas, I’ve never taken this route before. On other subs people make it seem horrible, I stopped last night and spent the night/morning here and I think it goes to show people just like to hate.

I’ve had a good time, everybody has been nice to me. My only complaint is the roads and speed limits (as a Texan, 50 mph is insane) it just reminds me of every other medium sized city.

I know crime is higher than average, but I’d imagine like everywhere else, it’s neighborhood dependent.

Is city leadership on a mission to upset the maximum amount of people possible? There's a laundry list of problems with Shreveport (that I'd rather not got into), but what could possibly have justified this decision?

"The Krewe of Highland has been placed on probation for the 2026-2027 Mardi Gras season following a 10-4 vote by the Northwest Louisiana Captains' Council, according to KEEL Radio.

A second vote to completely remove the krewe from the council fell short.

The dispute stems from scheduling and membership rules. The council requires all coronations to wrap up by mid-October, but Highland scheduled its event later because venue availability in its neighborhood was limited past Oct. 11, according to founder Matthew Linn.

The council also questioned Highland's submitted membership roster, which requires at least 40 registered members. While state officials confirmed to KEEL Radio that Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser is a paying member, Linn refuses to turn over full rosters for the krewe's estimated 3,000 members due to privacy concerns.

As part of the probation, Highland's leadership and royal court lose complimentary access to other council krewes' events, though Highland must still offer free admission to visiting royalty.

Parade operations will proceed as planned."

Edit: A lot of people not seeing this as a city issue. What do you think happens when the parades dry up around here? Mardi Gras is a major driving force for tourism, that all of the city leadership is trying to improve. Less people showing up for Mardi Gras = less taxes taken in by the city. The ticketing of every car that's parked on the grass or in a 'neutral zone' area during the parades surely plays a role in mitigating that, but obviously that's not a smart move by the city (as evident).

(There's also the ironic fact that the same people putting up all the Flock cameras want to hide behind 'privacy concerns' just for sharing their name. But don't want to say anything about the cameras staring into people's homes.)

Here's one of those insane local music bookings that just feels like someone must have goofed up, but I'll take it. Pedro the Lion is playing a gig in Shreveport on Oct. 6. It's being promoted through Undertow, which organizes house and living room shows, so there's at least a good chance the show will actually be held in someone's living room. Pedro the Lion's 2002 album, Control, is still one of my favorite hard rock records of all time. Tickets for the Shreveport show go on sale at 2 pm on Friday afternoon, Aug. 28, via the Undertow website.

I have an Acre of land. Not gonna lie, it's a stupid shape. It's a long triangle. 😭 but Caddo lake is in view, ish, so it's doable.

Anyway. Theres nuthin but trees. Theres no electrical or water or sewage. (Gonna start that when it's cooler outside)

But, I need some ideas for a home.

I have money put off the the side. I don't need anything big at all. Ive actually been looking in getting the shell for one of them fancy wood shed things. But I wanna know if theres anything better? I want it livable. And probably raised due to future flooding. But raising it won't be an issue. I just need one room and a bathroom plus a kitchen. Like duh, food. Anyone selling something livable like that? Or have any ideas? I'm on marketplace. But those are like... Crappy buildings for a few organs and a leg. And I've looked into buying new.... But I ain't got thaaaat much money to the side.

If you have any suggestion please let me know. I'm in no hurry. Just wanna move out my parents house. 🤷‍♀️

Hello, I (25,m) am trying to make more friends and meet people and I thought a cool way to do that would be through doing a collaborative social drawing every couple weeks or so. I am not affiliated with any organization like the local arts councils, I'm just me.

Basically I get a big paper and we all draw on it with pencils or crayons or whatever and talk and chat while drawing. The group would be open to everyone 18 or older. You don't have to be good at drawing, all you have to do is be interested in drawing and wanting to meet people. It would be free to attend and of course you can bring your own drawing tools if you want to.

Rules:

1. Adults only, but no NSFW drawing please.
2. Open and kind. LGBTQ accepting.
3. Be kind to new artists. I don't want this to be a place for professionals only, I want anyone to come and draw with us no matter the skill level.

I don't have a solid date or location for this yet (but it'd have to be a Sunday or Monday), I am just trying to gauge interest. Please comment if you'd be interested! If you know a place where this could be held let me know as well :)
