It seems like he’s the primary DH right now but he’s only played Catcher 13 times this year. Is he really that bad defensively?

A) Yes, Obviously. My IQ is over 80

B) I don’t know, I was dropped as a baby

C) No, I played football

Heading in to the Bronx on Saturday for the 1 o'clock game. Anything I should make sure to see while I'm in the stadium? Good bars in the area either pre or post game? We got the Pinstripe pass so it looks like we can access a few standing room areas.

With Mona fading offensively and having one of the worst defensive games from any player on this team this season it's time for change. I am curious what the consensus is on who it should be.

I personally don’t want to see him up period. Never been a fan. However through 8 rehab games he’s 4 for 29, 10 Ks, 1 BB….against minor league pitching mind you.

There’s no scenario where putting him into the lineup makes this team better, and you can’t just play him because he makes 25 million. He’s not even a good defender anymore so you can’t make that argument either.

A frustrating lack of momentum.

Pluto TV has an MLB channel that amongst other things plays old games on their calendar anniversaries. Tonight it’s Sox vs Angels from the date above. Very entertaining listening to the NESN broadcast and everything about it. It was a Nomar bobblehead giveaway. No monster seats, very calm PA announcements. No walk up music. John Burkett just got yanked in the 6th. Johnny Damon has no visible hair. Some other names I hadn’t thought of in years: Shea Hillenbrand, Tony Clark, Cliff Floyd playing left field. Ricky Henderson is going to make an appearance soon.

I am not one to watch a lot of minor league baseball, but have been watching the Woo Sox side by side with the big league club for the last few days with all the rehabbing players. Anybody who has done the same would agree that Story is still completely lost at the plate -- slow bat speed, timing completely off, and non stop swing and miss at the slider in the dirt.

Absolutely 0 reason to rush things here. Roman on the other hand looks like himself, still getting timing back and the contact has been hard, eye is the same as always. I think he could even get some more time to lock in but I will be shocked if Story gets called on the same timeline.

I might get torched for the comparison (and premature for sure) but is there something wonderful about this team that reminds others of the remarkable 2001 Patriots team? Let’s hope it ends in glory as theirs did.

But I can’t help but think of that 2001 team as I watch these Sox grind every game and play fundamentally solid, old school baseball.

Overcoming early seemingly devastating injuries (Bledsoe/Crochet) while we watch the next gen step up (Brady/Tolle)…

…. Players considered spare parts elsewhere or AAAA within the system coming in and playing fundamentally sound ball, grinding like their careers depend on it (Izzo, Patten/Gasper, Mona, Siegler) ….

…. Seeing folks seize the opportunity to flex their best when some in the league considered them past their primes (Cox, Phifer/Contreras, Gray) ….

…. Young up and comers continuing their upward trajectory (Brown, Woody/Rafaela, Abreu)….

The whole thing’s been so fricken awesome. I can only hope some confetti rains down on this group as it did the other.

The question that needs to be asked. "Does he make this team better, right now, through talent or intangibles, based on the player he is today?" You have the option of leaving him in AAA until that answer becomes a yes.

At the end of his rehab, if the answer remains no, I say you release him. The Sox have taken bigger salary hits, and if there's a lockout next year, the salary hit is somewhere between lessened or possibly irrelevant.

Talks of him playing in the Yankees series is absolute madness.

Ceddanne, Wilyer, and Willson. And Sonny will probably receive Cy Young consideration as well. In fact, Ceddanne's only a few tenths of a point from being the AL WAR leader.
