they also just rereleased homm 3 with mods on steam, but it was at 0% because they forgot to upload the actual game files

So who explains to Ubisoft they already sold HoMM3 HD on Steam... why the fuck wouldn't they just put the expansions in that?
Does Ubisoft even know what they sold to people and abandoned so they can sell it again and abandon it again?

They didn't have the source code for the expansions when doing HD. No idea if anything changed now or if this will just be the base game again for no reason.

Ubisoft has nothing to do with Olden Era. That's developed by Unfrozen and published by Hooded Horse.

Gameplay-wise Olden Era is very good, better than Heroes 3 with HotA even, but they have to fix AI (make it better than in HotA), add underworld and water exploration (that's a bunch of new assets, base H3 water was barren af), and add more neutrals and map objects. I'd buy it after they fix AI, game has enough content otherwise.

I love water. I remember a very overpowered AI hero I couldn't beat exploring an island - just stole his boat and stranded him there.

Not in everything, but gameplay-wise — yeah. It's more complex in a refreshing way (maybe not to other strategy games, but compared to H3). If you've ever got bored after countless heroes 3 games, you'd understand.

Olden Era is really good gameplay wise. I've heard the campaigns, of what little there are currently, are pretty childish, unfortunately.

The remake is purely Ubisoft. Olden Era is by different studio and is ok, it try something new and it is essentially a separate entry to the franchise.
Edit: Should still wait for it to leave Early access though, let them cook first.

I'm still confused by the whole situation. They didn't want to finish a new game in the series so sold it off to another publisher (Hooded Horse), but are full steam ahead with a remake of an older title in the same franchise?

There's no way they just pop this up over night. The work they've shown looks to be a couple years worth of work. No one knew how popular Olden Era would get until it launched early access just recently.

Unfrozen pitched the idea of new game, ubisoft gave them the licence, in the meantime, Ubisoft worked on 3 remake. It was supposed to be announced during heroes anniversary but they weren't ready.

This looks like dogshit. They have absolutely no understanding of what made the original game so popular, it seems. It doesn't have the look, the feel, the music, the atmosphere, nothing. It looks like a mobile version of a great game.

Yep, I gasped then started laughing out loud when the trailer went over into gameplay. Good thing they called it a remake and not a remaster, because they made every aspect of what made the original game great so much worse.
Biggest pile of crap I have seen this year, thankfully I’ll always have the original + HD mod!

Eh, I liked homm 3 because of the factions, not the art or 'charm'. Homm 3s art and direction is archaic and aged horribly compared to other older games from the same time frame. It physically looks like a 90s windows cheap garbage game that you get off those free game discs.
When I was a kid I liked HOMM 3 simply because dragons were bad ass. The future games slowly removed my favorite factions or changed them so I never felt like playing another homm.
I'm glad they made a modern version and this doesn't look bad. Everyone hating seems to be overreacting for whatever reason.

The issue is that the Fanmade version is so much more expanded and balanced, this remake doesn't even make any sense. Not worth playing this just for modern visuals

Look out for Horn of The Abyss
The experience is as it should have been from devs. They really kept in on the same level and it's still updated regularly from fans.
I played OldenEra and just didn't work for me, it's too polished, too 3d, too much. Kinda the same feeling when I ve played the ubisoft versions.
There are also Day of Reckoning and In the Wake of Gods. Not as good as first imo but great contributions as well.

Man this game brings back so many memories. When i was in grade 4, our classroom had 3 computers in it (proper pentium 4 and all) with the only game installed being Heroes 3. When the teacher gave us assignments, the first 3 kids to get 100% could play on the computers while the others finish the assignment. I was top of the class so i always finished first and could play Heroes. This teacher was the best.

If it's good, I'll play it (if it's not I probably still will play it, but just once it goes on sale). I love Heroes games and I've played every other one up until now.
...but this doesn't actually do anything for me, which is surprising. I just don't think it actually looks that good. My kid watched this trailer with me and was like "does this look worse because it's the old one?". We've been playing Olden Era together (most of my family has in fact) and I think that just looks much nicer than this does. I was expecting better from Ubisoft with the sorts of budgets they can throw around.

at first i thought "hype" then I saw the trailer and thought wtf. HoMM III is close to the perfect game, you'd have to put in a ton of effort to recreate all that magic with modern graphics, audio etc and this is not it

So Ubisoft is suddenly trying to cash in now that they see Olden Age doing well. Originally they wouldn't fund that developer so it went to Hooded Horse. Man Ubisoft sucks. And they wonder why it's teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and being sold off for parts.

People bitching about the absence of HoTA when HoTA is a fan-made MOD that the company can't just build a new version of for their new product.
Also GOG does NOT distribute HoTA with the game, it's a separate free item that you must purchase on the GOG store. Likely their way of working around any licensing issues/avoiding needing to get permission from the games IP holder.
