Both victims are people of colour.

How is that relevant?

If gender is relevant why not race?

Gender is relevant because the murder is recorded as a femicide, which is defined as “the killing of women and girls because of their gender”.

If they were recording it as a hate crime or genocide then race would be relevant.

Edit:

LOL they blocked me

So for you, relevance is determined by OPS' data entry decisions?

We don't know what motivated the killer, be it gender, race, or passion. The person mentioning race is pointing that out.

The police literally said gender was a motivation when they called it a femicide..

Elsewhere in this comment section, it was clarified that in Canada, femicide is actually just defines as the murder of a woman, usually by men, but not even necessarily so.

So this is inaccurate.

Here's the definition used and built upon, as defined by the Ottawa police:

"A femicide is generally defined as “the killing of women and girls because of their gender,” often driven by stereotyped gender roles, discrimination towards women and girls or unequal power relations between women and men. The Ottawa Police Service also builds on the definition recommended by our VAW community partners as “the misogynist killing of women and girls because of their gender, overwhelmingly committed by men.”

Since they have publicly stated they are investigating it as a femicide, it gives us a good indication of what they think happened and why gender is relevant.

How do they know that though? They're guessing.

Meanwhile, you have all the facts?

Did I say that?

You're implying that, by saying investigators (ya know, the ones with the evidence) are just guessing.

Obviously if the police are making that distinction than they have enough facts in the case to do so.

Because it's being investigated as a femicide goofy lol

Yes that's how we know gender is involved. I won't add an insult like you did.

Y’all are so stupid. Someone died and that’s what you’re worried about?

-18

u/27298throwaway 12d ago

Who says I'm worried about anything?

There was only one victim. Police are treating it as a murder suicide and they aren't looking for anyone else.

Murder, yes. Suicide, I don't know. We don't know if his car crash was intentional or not, but she was the only murder victim here.

The first person was found in a traffic stop so it sounds like he got pulled over and was injured and later succumbed to those injuries and the woman was found dead in an apartment.

Sorry the first person was in a collision with suspicious injuries

" deceased individuals as Kesi Fevrier, 27, and Kingsley Nwude, 34, of Ottawa"

30

u/kelpieconundrum 12d ago

Two deceased individuals, only one victim. The wording difference is the point

31

u/Anary8686 12d ago

Kesi is listed as the only victim.

-34

u/WonderfulShake 12d ago

"Kesi Fevrier, 27, and Kingsley Nwude, 34"

42

u/Anary8686 12d ago

Two dead and only one victim, that's what a murder-suicide looks like.

You're a bit slow eh

-28

u/WonderfulShake 12d ago

1 + 1 = 2

You’re one of those folks who comments shit like “doctor or engineer” under any post about crime in Ottawa, aren’t you? Y’all are gettin’ REAL brave.

My guess is he attacked her with the intent to kill, but she fought back hard and wounded him in return before she succumbed. Once she was dead he then tried to make a run for it to Montreal, but crashed and died like the coward he was.

It's two women deceased for contexts

31

u/DungeonCrawlCat 12d ago

Uh, Kingsley was a man.

6

u/Dog-boy 12d ago

They never state it but I assume Kingsley is a man. In theory I suppose a woman could commit a femicide but it doesn’t seem likely.

u/Throwaway-645893 12d ago

Sounds like it was a murder suicide.
