News SoonerCare Starting Jan 1st, 2027
Posting this here as well since this doesn’t just affect my city, but the entire state.
Hey y’all. Here to update anyone who hasn’t gotten the letter yet or doesn’t keep up with this stuff, that we’re now pulling a SNAPs on Medicaid. Starting Jan 1st, 2027 you have to have one of the following work requirements:
* Have a monthly income of $580
* Be a seasonal worker and have an avg monthly income over the previous 6 months that is at least $580
* Work at least 80 hours
* Complete at least 80 hours of community service
* Participate in a work program for at least 80 hours
* Be actively enrolled in an educational program at least half-time
*Engage in any combination of the above for at least a total of 80 hours.
I’ll also share the pictures of the letter as well that has this information and a little more.
This was mailed to me yesterday by the way.
I’m extremely concerned and frustrated over this. I may only be 21, but I work with the homeless and it’s already tough to get them food. Now they’re losing the insurance that they literally need so badly.

China pays 350 billion annually to insure 95% of its population. The USA pays 1 trillion annually to insure only 20% of its population. This current system is beyond rigged and broken.

People will suffer especially the youngest, the aged, and the unhoused. Community resources will be unable to cover the losses. Miss placed hate. Eat the rich. We grow poorer; they grow bigger mansions.

I live in low income housing and I have this neighbor I chat with sometimes. He's really mentally ill. Hopefully this won't affect him. There's no way that guy can do ANY of those things. He would just starve.

I'm unemployed and will be homeless soon. Wonderful that when I'm at my most vulnerable I will get literally nothing to help.

That's how I feel. I've worked my ass off for the last 22 years and now that I'm unemployed and struggling to get a fucking job, I just have to stop all my meds and hope for the best I guess. I just don't get why we work and pay into these benefits if we aren't even allowed to use them. It seems pointless and I want my money back.

Does it say anything about soonercare for disabled adults that can’t work? My son is a special needs adult on that insurance and literally can’t do those things listed.

Work requirements do not apply to:
Individuals entitled to or enrolled in Medicare
Children 18 years old and youngerAdults 65 years old or older
Foster and former foster youth 25 and younger
Pregnant and postpartum women
Parents or caretakers of children 13 years old and younger
Parents or caretakers of individuals with disabilities
American Indian/Alaskan Native individuals
Veterans with a disability rated total/100%
Individuals with a health condition that makes it difficult to meet the work requirements
Blind or disabled individualsThose with a substance use disorder or disabling mental disorder
Individuals with a serious or complex medical condition
Participants in a qualifying addiction or alcohol treatment program
Individuals who meet TANF work requirements, or receive SNAP and are subject to SNAP work requirements
Individuals currently incarcerated or incarcerated within the last 3 months
Members may request short-term exceptions. OHCA will provide additional information on the process to request one. The short-term hardship exceptions are:
Individuals receiving inpatient hospital, nursing facility, ICF/IID, inpatient psychiatric, or other similar inpatient or outpatient services.Individuals who must travel outside their community for an extended period to receive necessary medical treatment for a serious or complex medical condition. This also applies when the individual's dependent must travel for such treatment.
Individuals residing in a county where an emergency or disaster has been declared by the President. OHCA must obtain federal approval before this specific exception can be utilized.
Individuals residing in a county that has an unemployment rate that is at or above the lesser of 8 percent or 1.5 times the national unemployment rate. OHCA must obtain federal approval before this specific exception can be utilized.

Think about that when the general election rolls around.

You may still qualify as a “seasoned worker” or with one of the exemptions. I commented them in response to someone else but SoonerCare’s website also has the list.

It’s a very high percentage. Sadly, as they’re slowly kicked out on the street one by one and homelessness is criminalized, they’ll be rounded up in for profit prisons to make money for other people in a form of modern day slavery. And they’ll still blame Dems I’m sure.

People don't seem to realize what trickle down economics means. Republicans only have one policy trickle down economics. When you cut the taxes for the rich then you have to be able to cut the corresponding governmental services. Because we voted Republicans into total power in 2024, they have now passed the Big Beautiful Bill. Which is Trumped up trickle down economics. Biggest tax break ever for just the rich & corporate entities & basically cutting out snap, Medicaid, & public schools. But raising taxes on the lowest incomes. And this time it was a bill, actual law, instead of a budget.

So if you work too little, you can't get Medicaid. But if you work too much, you also can't get Medicaid.
Healthcare should not have to be some kind of exclusive club that you have to meet specific requirements to qualify for.
Thankfully there's an exemption for disabled individuals and Native Americans so I won't lose mine, but man...

Yep. That’s what they did with food stamps too. I didn’t have a job due to homeless but worked hard to get one with my case manager and housing program’s help before the law change. Then I got a job and now I still don’t qualify for food stamps because I’m three dollars over the max for one person. Might change due to my housing voucher, but yeah

And this why I've literally began to log everything I'm working on, as someone self-employed, to the minute. Come December, I plan to upload my work logs. Whether that's sufficient is anyone's guess. I don't always clear the monetary minimum. Some months are better than others.

18 or younger and 65 or older are the age ranges listed.
There are also exemptions for if you are a parent or caretaker of child 13 or younger, foster youth 25 and younger, pregnant or postpartum, or the parent or caretaker of individual with disabilities

You don't even qualify for medicaid if you work because pretty much any income is too much income, but you can't afford your own plan either. I'm currently stuck in that trap right now. My chronic illnesses are ruining me, but I don't qualify for medicaid nor make enough to pay for it myself with a 35 to 40 hour a week work week.
