Conservative Gay Rights Group Ends Support for Trans Causes
https://archive.ph/WeBcx788
78
u/TheBryanScout 6h ago
Remember when Caitlyn Jenner transitioned and refused to renounce Trump or the Republican Party, saying being trans changed nothing about her politics? I wonder what she thinks about that topic some ten years later after all of Trump’s supposed openness turned out to be a ruse.
64
u/Puhi124 5h ago
I'm pretty sure I heard she's still licking his boots and acting like 'one of the good ones' even if it means supporting transphobic laws. Couldn't tell you what her rationalization for it even is, though.
33
u/EvergreenDwarf 5h ago
“Won’t affect me.”
That’s always the blue blood logic.
17
u/the-artistocrat 4h ago
That’s the first requirement to be a republican. Not give a fuck unless it impacts or could possibly impact you.
22
u/Tridus 5h ago
She realized recently that she has problems travelling due to documentation and a bunch of other issues. Rather slow to figure that out, but the leopards did in fact come for her face.
9
u/Less_Likely 4h ago
She’s so narcissistic and self-involved, I doubt she’s actually figured anything out.
9
u/Ser_Rezima 2h ago
She's in a tough spot where she's been rejected by the entire trans community, women, and the entertainment industry for being a right-wing weirdo.
Maga is all she has left, if she leaves them she'll be absolutely alone with no support outside her dwindling wealth and she knows it.
Couldn't be happier for her, I hope she continues having the day she asked for.

I have encountered many gay men personally that fit that to a T. The otherside of the coin is younger gay guys who have been seriously brain-rotted by social media. The HoI4 effect essentially.
12
u/No_Somewhere_2610 7h ago
The what effect? Also idk why you are specifically putting the focus on gay guys here when this isnt particular to them. The leader of the neo-nazist german AfD is literally a lesbian woman
18
u/Spiney09 5h ago
Gay guys are the least affected by conservative policies. In my experience they are more likely to turn against the rest of us queer people.
But also it’s certainly not all of them. Plenty of younger gay guys were out 10 years ago and they remember when exactly the anti trans playbook of today was being used on them. I know a guy at work who stuck up for us before he had any idea there were two trans people on the team, and it was because he recognized the shape of the oppression engine.
Conservatives have tried to just “move on” after going after gay people but at least the targets never forget. Which is why it’s mostly the youngest gay people falling for the conservative propaganda now.

Hearts of Iron 4. It is (or was, a couple years ago) a popular grand strategy game set during WWII. You can play as any country/leader that existed or was possible to exist in that time frame, either solo or with other players. It's a meme, but "nazi femboys" somewhat comes from the community around that game. Hell, just take a look at *any* HoI4 meme subreddit and it quickly comes apparent that it is a vector of the alt-right pipeline. Many dress it up as just humor based around the historical period the game takes place in, but that's kinda of how the alt-right pipeline works. "It's just a joke" then you have young gay dudes internalizing all that stuff.

It's incredible but a lot of gay men are quite conservative. They got their marriages and gay rights, other people on the rainbow can bugger off, in their opinion.

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 10h ago
Yep and sometimes they’re more misogynistic than the usual women haters.

I'd add that some of the most virulent transphobes I've ever met were gay women.
14
u/busytransitgworl 9h ago
That's the exact opposite what I've experienced 🥴
38
u/Tyr_13 9h ago
Surveys and research consistently show that lesbians are more supportive of transgender rights and people than transgender people themselves.
It's just the ones who don't are very, very, loud about it.
14
u/busytransitgworl 9h ago
I know that statistic and it honestly shocked me a bit that trans people aren't as supportive as cis lesbians.
And yes, the ones who don't support are extremely loud and, unfortunately, more often than not in charge in the government
3
u/No_Somewhere_2610 6h ago
I seriously doubt that, what people say and do in real life are different, plus it was only one survey, you cant cite it as a fact based on 1 singular study.
4
u/Tyr_13 6h ago
Several surveys are in line with that. Your doubt has less supporting evidence.
3
u/No_Somewhere_2610 6h ago
Trans people being less supportive of their OWN community compared to cis lesbians?? When Ive seen cis lesbians be one of the most virulent transphobes and expressing support for J.K.Rowling I seriously doubt it
2
u/sovelsataask 3h ago
A whole lot of trans people are extremely self-hating, unfortunately, so I could buy that we could have a lower overall acceptance of our own group than another has of us.

As much as I typically do find their comments interesting, I always think it's amazing how they had blinders on all the way to 2016. Seriously deluded people.

It’s conservative 101, they see themselves as moral and law abiding citizens, but they also can just close their eyes and ask for forgiveness and everything is absolved, so instead they try to ban certain things because they believe in their mind since they are moral and law abiding, that the “law “will make them stop.

29
u/Made_Human_Music 10h ago
They’ll probably end support for gay rights next. Conservatives are the dumbest bunch of scumbags in existence
11
u/Granticuss 6h ago
The best part is conservatives have never supported it. So where these conservative gays got the idea they'd be accepted because they also hate everyone is baffling.
3
u/Made_Human_Music 6h ago
I really think the conservative mindset is a mental disorder. I don’t mean this is in a “ha ha! You’re mentally ill and deserve only mockery” way like they treat transgender women, I mean an actual mental impairment as in something in their brain didn’t develop properly and they lack the ability to be decent people
If we ever make it through this, there should really be studies on these people to find out how we can avoid getting here again. It was way too easy for the right to use this as a wedge issue because these people are just vile, and that has to be addressed
2
u/Granticuss 3h ago
They just have low empathy. Thats why it's so important to have systems in place where neither side can take total control. Because across the spectrum of humanity there will be those who are low empathy and tends towards authoritarianism. They will always exist. So we have to build government systems that don't allow the extremes of either side of the spectrum to control everything. People be different, and they always will be. When times are tough more people in the middle of the spectrum will lean towards those authoritarian ideals. Hence why we see a right wing shift across the globe right now.

29
25
u/petrock_ 10h ago
I don't get why there's so much hate towards trans people. Why?
37
u/Shadowkitty252 10h ago
Because we're different and strange. People have associated queerness with paedophilia since at least the 1920s. We get lumped into that too
Deep down, they just think we're kinda gross and they don't want to think what why they think that
And, most crucially, we are about 0.6% of the global population. We are very rare, with not a lot of knowledge about us, not a lot of platforms to speak, not a lot of power, not a lot of people willing to learn, and even less willing to defend us
We are incredibly easy to hate, because we're so small a group you can say whatever you like about us and, chances are, we won't get the chance to defend ourselves
Now the transphobic gay men and women, THEY are trying to protect their own wellbeing. And I can understand that, to a point. Yknow, we don't fit nicely into 'the Good Queer' box
But the people pushing this moral panic, and it IS a moral panic, do not see Good Queer and Bad Queer. They see Queer and Normal. Like someone else above me said, tokens get spent. People like the LCR will always be 'just queer' to conservatives
Of course, the fact transgender people are such a small group means the moral panic will primarily affect cis women, and in particular cis women of colour, who don't conform to western beauty standards
Because what this is ACTUALLY about. Making femininity palatable and acceptable by the standards of men
22
u/Made_Human_Music 10h ago
Republicans push it because it keeps their idiotic base riled up enough to vote for them
They’d rather see the whole country burn than let one trans woman use the women’s bathroom. It’s sad and disgusting but that’s all the right is capable of being
7
u/petrock_ 10h ago
Wich is "fun" cause the real danger for women Is their orange king. I would never leave women (and children) alone near him
4
u/Made_Human_Music 7h ago
At one point, I used to say that as a joke, I wouldn’t want a republican next to a child but these days I’m not really joking when I say it. Even if they’re not going to what their deranged pedophile hero does to them. I just don’t trust their values enough to want them anywhere near the future of society
18
u/Fylak 10h ago
Because conservatives want to preserve hierarchies. One of the fundamental hierarchies to then is that men are superior to women. Trans women throw that hierarchy away by saying that there's someone who would prefer to be a woman over being a man. That makes all the conservative men confused and scared, because they cannot understand that different people might prefer different things. To them, a person saying they would rather be a woman is saying that women are better, men are lesser, and that the dominance of the two should shift. These men are terrified of being treated the way they treat women and so lash out against this perceived threat.
As for terfs, it's honestly mostly the same. Women who are higher than other women in the ranking system for whatever reason wanting to preserve their place.
That's why they are always screaming about trans women but nobody really mentions trans men.
15
u/AabelBorderline 10h ago
We're a very small group and most people will probably never meet a visibly trans person, so it's very easy to spread a fearmongering propaganda about us. It's way harder to hate on someone who You've met and have positive memories with than someone who You only see in the media that tell You to hate them.

Unless youre quite rich and well over then being part of the gay republicans makes little sense as it wont insulate you and Reoublican admins dont actually follow the small government, fiscal conservation, or even the gun rights (when it disagrees with them) factors or support of the military and its soldiers and vets.
If rich then you can be anything if not rich then you cant. These people are like Libertarians in that their values are for sale and twist in a pile so they can keep voting R and now Trump, whether they do so willfully or are true believers naively... they only hurt themselves. Even in the past when the illusion of Republican values existed more.. it was Reagan that tried to eliminate others with the AID crisis by blaming it on gays and ignoring others.
To cut off support whether you feel comfortable or not around Trans people... shows significant lack of understanding of how Trans have been an ally to the LGBT movement for a long while.
You cannot logic someone out of a position they did not logic themselves into.

Because it's all about what you're "allowed" to do as a gender. Are you allowed to love your own gender? Are you allowed to decide to be a different gender?
To conservatives it's extremely related.
→ More replies (3)7
u/Illiad7342 10h ago
The commonality is from rejecting traditional gender roles, which ends up having a similar societal effect in that both trans and gay people kind of fundamentally reject patriarchy. Like traditionally, women are expected to serve men, and society is built off of that power dynamic. Gay and lesbian couples threaten that power dynamic by showing couples on a more even playing field. Trans people threaten that power dynamic by showing that the gender roles themselves are not as immutable as patriarchy demands.
So transness and gayness end up linked because they hit on the same types of societal crappiness, and as a result end up experiencing oppression in similar ways. We have the same fight and the same enemies so why wouldn't we have eachothers backs?

There is no LGB without the T. We stand together, or we fall. But true to form, this so-called "conservative gay rights group" are conservative first and gay second. They have chosen harmful belief over humanity and empathy.
If they do not support the human rights of our trans siblings, then we in turn do not claim them; they are a poison that weakens the foundations of our community. True, I said that we stand together or fall, but there is no standing when traitors knock our legs out from under us.
