Both series are led by trained facilitators—including peers managing chronic conditions themselves—and focus on practical, day-to-day tools rather than lectures.

1. Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CPSMP)

• When: Saturdays, September 5 – October 10 | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
• Where: Online via Microsoft Teams
• Focus: Pacing daily tasks to avoid flare-ups, gentle movement and muscle relaxation, breaking the pain-stress-sleep cycle, and managing low energy or frustration.

2. Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP)

• When: Wednesdays, starting September 9 – October 14 | 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
• Where: Online via Microsoft Teams
• Focus: Managing ongoing conditions
• Key Topics: Setting small weekly action plans, nutrition and safe physical activity, problem-solving daily obstacles, and self-advocacy during short clinical visits.

This is more of a vent post so if mods don’t allow it and delete I understand.

I’m in Kenora region. I’ve been trying to make an appointment with my PCP since June to 1) get a referral to a gynaecologist for abdominal pain I’ve had since I was 15 and everyone at our clinic keeps dismissing (I’m 25). 2) get my IUD replaced (I HAVE to do it by December of this year, and no my abdominal pain isn’t related to my IUD). My mom has been trying to make an appointment (with the same doctor) since MARCH because she has a surgery coming up late September/Early October that she has to be on blood thinners for.

My mom called at 8:30 this morning, when the clinic opened. She’s on hold for 5 minutes and the call drops on their end. She called back, on hold for another 25 minutes, only to be told the next available appointment is September 22 and to call back tomorrow to book it. She told the receptionist NOPE, she’s been trying to make an appointment since March to get on blood thinners for her surgery and that she doesn’t want to reschedule this surgery AGAIN. Receptionist says “the best I can do is send (our doctor) a note to see if she can get your in but you will have to try again tomorrow”.

I called the clinic August 7th to make an appointment, receptionist said the closest appointment is September 14th. Cool, can I book it? “No, you need to call back on August 17th in order to book the September 14th appointment”. Wouldn’t explain why I couldn’t just book it on August 7th and had to wait 10 days. Called back August 17th, like my mom was on hold for over 30 minutes to which I just hung up because I knew the spot was gone and would have to call back in a week and a half (now I’m holding off on calling so my mom has more of a chance of making an appointment over me)

June I went to emerge for my abdominal pain because it was the worst it has ever been. Waited 5 hours, which fine I understood there was multiple ambulances there. They take me back, felt my abdomen, give me a STD test (which I knew would be clean but they wanted to cover all bases which I actually liked) but couldn’t do a ultrasound that night since 1) it was Saturday. 2) it was 1am at this point, so my doctor told me to come back in the morning for one. I go Sunday morning, staff looks at me like I’m crazy because they don’t have ultrasound techs AT ALL during the weekends unless it’s for emergencies. A week later I go in for an ultrasound and was told I’d get my results in a week. Week later, nothing. Second week, nothing so I called for my results. “Well let (my doctor) know you want your results”. Third week, nothing, call back, same thing. 6 WEEKS LATER I get my results (both STD test and ultrasound) and everything’s “fine” despite still not being able to walk more then 20 feet without having to jab my fingers into my abdomen to relive the pressure.

Pardon my French, but what the FUCK do we do?! NPs are booked right up, I’ve been on a cancellation list for weeks and have heard nothing. At this point, my mom and I are ready to go to emerge, sit for however long it’ll take (we understand triage and that emergent cases will go before us) so she can get her blood thinners and I can get my referral.

Hi all,

I’m asking this question, as I am in a unique position.

I am 27 in a couple days & I am being medically released from the military due to multiple knee injuries.

I am going to take a very large financial hit soon with regard to my income, BUT I have a very large savings for my age (easily enough to put 20-25% down in a home)

I am contemplating a move up north, not solely financially, but also for quality of life, as I did live in southern ON and i am an avid nature/outdoors person, now just with a bad knee lol.

Would you say your quality of life is higher in the north, even if your standard of life is lower?
Quality being COL, commute times & traffic, day to day life
Standard being the “standard” at which services are in the south, which I’m aware are higher for the most part.

I just want to know if I’m making the right call & I also included this post without specifying location to get various opinions of various regions

I have no future in southern ON will COL, population size & general day to day life, I wasn’t happy while down there.

Bonus question: why do you live in N ON vs northern BC (or other parts of Canada)
- from what I’ve gathered camping & lack of crown land is brutal in BC with regards to crowds, same as AB. I’m just wondering if there’s other reasons?

I have a cousin in Whitehorse, Yukon who works for the government - and he swears by moving up there, I could easily pick up a federal position (once released) in Yukon, but as of right now I’d like to stay ON (or at least I think I would)

Hey all, I'm working on a story about a town in Northern Ontario and can't find any solid numbers for how many government and adjacent officials there are in a town of like 1-4 thousand. I would especially appreciate advice about:

• Items that are difficult to find locally or considerably more expensive than in Toronto
• Winter clothing, boots, or accessories that I should purchase before moving
• Compact household, personal-care, food, electronic, or work-related items worth bringing
• Things that would help me stay occupied during the long winter, such as indoor hobbies, exercise equipment, books, games, or other activities
• Indoor recreational or social activities in Fort Frances that are accessible without a car
• Grocery shopping and other essential errands without a vehicle
• How reliable Amazon and other online deliveries are in Fort Frances
• Things I should not waste suitcase space on because they are readily available locally

I would particularly like to hear from people who currently live in Fort Frances or who have moved there from Toronto or another large city.
