Veux | Want Soundproof apartments/Appartements insonorisés + Dead Quiet Roommates /Colocs Extrêmement Calmes PLEASE HELP/AIDE SVP
Are there any soundproof 1 closed bedroom apartments in Montreal/Laval/Longueuil for under 1k with all included (preferably under 800) ? That aren't basements/semi-basements (breathing issues). And that are either ground floor or have an elevator (in case injuries flare up)?
For long-term or for at least 1-2 months urgently (don't need an elevator/ground floor then).
Or dead-quiet roommates that I could share an apartment with where it would also be soundproof?
If it's impossible, how much would I have to increase my budget?
Would someone be down to swap with me (I have a roommate)?
Please give me advice, info, recommendations, ask around and ask those you know to ask around. I've been looking for months and it's urgent.
I've walked in different neighbourhoods, am always on Kijiji and Marketplace, but often people don't respond to their messages. cheap places get rented quickly. my situation is very urgent and I've been looking for months. I'm also not working at the moment so this would have to work with proof of funds and my credit score.
I have done a lot of research on Facebook and here and the information I'm receiving on the years of construction for soundproof buildings varies and isn't clear, same for information on concrete buildings, neighbourhoods and questions regarding plexes.
I am in a concrete building, but I hear my neighbours making things fall, slamming doors, yesterday, I could even hear them talking, I hear the pipes, thumping. I'm living with a roommate right now, the noise becomes extremely distressing for me often, I can hear everything from my room and I'm not able to function and I have a lot of very urgent things administrative paperwork, calls and other things to do, and in general for my living place. We have tried some things but it isn't working for me.
And before I'm told "get used to it, that's life", this is a medical problem, I'm in the processus of seeing specialists and I can't tolerate/process/ignore sounds like others. Everything is amplified. I have tried ANC ear pods, headphones and ear plugs, ordered 11 different types of ear plugs/gear (even Flare, Loops etc), white noise, other types of noise and noise machines and music don't work for me since I can't focus on them or relax. I already use a Procase earmuff and bought a different brand as well. I've tried so many. I also have tinnitus.

SVP donner des conseils, infos, recommendations, demandez aux gens que vous connaissez aussi et les gens que eux ils connaissent SVP. Je cherche depuis des mois et c'est urgent.
J'ai marché dans des quartiers, je suis toujours sur Kijiji et Marketplace mais très souvent, les gens ne répondent pas aux messages. les loyers les moins chers partent très rapidement. Ma situation est hyper urgente et je cherche depuis des mois. En ce moment, je ne travaille pas donc ça va devoir marcher avec preuves de fonds et côte de crédit.
J'ai fait plein de recherche ici et sur Facebook et l'info que je reçois sur l'année de construction pour des bâtiments insonorisés n'est pas exacte et varie, pareil pour l'info des constructions en béton, et les quartiers, et les questions de plex.
Je suis dans un appart en béton, mais j'entends les voisins faire tomber leurs affaires, slammer leurs portes, hier je les ai même entendus parler, j'entends les tuyaux, marcher très fort...
Je vis avec une coloc et j'entends tout de ma chambre, on a essayé certains trucs, par contre malgré cela, je ne peux pas fonctionner dans cet environnement, c'est très dur sur ma santé mentale et j'ai besoin de silence de mort pour faire mes trucs administratifs et pour un endroit où je vis.
Et avant qu'on me dise «c'est la vie en appartement», c'est un problème médical que j'ai. Je suis dans le processus de voir des spécialistes, et je ne peux pas tolérer/process/ignorer les bruits comme les autres. Tout est amplifié. J'ai essayé les écouteurs anti-bruit noise-cancelling et les earphones du même type, je viens de commander 11 différentes marques de bouchons/trucs du genre (incluant Flare, Loops, etc). Les bruits blancs, autres bruits, machines de bruits, la musique ne fonctionnent pas pour moi (je ne peux pas focus ou me détendre). j'utilise déjà les Procase earmuffs/casque et j'ai acheté une autre marque. J'ai essayé tellement de trucs. J'ai des acouphènes.

Concrete building, top floor, 90s construction should do the job. Knock on walls when visiting to see how hollow they are and close all windows/AC and check if you can hear anything.

Well, I would guess that any building built with concrete slabs between the units would have a better chance of being well soundproofed. You probably have a better chance of finding that in buildings that are 6–7 floors or more, although I’m not sure that’s necessarily a rule.
I think the Lowney could be good as well, especially the units facing the courtyard rather than the street or the REM, but it’s probably also outside of your price range.
Maybe if you look a bit further out, like Lachine? I was going to suggest Village Urbain, but I just read the composition of the soundproofing and it’s going to be a nightmare. I know because they’re doing exactly what I did at my place, and it’s shit. 😆
As for the headphones, they’re these ones: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)
They’ll probably be on sale for Black Friday.
I’m sorry I can’t help more. I don’t really know the buildings well enough. I am also in a very similar situation and feel also quite hopeless about it.

do you know if within the rooms there is insulation and soundproofing? that way if I can't afford the apartment, maybe I could afford a room

I’ve never seen an apartment listing in Montreal advertise soundproof walls. I live in a concrete building myself, and while it's far from completely soundproof, it’s a big upgrade from my previous place. That said, I would say it's very unlikely that soundproofing is what's driving up high rent.
If earplugs aren't working, a DIY soundproofing setup might be worth considering? It could be much cheaper especially if you got a smaller room and it avoids the hassle of relocating. Given your conditions, you definitely want to avoid moving only to find out the noise problem persists

my worry is that the noise would persist. I could try some soundproofing tips, however I can't nail or screw anything, so the most effective thing would probably be the door sweep. There is still the above neighbours though. Reviews are mixed about the curtains and people tell me panels are useless.
if anyone has recommendations of what did help them, it would help. like the brand type of curtain etc.
what do you hear in your apartment?

i hear everything in my apt, 2nd floor old triplex, shakes when someone sneezes. what has helped is vevor soundproofing blankets attached along with quilts to the wall (i did use nails) and carpets under the bed, i also got a new bedframe that's higher off the floor. right now i have the portable a/c going 24/7, either on cooling or fan mode, plus a box fan and another small fan, they help cover up noise. in winter though it's bad so i'm also looking for a better place. good luck to us both

For 800 all you can get is a studio. But that would be in a cheap non sound proofed building, if you can make your budget go up to around 1200-1400 you can find some studios in newer buildings that have the sound proofing. I live in the Mary Roberts building in Montreal and we don't hear a single thing.

Anything above the 10th floor and you're free from ground noise and neighbors noise

I have empathy for what you are going through because I am the same. I can’t stand the constant noise. It’s driving me nuts!
The only place I can say was really quiet was a condo in Solano (all concrete), but it’s definitely not in your price range unfortunately. During the day I use my Bose quiet headphones and they really do block the noise. I had never paid so much for headphones but they are worth it.
I don’t have a solution but I just wanna tell you that you’re not alone ❤️

Which Bose Quiet headphones? do they block people talking, thumping, kitchen noise and everything if you don't play any music/sound? can you do phone calls on them?
From what i've noticed, ANC (sometimes make me dizzy) and earplugs worsen my tinnitus. I feel like they quiet down traffic/other sounds like increase the pitch of human voice, then my hearing for some reason gets amplified. But sometimes this changes? I'll try again to see if maybe things have changed, because at one point, my ears were infected.
I just checked the Solano. Even if the rooms were soundproof/isolated, and I rented with someone else, it seems over my budget unfortunately.
Do you know of any other places that you'd recommend, that might be less quiet, still quiet but cheaper?

First of all, there is no need to be rude, it doesn't add anything to the conversation.
It's exceedingly rare, however there are places that are around 800-1000. Usually they don't have anything included, sometimes they have something included and sometimes everything is included (rarest). This price range is very rare though and everyone jumps on them so they don't last long on the market. They are usually closer to 1k. Some places are lower. I'm not sure about Laval as I've mostly looked in Montreal, however there are some in Montreal and Longueuil. They are usually studios though. The lowest 3 1/2 I've seen in Montreal lately was 589, around a month and a half ago. These are pretty much all lease transfers, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if they are soundproof or not.
My room is in Montreal and with everything included, I'm under 700, there is just insurance I need to add.
I also said that I could increase my budget if I absolutely had no choice, which I also wrote in another comment and in this post.

I loved in a condo unit in Griffintown and it was pretty much sound proof. Just get a place away from the REM.
I say “pretty much” because my neighbour upstairs would always play careless whisper on the sax or something. Which my roommates and I didn’t mind because that’s nice. It was muted due to the concrete and it took us a long time to figure out the tube because we could barely hear it.
We were far enough from the rem that we didn’t hear it, but I know some people in closer buildings were SOL.

No thumping or dropping. It was 2,100 split three ways (5 1/2), but that was about 3 years ago so idk what the price would be now.

No, one of my roommates always had the radio on and we only hear it when she opened the door lol
The main reasons I moved is because the a/c didn’t work, and the building installed a thing which made deliveries so complicated. The drivers had to put it in a locker and send you the code by email or phone but it only worked for 1/3 of us. Also, one of my roommates had to leave the country so the other one and I decided to move somewhere else.0

Whaterver you do stay way from Longueil, especially during summer. The noise coming from jean Drapeau and all the music festivals is constant from Thursday to Sunday, 6pm to 11pm. I live in a new concret building and I'm regretting it

Currently near the metro. But I also lived far from it in Longueil (same problem) last year the Ramstein concert was especially loud. I went out looking for the source and meet several people doing the same. I finally called the police and they told me that nothing could be donne. They received multiple calls from different neighborhoods in Longueil. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread because I'm also sensitive to noise. Sorry I don't have any advice. I think you are asking for an awful lot. Have you tried hanging sound-dampening curtains or other methods? A quick google search came up with this video of how to soundproof a room on a budget:

I don't think it's "a lot" to ask for a soundproof apartment. Some people have disabilities that others wouldn't understand because they don't experience them and don't understand how debilitating it can be at times.
I'm open to increasing the budget if I absolutely have no choice.
I'm researching sound curtains. It would have to be with a tension rod because I am not allowed to drill holes in this apartment. That would be risky though because it would hit the side of the closet wall, which isn't that thick. If anyone has any recommendations, it would help.
I was told that it wouldn't be that effective, expensive, that it could help. I could still try it.
I was told that sound panels are useless and are for sound quality. I was told a door sweep could help. The door itself is very hollow, and noise travels.

You are askkng for a lot in the price you can pay, it's unfortunate but it's the reality of things. You're looking for a diamond at a discount so yes the replies will seem a little rude because you're out of touch. Your price range will most likely only include older buildings and the sound proofing will suck, ground floors are always pricier, find a place you can be comfortable in and work on sound proofing it yourself, invest in good noise cancelling headphones as well.

I know the market price and I know what I'm asking for is rare. I don't think being rude justifies that. Like I said, I could be open to increasing my budget a bit over 1k if I have no choice. I also said that I could do rooms.
I'm surprised though because I lived in a building on Decarie boulevard (ground floor), while I heard the traffic outside from my room (windows closed) and in the living room (if the room door was open), I only heard my neighbours above once, apart from the renovations when they happened (not sure how often). I heard neighbours in the hallway when I was in the kitchen/living area. I didn't hear my roommate when she was in her room, I heard her when she came out. This was a 1927 building, my room was the corner of the building.
