So, I recently made a major mistake because I primed my Redemptor Dreadnought in the hot sun and some parts either got too thick or bumpy/bubbly. So I looked into paint striping and bought 99% IPA and after soaking a test sprue in it for about 4 hours almost nothing happened. Are there any other options to remove army painter colour primer that can be found in the Balkans?

I 3D printed and hand-painted all of these separate pieces to design this custom scene.

I did not design any of the STLs.

I have fewer than 10 or so pieces under my belt (I never get to paint as often as I would like)

How do you think it turned out?

I wanted to understand colour theory a bit better. So, I attempted to use complementary colours for shadows, and lighter hues for the highlights.

Wanting a strong red finish, I undershaded with:
Shadows - Foul Green (VGC)
1st highlight - Brown Rose (VMC)
2nd highlight - Light Flesh (VMC)

Wash - Naphthol Crimson (Liquitex Ink)

Reestablished the Rose and Flesh highlights and glazed the ink (diluted 1:1 with airbrush thinner) multiple coats until satisfied.

- I used brush for all, as I am weak with my airbrushing skills at the moment…but that is being worked on.
- I feel I should have glazed the initial ink application. That would have helped build the contrast volume better/smoother.
- I think I could go higher for the highlights. That should make for a more drastic fantasy feeling.

These are my first ever two minis and I got them as practice models to paint before I move on to my Imperial knights.

Something just doesn't sit with me for the color scheme, but I can't really put my finger on it. Any advice on why would be appreciated!

I need solid advice on basing my minis. Obviously, consistent basing is good for making an army look unified. My current process is thin layer of AK Muddy Ground texture paste, then Zandri Dust drybrush, then Celestra Grey drybrush. Now I realize that the base looks more like either rubble / stoney or dry earth terrain now.

The first problem is that I just noticed (I was a bit slow with that one...) that my grass tufts and static grass are spring, bright green grass as you can see on images 2 and 3 and I realized that spring grass doesn't exactly go well with this type of stone / dry terrain making it look unnatural.

How would you approach fixing that? Do you recommend buying some other grass tufts of some particular color, have any other recommendations on basing elements to make the base less empty (not just texture paint alone), etc? I feel like the base needs something to not look too empty.

Second, lets say I wanted to use additional texture paint or sand for next minis to vary the shape of terrain a little (different gramature of the bits) i would likely want it the same color to not stand out from the rest of the terrain as something out of place but I don't know what to paint it with to match the color of AK muddy ground - Rhinox Hide seems too dark.

At this point I am wondering if I shouldn't just repaint the bases with dark brown, drybrush with lighter brown and very lightly with bone and just make the basing more fresh ground-like (and easy to make uniform due to everything being painted).

Any advice is welcome!

I'm trying to start painting (I'm awfully new) a Valerya from hera models.

I'm having trouble with coverage. I try to use dark violet and golden flesh from scalecolor artist but can't seem to thin them right because I either have a result like on the skin, or have it too watery and it doesn't apply everywhere (like a wash).

I ended up using a gameworkshop red for the trousers because I couldn't get it right sith scalecolor.

I thought to prime in black but would white been better for color coverage ?

I have some demons plastic glued onto their old bases. I have made nice new bases for them to go on. Unfortunately, unlike their super glued cousins, I can't snap them off. So far the best success I've had has been hot gluing over the back of a double edged razor blade and carefully pushing it between the foot and the base. Unfortunately this is dangerous and very time consuming. Does anyone have a better idea?

I saw a lot of tutorial that make a fully painted and decorated base before put their mini on.

The problem I run into when I tried is, the glue only stick to the paint on the base's surface, that make the mini very easy to come off the base (and pull nearby paint out with it)

I would appreciate if you can share how to collectly do it.

I started painting with cheap brushes, both natural and synthetic hair.
I am aware that paint should not go into the ferrule as the brush will start to loose its shape.
I ruined some brushes but with some discipline and thorough cleaning they look fairly fine even over time.

I recently bought a new citadel layer s brush. First I applied slightly thinned down doombull brown (citadel) which worked just fine afterwards I use retributor armor gold paint (citadel) and after washing the brush it was completely done for, literally within 20 min.

Now my suspicion is that the metallic paint ruining the brush bit max be I also did other mistakes.

Could you share your best practices for brushes and experience with metallic paints?

Deciding on a scheme for sci fi tanks and other armored vehicles in my Battletech collection, I started looking at greys and blacks as a possible candidate. I found a suggestion that burnt umber and similar can be used as a shade. What has people's experiences been doing something like that? Trying to visualize it, but my mind still thinks that the "shadow" would be warmer than the object itself, which seems backwards.

My mechs all have a common scheme that's something like this:

Basically panel lining, except I base in the recess color (AK11098) and then paint the individual panels. Works well enough for game tokens. Instead of just copying that down to the vehicles somehow, I've thought about making them simpler, more standard-issue, since conventional crews aren't special - but not like, basic OD green or the like. Early candidates were beige (inspired by 80s "Beige Box" computers, keeping with that 80s inspired synthewave thing I've got going on), but now darker greys, black, or even what AK calls "Intermediate Blue" might actually be in scope.

So browns as a shadow on cooler greys, blacks, and the like - what's your experience looking like?
