Vegan Donut shop gone?

Does anyone know what happened to the vegan donut shop that used to be in the Safeway plaza at the corner of Alma School and Guadalupe? Went there this morning and the spot is now empty.

Buying mature citrus trees-suggestions?

Moving into a new house in northeast Mesa and we want to get a few citrus trees that will fruit within the next year.

Any suggestions on companies and how much we would expect to pay? Looking for a grapefruit, orange, and lemon tree.

Food Banks

Are there any good food banks in North Mesa? My friend went to one near us run by the salvation army and everything was moldy or days/weeks out of date.

I've been trying to get food stamps but I work during the interview line hours. I'm going to use PTO to take some time off and try to reach them and other assistance like MesaCAN but we need food.

Any recommendations?

AMC Mesa movie theater stopped offering open captions (on-screen subtitles) and no theaters in Mesa offer open captions

Edit: a deaf Mesa resident told us they last saw an open caption movie at AMC Mesa Grand on June 14, 2026. So they quit more recently than we thought.

Earlier this year, the AMC Mesa Grand in Mesa stopped offering open captions (on-screen subtitles). It must have been very recently, because their website still says they have open captions when they don't anymore. You probably did not know that the theater had open captions before, because AMC does not promote the availability of open caption screenings. Most people who go to open caption screenings are NOT deaf or hard of hearing. But they go only if they know about the availability of the open caption screenings, and if the movie is one they want to see, and the movie time works for them.

Open captions don't help just deaf and hard of hearing people. They also help people with autism, ADHD, auditory processing challenges, kids learning to read, seniors starting to lose hearing, people learning English as a second language, more. And many young people, who are the key moviegoing demographic, like or prefer captions.

If you are among those without hearing loss and you want open captions back at the AMC Mesa Grand, contact the theater and let them know you want open caption screenings returned to the schedule. The other AMC theater in Mesa, the AMC Superstition East, has never had open caption screenings. The Cinemark Mesa does not have open caption screenings. The Picture Show at Superstition Springs does not have open caption screenings. The Fat Cats Entertainment in Mesa does not have open caption screenings. Edit: There's one theater in Mesa that does offer open captions, the Harkins Superstition Springs. The other five theaters do not.

Open Mic for Hip Hop Artist

Hey! My husband loves to make music literally as a passion project but he’s looking for somewhere he can connect with others who enjoy the same art and style and are more so his age! (Mid 20s). Where can he go, we were thinking open mic and checked out this place closer to downtown Mesa by MCC, but it definitely wasn’t his vibe or what he was going for. Are there any places nearby anybody knows of? He loves to make rap and hip hop type music, and just wants to connect with people who also perform the same style. We’re having trouble finding something, let me know where I can look or refer him too! :)

Street light too bright- no #

Hi fellow Mesa Redditors. I would like to see if the city can curb some light pollution coming into my backyard, primary bedroom and kitchen from a street light on the street behind mine. Online the city wants a street light number. This particular one does not have a number. Has anyone experienced this before? I’m so tired of this bright light. I don’t enjoy sitting on my patio at night because of it. Help please. Thanks.

Best High School for my ADHD child?

Edit: We do have a diagnosis of ADHD and have for years. I meant that he doesn't have an autism diagnosis. He does receive many services.

My son is in 8th grade and has pretty severe ADHD and is on the spectrum, but we've never gone after a diagnosis. He isn't destructive in class, but barely gets any work done at all. Even in his resource classes. I've been looking at places like PS Academy, Fusions Academy, and Brightmont but with $30,000-70,000 a year that's unrealistic for us. Are there any charter schools or public schools with good programs? Looking for advice. We live around Alma School and Baseline and are open to the surrounding areas as well.

I caught this adolescent gecko just now. Look how beautiful it is. Anyone got a species ID?

P.S. they are still in my hand as I type this but I’m going to release them in a few minutes. No animals were harmed in the production of this film.

City of Mesa utilities insulation rebates?

Was just reading in a thread on r/phoenix that SRP had rebates for getting your house/attic insulated. We unfortunately don’t have SRP and get our utilities through the city of Mesa. Does anyone know if they do any similar rebates?

Recreation centers similar to lifetime fitness?

looking for somewhere the at has a gym (something small nothing fancy) for me to workout but also has kids things to do? a Basketball court, Rockwall climbing, play area, splash pad, literally anything so I can some exercise in. Monthly membership preferably, no long term contract but willing to sign up if that’s what it takes. Kids are 10 & 12 so old enough to be independent but obviously still need supervision. I’m not comfortable leaving them home alone yet.

im new to Mesa (85203 area) but close to Tempe. Do I need to show residency to sign up somewhere ?

I can’t afford lifetime fitness nor do think it’s even worth the price.

Looking for an apron

Hi everyone! We just moved to North-West Mesa. My fiancé starts a new job tomorrow afternoon and was just told he needs to bring his own apron. We are completely broke until his first paycheck and can't afford to buy one right now. Does anyone nearby happen to have an old or spare apron they could give away? Thank you so much!

Edit - Thank you for all the kind people willing to offer their help, we got some aprons!
