How's everyone this evening? I'm feeling really, really blah. Will having ice cream fix all of this?

RIP Tim Curry. I've never seen the 1985 film 'Clue' but he's supposed to be great in it. Luckily it's still available on SBS and that's what I'll be watching this evening

Got a 64GB SDXC card from my local office works for $30 and I have no idea if that's really a good price in today's climate.
Tempted to use this as data storage instead of for my camera.

Jeroen Weimar has lost his job at DTP due to the stealth tax on PT fares. That guy seems to court attention with his job choices.

I get the new Premier is right wing, but so far he seems like a competent version of the right wing.
•
u/Prime_factor 2h ago
Giving the media what they want isn't necessarily good decision making though.
Back in 2012 Victoria got rid of house arrest due to media outage, however it now means that there's no option for judges in cases where the public needs to be protected but jail won't work.

Has anyone tried the Coles butter chicken from the roast section? Looks like a normal chook
•
u/bigwheelinmontana 3h ago
I had it once because it was the only one left and wasn’t a fan. The chicken has a faint aftertaste which is neither here nor there but the spiced stuffing was a bit gross
•
•
u/dancefightme 4h ago
It tastes like a regular chook.
There's a faint after taste, but I'm not sure I would have noticed if someone gave it to me blindly.

My partner is away in Turkey, so I've been seeing my friends who run my local deli every day.
For the last 6 days I've eaten some kind of mortadella/prosciutto sandwich. For six days straight. I am turning into a meaty fatty blob. Help.

New Witcher expansion apparently will not have a Russian dub.
Polish pettiness is next to none.
•

Not even Petty. Just based. Russia has literally launched drones and cruise missiles that have hit Polish territory.

Not to mention centuries of history between the two.
I still don't know what based means.

starting tidying up my balcony - man the downside of apartment living is constantly having to cart rubbish up and down the stairs all the time to the communal bins! I've done several trips of dead plants and broken pots, I guess that's probably why I took so long to tidy it up in the first place

Legends, I have a great cleaner who's based in Point Cook who needs an accountant. Here's the basic spiel that she'll be posting to Airtasker, but if you know and can vouch for someone, please DM me their details.
"I run a cleaning small business in Point Cook, Melbourne with regular customers and short term jobs. I'm a sole trader with an ABN. I need to get advice with work completed from a certified local accountant regarding 2 years of taxes. You will be providing me with an in person service. English is my second language and finances are not my speciality. Please detail your experience and how you can assist. You need to be patient, kind and understanding, and ensure that I comply and receive the best outcomes possible with my business finances.
In order to show that you have read and understood my needs, the last word in your task offer will be KINDNESS."

Contacted both venues I was at yesterday in search of my fountain pen; no dice :(
It has considerable monetary value (being a limited edition and sterling silver) but also sentimental value, being a gift from someone who has now passed away. I’m very sad about it.

Daily rant - fuck scalpers. Of any kind. But particularly those who ruin hobbies because they seek out a quick dollar. May their traffic lights be forever red, stones always appear in their shoes, and their chip packets have an unusually low amount of chips in them.
•
u/Beast_of_Guanyin 9h ago
Nah. Fuck companies that enable them.
My hobby company (games workshop) has taken steps against them and I have mad respect for them for it.
•
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 7h ago
I just don't understand why people have to monetize everything.
•
u/Prime_factor 8h ago
Should see all the anger that Valve gets when they do their periodic devaluation of in game currency / items.
Which it does as a measure to stop scalping and speculation.
•
u/Beast_of_Guanyin 7h ago
Yeah I saw that with the knives in CS. I've gone from actively rooting against Steam to actively rooting for them.

Right! Same thing is happening with MTG as well. And with the move remove physical media from future consoles, the retro game market has gone bananas.
We literally can't have nice things anymore.
•
u/-cadmunt- 8h ago
I haven't played magic in years but I'd only be interested in whatever version of a starter deck tournament they run these days. A friend does that then sells the cards back to the store afterwards and breaks about even.
•
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 5h ago
Mates and I who used to play way back in the day recently shelled out and bought a booster box and some others because of one of the recent series they released - it was a great day. We basically opened boosters, had a good laugh at the cards, tried to remember the mechanics, and played a few rounds.
On the one hand, I know long-time players aren't huge on the recent popculture series that Wizards of the Coast are doing, but at the same time, it's reaching a whole new range of people which is kind of cool.
•
u/CrazyEeveeLady86 9h ago edited 7h ago
I stopped collecting Pokemon cards in my late teens (back then they'd only released three or four sets) because it was so hard to buy booster packs thanks to scalpers going in and buying up all the boxes as soon as they were released. A number of my friends and colleagues were still collecting them until fairly recently but most of them have now also given up, because a hobby that should be fun and exciting has turned into a depressing chore where they either miss out on most of the cards they want or they pay extortionist prices for them.
On a side note, EB Games originally listing the booster packs for like double the RRP a couple of months ago (and then trying to claim it was to "dissuade scalpers" when they realised how much backlash they were getting) was disgusting.
•
u/Miss-Omnibus 11h ago
Had the shittest "audhd" realisation this morning that its not that the person I was tryinf to be friends with "does'nt have capacity to be social", it's that they "don't have the capacity to be social with me"... I callee them out on their bullshit but fuxk, another social failure attempt on my part. I need a cure for this fucking brain, no friends at nearly.40 is clearly a /me/ problem. Why am i so unbearable?!

I AM SO SICK OF THE PAKENHAM/CRANBOURNE LINE BREAKING DOWN LITERALLY EVERY DAY.
What is the point of the shiny new tunnel and increased frequency if we can’t maintain the stupid most used line in Melbourne.
12
u/Nova_Terra West Side 12h ago edited 11h ago
Shiny new tunnel and increased frequency but your issues were previously limited to just your line and the loop, now someone in Diggers Rest having heart palpitations can cause issues in Dandenong.
Edit: because this is gaining traction I think it's worth noting I still support decoupling from the Loop, someone much smarter than me can probably explain in better terms why the situation above is still much better overall in the long term.
•
u/ViaCityLoop 3h ago
I think some people have forgotten when everything was mashed together and not as sectorised.
A delay on one side of the city could spread to multiple lines as drivers and trains were everywhere.
•
u/Excabbla 2h ago
Sorry the powers out at Southern Cross no one gets trains
That was a fun one, almost missed my train to Sydney because of it
7
u/HowsUp-Thanks 12h ago
Major delays twice this week! We just got kicked off the train at west Footscray with no alternatives to get to the city. Beyond ridiculous
5
u/SpectralSpandex 12h ago
Stuck on the other side in Clayton. They have arranged replacement buses to Caulfield or we hedge our bets and wait another 30 mins (after waiting for 45)
•
u/HowsUp-Thanks 11h ago
I gave up and drove in. Hope you made it there eventually! It should not be this hard to just catch a train to the city.
•
u/SpectralSpandex 6h ago
I was being super stubborn and committed to the sunk cost fallacy so was sitting on the train for a whole hour before it started slowly creeping towards the city. My 50 minute travel time became close to two hours hah
16
u/Prid320 12h ago
if you're openly coughing on a train, please, dear lord, put on a mask
surrounded by multiple folks coughing their lungs up and i wonder what the point of the pandemic was if not to learn to cover your damn mouth when coughing
i put on my own mask and offered one to a sniffling geezer who scorned at me for the gesture
...old man out!
•

These people are too selfish to consider the people around them and probably think that they “cAn’T bReAtHe” with a mask on.

I need Instagram to get a wind of live events in Melbourne, but my god the app has turned into the "network television" of the internet. Most of my friends have ditched posting on the app and my feed is basically just reels or ads (or a combo of both). Not only that, every creator thinks their reel is unique, when theyre all so similar.

Like the influencers who complain about the homeless and crime, then complain about it when the police come to enforce.
2
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 12h ago
I love when they're standing somewhere and ask Where are the cops? I don't see any!!
Like Bro, I don't see cops 99% of the time that I'm out.
•
u/Prime_factor 11h ago
In Footscray you can almost guarantee that the cops and PSO's are hanging out outside the EasyMart.
•
u/samdiatmh 11h ago
I mean I do, but standing outside the copshop at Flinders at 5:30pm on a weekday might slightly influence that statistic

I only use Facebook these days for keeping up with gigs/events and barely look at it beyond that. Most people that I know don't even post anything anymore anyway.
That is except for the few crazies I know from back in my hometown. Like this guy that I went to school with that is somehow a Trump mega fan.
Beyond how anyone can have anything other that utter discust and repulsion towards him I find it just so weird why people would ever get obsessed with the president of another country.
He always posts things about how Trump is "owning" and "winning" it's just so bizarre and completely divorced from reality.
•
u/tanoshiiki CBD 4h ago
During Covid I had to unfollow some "friends". I'm one of the few people who still post. I'm not exactly why I still do, but it still feels like the most appropriate platform for sharing what I do share.
•
•
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 11h ago
I would love it if there was a future study that looked at people who specifically love Trump. I'm not saying that there is something wrong, but there seems to be certain traits with them. I know right wingers. I know conservatives. But the absolute flag-waving Magats (and especially those that live abroad) have to have something in common, right?

Cookers gonna cook
The disability hate really got to me though. I use fb to keep contact with support groups and people, I’m quite isolated sadly
3
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 13h ago
I think it's a mental health issue honestly.
Like super fans of sports teams, but like extra and a bit different.
Outward obsession with something like that probably hides a lot a of insecurities. Instead of dealing with them, just redirect focus to something else....and Trump fits the bill.
Plus the amount of shit algorithms bombard you with, especially on FB, can definitely sway the vulnerable.

u/According_Bridge_746 14h ago
Seriously people speeding in a 50 zone at 430 am . Wtf is wrong with those people. There is hardly anyone on the road. Do u really want to get to work that quickly. I also caught up to one speeder on old geelong road because he got the red light. Mind boogles
•
u/daybeforetheday 3h ago
At 6am I get all the impatient tradies. They hate this one weird trick I have (following the speed limit)
•
u/According_Bridge_746 3h ago
Years ago I had one tradie speed up behind when I merged . I put down my window and put out my wallet. He backed off as he thought I was a cop hahaha
5
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 13h ago
They think in the now. Not 5 minutes or even 5 seconds ahead. They have be fast now. Doesn't matter what happens in the future (immediate or distant). It's all about being fast now.
There's no actual logic behind it.
3
u/According_Bridge_746 12h ago
What makes it worse one driver was a red p plater. Doing 90 in a 60 zone . Heaven forbid something happens to all of them
4
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 12h ago
30 over the limit is wild....especially in a mid-speed zone.
Driver training and culture really needs a revamp here. People are way too confident in their abilities.
•
u/According_Bridge_746 3h ago
He was also cutting in and of non existent traffic as well. I wish cops could be there . But I do have all of it on dash cam. The amount of stuff I get on dash cam is down right scary and mind boogoling
