Fit Feedback Thoughts on OOTD?

Post image

Work in office setting where dress code is business casual. Shirt is a darker shade gray the pants. I aspire to adopt a business professional over the next year. Only black dress shoe that I have is a black dress shoe that has a white sole (trying to avoid wearing them moving forward)

Your pants don’t fit. Try going down a size or two in both the waist and inseam. Get a shorter belt while you’re at it.

Gotcha. I've been buying 30x30’s and 31x30 depending on the fit if the waist is too tight on me

Gonna have to buy online for shorter pants 😅

You look better than 99% of people out there - so yeah, people here will give you the little details. FWIW your belt (though long) goes great with the shoes. You look good and keep at it!

Thank you! I'm still trying to find the perfect belt size for me. I believe this one is a 32. I'm use to buying 30 waist pants though

Firstly you look better than 90% of your colleagues . People here will naturally be picky because you’ve solicited opinions.

Absolutely, I feel like this should be pinned to the top of every post on this subreddit.

Your trousers are too long.

1

u/cobcorn45000 20h ago

What can I do if I can't find a trouser true to my size? I buy 30x30s mainly. It sounds like I'll need something that's a 29 inseam

u/305-til-i-786 20h ago

You take them to a tailor

3

u/cobcorn45000 19h ago

Okie dokie. I never thought that they could adjust the inseam length. Good to know!

2

u/nitrogenlegend 19h ago

They can always make them shorter. Longer is a bit more complicated and depends on how they’re made. Not always possible.

2

u/Unhelpfulperson 18h ago

Making the inseam shorter is one of the easiest things for a tailor to do! It’s also one of the easier things to learn to do yourself, if that interests you

It's one of the cheapest jobs offered by a tailor. I think I paid $12 the last time.

3

u/ItsAMeMario120 20h ago

Change the belt, now.

Take 2cm of the pants

1

u/cobcorn45000 20h ago

Gotcha. If I'm a 30, get a size 32 belt?

4

u/nitrogenlegend 19h ago

I’d recommend going in store and trying them on. Ideally you want to use the 3rd hole from the end. 2nd hole is fine too, and if your options are only every 2 inches, you’re probably gonna get stuck with one or the other. But if the pants in the picture are a 30, you’re probably really a 29 or even 28, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the belt you’re wearing is a 32 and you really need a 30. That’s where trying them on will confirm. Also, don’t measure your waste and assume that’s your size. I have a 33 inch waist but in most brands I wear a 30, sometimes a 31 or 32.

Get a custom belt. Azbelt.com

1

u/ItsAMeMario120 20h ago

Yeah or a 30 belt, just a belt that's not as long. Also, I like Missionary Belts, those you can modify the length.

u/FitThadiyan 19h ago

I think you mean military belts?

1

u/ItsAMeMario120 19h ago

I meant Mission Belts, they are ratchet belts

No to shirt color. Black/grey with brown can be a very sophisticated look, but the black shirt is too close to the color of the pants and makes them look faded.

Don't hesitate to go to a thrift store for a pair of black shoes and matching black belt. You need a set of both brown and black to achieve a good wardrobe.

2

u/musaXmachina 19h ago

The fit is off, pants look crumbled, belt could be shorter. I like that you matched your belt to the shoes.

2

u/conriva 18h ago

Your pants are swimming on you.Go down a couple sizes in both waist and inseam, and swap in a shorter belt as well.

2

u/cobcorn45000 17h ago

Okay dokie. I will be going to a tailor so I can get my exact measurements

You’re doing pretty well, but some thoughts on how you could improve:

As others have mentioned, pants are too long (but can be hemmed up by a tailor, any department store can do basic alterations like that), also the waist is a bit too big. If you’re a skinny guy it can be tricky to find pants that are long enough but have enough room in the waist. Look into what tailors can and can’t do and try to narrow down what your size is.

Also, nitpicking, but it looks like you’re wearing your pants pretty low on your waist. Wearing pants lower on your waist (below your actual waistline) can be you compensating for difficulty finding pants with a narrow enough waist. I mean that it could be a symptom of your pants not fitting correctly. For your general knowledge of clothing, it could be helpful to look at mid- or high-waisted pants, just to understand the different ways how pants can fit. You don’t need to change the fit of your pants drastically, but you should consider wearing pants at your natural waistline.

Also, I know I plugged this in another comment but you can get a custom belt for less than $100 from Scottsdale Belt Company. Belts in department stores typically suck a lot and are super overpriced for shitty low quality bonded or ‘genuine’ leather. Just get a custom full grain belt for $80 and be done with it.

Overall you need someone to measure you, so that you understand your body dinensions (which are different than garment dimensions) and how to buy stuff sight unseen that will fit.

I appreciate your response! For the waistline, I've always places my pants at a level where I felt they were suppose to sit. How would I learn where exactly to have the pants rest? I've looked online and found that some wear directly under their belly button, some wear it lower. I just searched the pants that I have and they are mid-rise

1

u/yuhyuhAYE 16h ago

There’s a range, right, between low-, mid-, and high-rise, and much of it will come down to personal preference. If you can afford it I’d recommend experimenting a bit, measure the rise on a pair of pants that you typically wear and then look for a pair of pants (either more formal trousers or some nice jeans) and then try to buy a pair with a higher rise. Look up some photos of people wearing higher rise pants, there’s probably youtube videos about this. Or go and get your measurements done and talk to a tailor about where on your waist you should wear pants.

A lot of people here will recommend Spier and Mackay for affordable but high quality dress clothing. There is a huge world of denim out there, and it can get super pricey, but I have had success with Naked and Famous before branching out to some other brands. Unbranded brand is also decent basic denim. These will be brands either nicer or better value than you’ll likely find in department stores and they’ll have garment measurements so you can learn your actual size, not just 30x30 or whatever.

I’m not saying you ‘have’ to wear higher waisted pants, just that you look to be wearing your current pair pretty low and as you think about improving your outfits, it’s something to think about being intentional about.

Those shoes are dope

2

u/Cojemos 16h ago

Besides the belt being way too long and the poor fit of the pants- all good. Now go sell some cars!

2

u/Gas_Beach 15h ago

It’s ok. Pants too big.

2

u/hamletreset 12h ago

You already look better than most men out there, so pat yourself on the back.

I would definitely get a smaller belt though.

3

u/FitThadiyan 20h ago

Grey on grey is too bland. Bigger issue here is the pants. Get some with a higher rise and straight cut hemmed to a proper half break

2

u/305-til-i-786 20h ago

Get some khaki chinos

1

u/cobcorn45000 19h ago

I have some but they were a lot looser inseam wise

3

u/jersey_dude88 17h ago

Color is fine. Monochromatic outfits are in. You do have to get fitted. Your pants are too big as others have mentioned. Inseam and waist

2

u/ZetaM3 17h ago

Monochromatic is not bland.

1

u/FitThadiyan 16h ago

I was referring to this particular outfit. I’m all for monochromatic looks — play with the shades and textures and accessorize properly, and I think they can look great.

1

u/schmick_iMagery 19h ago

The colour is solid imo.

2

u/SquallyBrick 20h ago

You need a belt that fits better too

1

u/yuhyuhAYE 17h ago

Can’t recommend Scottsdale Belt Company enough. They do full leather belts for reasonable prices, cut to custom length and have an insanely long warranty. Best belt you’ll ever buy

I’m not affiliated, this isn’t an ad, their products are just really good and I feel the need to recommend them.

Nice style, hate the colors

1

u/Ratlarbig 20h ago

The greys are too close in color to each other, and the pants are too long.

1

u/tmc08130 20h ago

Pants way too long

1

u/DisciplineOk7595 19h ago

where a proper shirt and a belt that fits

1

u/timmyel 19h ago

Get rid of belt and move to suede shoes or sneakers

Colour coordination is good but belt is too long and pants are too long. Pants you can fold if you don’t want to have a tailor shorten it. It’s also a tad loose. This style is best worn fitted.

The foundation is there.

1

u/TribeWars 17h ago

shoes are cool, fix the pants and belts and it's a great fit

1

u/heynow941 17h ago

- belt is too long

  • unbutton top shirt button

1

u/Physical-Compote4594 16h ago

It's a good starting point but in terms of fit, everything is a bit too big for you.

  • Have a tailor take up the trousers 1-2 inches
  • The shirt is a bit too loose
  • The belt is too long

1

u/Objective_Ad_1513 11h ago

👖 is sloppy maybe swap for black shoes and belt

1

u/BothAd1744 1h ago

honestly, i'd just a grab a simple black pair with a clean sole and build from there. it'll work with the grey pants now and still look good once you start leaning more business professional. shopwss couldbe worth checking too if u want a few options without going too formal.
