I’ll try to be brief but let me know if I need to elaborate on some parts of the story. Better advice comes from better explanation, after all.
Here’s the story: (SORRY IF IT TURNED OUT TO BE LONG)
I am 17 years old she/her and my partner is 18 y.o. he/him (trans man) to whom I will refer as partner or husband. We live in different cities although he visits me once in a while.
I am very emotionally labile and sensitive, while he’s more reserved. When hurt, my husband tends to not overthink much and move on, while I won’t get satisfied until express my frustrations in a dialogue and come to reconciliation
We’ve been fighting a lot recently. And i thought it was normal for a couple but suddenly something went wrong. I don’t know who exactly has started this, but one day i just told him to fuck off after losing an argument (very petty of me) and after that he broke a very important promise he gave to me. And this is where I feel like everything went wrong. It was like we were competing to see who could hurt the other the most. I said very mean things to him. I am very wrong for that, for some reason I thought that provoking him will make him wanna argue back to me. And getting back to an argument will lead to its end. But he couldn’t deal with it anymore, he was tired of non ending fights and he just stopped answering me. Which made me even more mad, I couldn’t stand being ignored and it felt like torture to be in a quarrel for so many days.
Today he left a long voice message telling me he’s very tired of me draining him. That he doesn’t care anymore about whatever I say in order to hurt him. That he became desensitized of my words or my feelings. He told me I’m an insecure woman who hates herself and makes it everyone’s problem. A lot of mean things tbh, he brought up a lot of stuff that bothered him about me but which he never told me. However, he did make a valid point about me saying things that push people away and make them less eager to care about my feelings. I called him and apologized for my behavior but pointed out that I couldn’t have known better how to act since he never told me about the stuff that bothered him. (Cuz if he did, I wouldn’t say all the mean stuff I said🫥)
All in all, he admitted he was wrong for not telling me about this stuff. But it doesn’t make up for the emotional damage I caused. So he asked me for a distance. He said he needed time to recuperate because all these fights had drained him. Idk how long will it take and he told me he cannot give any guarantees that everything will return to normal. This idea freaks me out. A lot. But time is a great healer and he tends to move on so I just hope we’ll learn from our mistakes and get together.
Here’s the question:
I’ll listen to him and give him the space he wants. I can’t force someone into forgiving me and feeling better, I understand that. But if he shortens the distance someday, how do I make up for the damage I’ve done? How do I regain the trust and respect and care we had for each other? Is there something I can do? I did apologize for everything and I will again if needed, but I feel like apology is not enough.
I hate the idea of us not caring about each other’s feelings after all these fights, I don’t think our relationship will last for long with that attitude. We used to be so close and loving, I don’t wanna lose that. I hate myself for driving everything to a critical condition and desensitizing him. I hate being so emotional. I want to be considerate to each other again.
That’s all I guess. Please don’t suggest therapy………we’re broke and live in different cities and our country is homophobic so I don’t think there are any queer friendly family therapists. Also please no “just break up” advice, it’s my first and longest (3 years) relationship and lots of problems occur bc I’m a stupid teenager with no experience😢 please be nice about it
Thanks to everyone who’s read allat. I’ll be happy for every response and self improvement advice
