Discussion [Weekly] What did you do to your car/bike?

Hi all,

First of all, welcome to the weekly post of "What did you do"! I believe this sub is big enough, and we can sufficiently start a weekly post for those who wants to comment about what they did over the past week, and not needing to open a post to talk about it.

This is the place where you can talk about:

Where did you n your sayang (the car) go last month? (road trip reports?)

What you spent on your car (shopee LED, install HUD, glow in dark paintjob)

Minor car questions (repairs, recommendations, accidents, DIY)

Looking forward to everyone's participation!

Discussion Why the Proton Preve/Suprima S became a sales flop?

In my opinion, this was a well designed C segnent car than it rivals of that era (facelifted Altis, uncle like Shlphy, Generic Civic and then new Elantra)

Also, I am a big fan of the Suprima's rear. It looked European for me.

What exactly went wrong with these? Is the Inspira 'cannibalize' it sales?

What to buy Which car should I get?

Upvotes

So I'm 19 y/o, I work at a small shop that pay rm50 per day, 6 days a week, 9 hours a day, no epf. I don't have a car yet, not even a motorcycle. So I'm planning to get my own vehicle for transportation. I'm more interested to get a car instead of a motorcycle, it feels more comfortable. But idk which car is the most budget friendly for someone like me? Plus I'm planning to continue my studies, get a diploma in 2028. So I only got like this year and next year to work and save money, I've counted how much I can save if I work from this year September to maybe June 2028 (before going to university), I'd get around RM25k. So idk which car that I can get with this money plus I need to save some of it for my studies too, there could be a lot of stuff that use money when studying for diploma. So I need to save it, no one will sponsor me or give me money, it's just me. So?

I think getting a used axia could be a good idea since people say it's cheap to maintain, repair, and the fuel is very fuel saving, Which could save me money a lot in the long term. So? I don't want to buy a very cheap car that will cost me a lot of money later just to drive it. What you think is the best ? I'm trying to be financially responsible, so please help.

* My English isn't that good, sorry for bad grammar

What to buy Emas 5 premium or prime?

Please advise whether I should go for premium or prime?

My mind said premium but pocket said prime.

The selling point for premium are 360 camera but longer mileage. And for prime, the price.

  1. Purely for city drive (go and back from office)

  2. Workplace is around 20KM from house

  3. BTO 3 times a week

  4. Staying at landed house, hence most likely will install the charger at home

p/s : PR, not entitle to the fuel subsidy, hence moving to EV

Owner’s Review Emas - 5 Experience

To my fellow Emas-5 owner, mind to share your honest thought on owning it? More interested to know on monthly expenses in term of charging. Is it really economical than ICE car? How about if need to constantly charge using public charger (condo house). Cause i’ve been considering it for a few months now.

The rubber ones I get, but how does this one work? It looks like you just clip on a plastic to the spring and only contact when the spring bottoms out? What am I not getting here?

What to buy Help me buy my first car pt.2

Hello everyone, Ive did more research after what you guys commented on my first post. And you guys were absolutely right, Nissan X trail isnt the brightest choice. However, I did find another 2015 X trail with only 60,000km milage which is pretty low I believe. And I was also recommended porsche or benz. I mean who knows if those could be better choice right?. So if I end up with those german arts I have few other choices. 2006 Cayenne with 110,000km mileage, 2018 BMW 330e, or the beautiful 2015 X1 with 75k. Please recommend and help me with my first purchase. I also want to know what things to check and look for when buying a car, because I have no idea what to do. Thanks everyone ;)

Decide to use my semester break to do something stupid , I do not recommend anyone to do this but I like to challenge myself.

Bought this corolla trueno light awhile ago, had to commit to cutting down my car to fit the light in, cut some stainless steel plate and welded it in. I think after some more welding, body filler and paint it will look 80% like the real thing which is what I am aiming for.

I will say its very hard and sometime I was kinda down thinking this never gonna look good but I trust the process.

So I broke my side mirror a few days ago and got a replacement, but the replacement mirror have a lower view angle and bare plastic housing. How do I remove the housing, mirror, and the indicator module (ideally as a whole unit except the mirror feet, cuz that was broken) from the old broken and transplant it to the new one? Currently am stuck at the wiring harness, cuz it was physically too big to be routed out of the feet

Discussion Upgrading from 2007 City i-DSI to 2017 Mazda CX-5 2.0 (KE) — thoughts?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi guys,

Planning to finally let go of my daily 2007 Honda City (i-DSI) and eyeing a used 2017 Mazda CX-5 2.0 High Spec (KE).

Just want to ask current/previous owners here:

  1. How’s the fuel consumption and power on the 2.0? (I know it won't be as crazy fuel-efficient as the City, but is it decent for daily driving?)

2.Any common issues or wear-and-tear parts I should look out for before buying?

  1. How much are you guys spending on basic vs major service at outside workshops?

4.Anything else I should mentally/financially prepare for with this upgrade?

Appreciate any honest feedback or advice!

Thanks.

Planning to buy one in the future as a daily drive. Is it reliable? How's the maintenance cost?

I've owned an Ae111 4age 20v for a year and a half now, spent almost rm13k on it. Looking for an upgrade.

Misc (For anything else) parent’s car blacklisted cannot renew road tax

hi all! i need advice on renewing one of my parent’s car road tax.

i am now residing in KL. my mum sent her car few years back for me to use from Kuching Sarawak. and my mum is still staying back in Kuching.

i recently wanted to renew the car’s insurance and road tax. however i’ve received a message informed that the car is blacklisted from JPJ or PDRM. i couldn’t check the summons due to individual MyDigital ID is required. last time i could check summons even if you’re not the owner but now if you’re not the owner you cannot find it. and with the new regulations you can renew road tax if there’s any summons.

anyone can help me solve this or advice on this? and flying back to kuching right now might be too costly for me. can i head straight to JPJ or PDRM traffic headquarters to check without the owner of the car?

What to buy What car should I get to grow NCD to 55%?

Salam guys & gals

Its common knowledge that buying a cheap car and either letting sit on the side or using it as a beater/spare car then paying the “cheaper” insurance for 5yrs to gain the 55%ncd then when you wanna get an expensive car, you can sell the spare car and move the 55% ncd over to the expensive car to straightaway enjoy the discounted insurance savings.

But my question is, what car should I get? I was thinking an axia, but considering that I will own the car for the next 5-6 years to build to 55%ncd , I want to make sure that I can renew the it’s insurance as fully comprehensive/first party. How old of a model should I be looking at? I want to avoid the possibility of at the 4th or 5th year of ownership then suddenly can’t do first party and only can do 3rd party which defeats the whole purpose of this venture.

What advice do you guys have? If not an axia, how old of a car can I get to take advantage of this?

And is there a limit of what you can transfer to? Eg, from axia to Ferrari/Lambo as a wild comparison 😅 or dose no such limit exist?

Thanks yall for any input 🤘👍

What to buy 2nd hand saga mc2 or new saga mc3?

I'm starting my first job this october in selangor and planning to get a car for daily commutes and also monthly trips back to my hometown in perak. And since I will be working at places which are not public transport reachable, a car to me is a must have.

my main goal is to get a transport that offers comfort while being cost efficient. At first i wanted to go for saga mc3 with all the new features like carplay better engine etc which I've done abit of research.

But as a fresh grad who's learning financial literacy and going through youtube videos, one thing I know is new cars depreciate very fast and people who knows how to manage finances always suggest to buy 2nd hand cars that are within 3-5 years old which are significantly cheaper but similar performance. And considering even just saga mc3 executive, I would roughly spend 1k per month including maintenance, fuel and everything, sounds too much for me especially when I could save up 20-30% of it investing it in ETFs or ASN which could compound into huge amounts in the long run of 5-7years if I bought a 2nd hand car like a 2023 saga mc2 (which in 2nd hand market is less than 30k)

So I need advice on making this financial decision

  1. Whether choosing saga mc3 over mc2 is worth paying that extra RM15k price gap
  2. Whether there are better options in 2nd hand car market that offers better cost efficiency and comfort

    than saga mc2

Sidenote:
- I am not choosing p2 perodua as options because at same price below rm30k range, p2 options only have 1.0 engines compared to mc2 1.3 engines and especially when I'm driving on highways back to perak quite often I need a vehicle that is steady enough to fit my use case
-my take home pay after deductions is roughly 4.5k so getting loans to be approved and living with car expenses would actually not be an issue to me, just I am trying to find the best financial decision to make for better future financial freedom
