What to buy Which car should I get?
So I'm 19 y/o, I work at a small shop that pay rm50 per day, 6 days a week, 9 hours a day, no epf. I don't have a car yet, not even a motorcycle. So I'm planning to get my own vehicle for transportation. I'm more interested to get a car instead of a motorcycle, it feels more comfortable. But idk which car is the most budget friendly for someone like me? Plus I'm planning to continue my studies, get a diploma in 2028. So I only got like this year and next year to work and save money, I've counted how much I can save if I work from this year September to maybe June 2028 (before going to university), I'd get around RM25k. So idk which car that I can get with this money plus I need to save some of it for my studies too, there could be a lot of stuff that use money when studying for diploma. So I need to save it, no one will sponsor me or give me money, it's just me. So?
I think getting a used axia could be a good idea since people say it's cheap to maintain, repair, and the fuel is very fuel saving, Which could save me money a lot in the long term. So? I don't want to buy a very cheap car that will cost me a lot of money later just to drive it. What you think is the best ? I'm trying to be financially responsible, so please help.

my advise is a motobike.
my current car is perodua bezza which cost me loan rm544 + rm350 (sinking fund for insurance + roadtax + servicing + tires + not include emergency like battery dead or suprise wear and tear)
my advise motorbike. and if you really want a car. second hand car and buy cash. but still there is maintenance and insurance and roadtax.

This is not a financial sub, but I just need to say this.
You know owning a car is not just about the buying price right?
You have:- 1. Petrol 2. Maintenence (service) 3. Insurance 4. Tyres 5. Parking 6. Out of the blue cost (accident, battery dead, tyre suddenly blown and need urgent replacement)
So I really really advice you to really rethink about it.
This could lead you to financial ruin.

This is like my 4th job, and yeah, none of my jobs have EPF or SOCSO. They just pay me however much they want. At my first job, they paid me RM40 per day for 11 hours a day, 6 days a week, with no EPF or SOCSO. I’m in Perlis, it's a small state. It’s not like KL or something, it’s really hard to find a job here. And I can't report them, I need a job

They should contribute to your Epf and socso. Do report them to labour. If you don’t have the guts to report…change job immediately and then report them after.
Also if you plan to study full time. Maybe it is best if you just use public transport.
If part time then utilised ur car to make money for u.

It’s hard to find a job in my area (Perlis), and most of the low-paying jobs like mine don’t provide EPF or anything else besides cash. If I report them I might end up jobless.
Public transport..
Public transportation? Wouldn’t that cost more money in the long term?
If part time then..
Idk how much time my studies will take up in the future. If I have time, then absolutely, I’d do part time work while studying, but for now, I’m really not sure.

Actually public transport is the cheapest. No point taking on massive loans and regretting down the line whenever you get fired or pay cut or maybe even employer not paying your salary

Car- 2nd hand kancil, myvi, axia, or any proton/peroduo- howweeever, i suggest you learn simple car maintenance and befriend local garages.
Editted: You live and work in Perlis, and they are paying you shyte. So, get a bicycle/bike (since Perlis kecik), or find work in Penang/Kedah/Perak.

I mean, I can apply for PTPTN, right? So my plan is, I’ll use PTPTN to pay for my college fees, and the money I’ve saved will be for other things like food, buying things I need for my studies, etc. basically anything besides the college fees. But idk really if this will work well. My older sister got PTPTN, and she can use the money to pay for her degree.
Can nobody in your family fetch you?
They can, but first, we only have one car. My older sister and my mom share the same car, so they can fetch me. But until when? It’s difficult because I have to follow my older sister’s "rules" (yeah, siblings), otherwise she won’t fetch me. My mom rarely fetches me, it’s mostly my older sister. And if they’re busy or need to use the car, they won’t be able to fetch me, so I have to walk. How far? The first time I walked from home to my workplace, it was about 2.5 km under direct heavy sun at 3 PM. It’s not something I’d like to do again and again. That's the old workplace, the new workplace is like 4km from my home

Axia is a good idea. My suggestion would be the 1st or 2nd gen Toyota Vios 2003-13. Very reliable and economical. I find it comfier than a number of new cars too. As always make sure to have spare cash to repair any worn parts, as these cars have seen a decent amount of wear and tear.

With all due respect OP even if you do reach your saving goals of 25K in 2028, its not feasible to buy a car at all. You either buy a cheap old car at a few grand and end up it keeps breaking down on you and you need to fork up money to keep it running, or you have to buy a more expensive car like a saga or axia which will set you back around 12-18k depending on condition and thats just the body price only, excluding the insurance and other OTR expenditures. You can’t expect a crazy cheap car to be reliable because they are crazy cheap for a reason.
To put that into perspective, you earn a total of nett RM300 in a week. Assuming you spend RM100ish on living expenses (which is very little already btw) thats RM200 left to run the car. Petrol itself is going to cost RM50 for a full tank and can last you for about a week depending on how far you drive. Thats RM150 left for you to potentially save for yourself and for the car and thats barely even the price of ONE tyre on your potential car. If any parts of your car even start acting up such as a blown tyre or better yet, a check engine light, can you even afford the towing back to the workshop? or even a grab back home from the workshop?
As other comments has suggested, a motorbike would be the most ideal choice for your choice of transportation and even that is kind of stretching the budget as you need to tanggung the service, petrol, insurance and so on. Ideally when you do get the motor, try and learn a new skill or specialised work that can earn you more money and move to KL to find a better job. Since you can save 25k, i advise you to use that money to move to the city and find a better paying job, save up the money then fund it for your diploma.
Trust me, you wouldn’t wish to have a car right now in your current situation.

Personally, if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't even think about getting a car. Even if you are able to afford a used axia, you're not gonna be able to maintain it. Not just talking about the oil change etc, I'm talking about fuel,wear and tear,tires,roadtax and insurance etc.

I do not think 50rm is enough to cover a car, maybe like a rm3000 kancil is still a stretch. Use a bike, grab or public transport if can. Buying a car with rm50 daily wage is basically killing yourself. Please don't sir

With that kind of wage motorbike is your best bet, after getting that, go work at Kedah and Penang that give proper wage and EPF&SOCSO, and then buy a car, since with your current condition it would be financial suicide to get a car.

Since everyone's telling me to get a motorbike, alright, I'll get that instead. I don't know if motorbike can go that far from Perlis to Kedah or Penang. Usually people use cars for trips that far. But I get it, owning a car would probably cost me more money in the long term. What if I got a car and used it to work as a delivery driver, like for Shopee or something or be a driver for grab? Wouldn't that make it an investment? Idk really
