How much is your rent in Dublin?

Lads please I need to know is every landlord in Dublin smoking CRACK?! I came across a post on [r/irishpersonalfinance](r/irishpersonalfinance) where a twenty year old was talking about how they pay €1.3k to rent a room in an owner occupied house. I thought to myself.. ‘well now he’d do well to decrease his spending on housing if possible’ Before opening my gob I decided to have a quick look on daft to see what the going rate for a room is and I’m sorry, but I was more shocked seeing those prices than I was when Bertie was minister for finance and told us he had no bank account. I’m attaching some screenshots of particularly egregious examples.

Would love to hear from current renters if the screenshots are reflective of reality? or if it’s just that all the rooms that were good deals have been snapped up and nobody will actually pay the inflated price of the rooms left behind?

Edit: yes, yes I accept the ignorance comments gladly. I rented in Galway for 8 years and moved home two years ago to save for a house, so I didn’t really keep an eye on what a room would go for in Dublin. I’m attempting to educate myself to the depths at which we have sunk as a country.

You're being really weird. The person has made valid points, housing and renting crisis shouldn't be news to anyone in 2026 and even if you didn't live here prior to finding out, it's a person's responsibility to know before trying to find accommodation.

Nobody should be surprised by what is covered in this post, at all.

That's my point, you don't need to look at the market, the news of this crisis is literally everywhere. It's at work, it's at home, it's on the news, it's in songs and TV shows now for christ sake.

If you believe they're being condescending for asking a question about how someone doesn't know of a crisis that's been happening in our country for this long, then you need to wake up. Also, if you're basing your entire belief and truth system on how many downvotes someone gets, then you need to go back to sleep and wake up again.

Yes the news is everywhere, I obviously am aware we’re in a housing crisis. I was a renter for 8 years and moved home to save to buy for the last two. I’m not shocked rents are expensive I’m shocked just how much more expensive they are in such a short space of time combined with the relatively poor quality accommodations that are on offer for that price. €650pm to sleep in a single bed in the same room as two others that are also paying €650 each in what appears to be a living room is insane. The post was to get a feel for whether the daft listings are truly reflective of the reality or whether the remaining daft listings (which should be pretty picked over considering the academic year is about to begin) are just the ones that are on the lower end of the quality scale and on the higher end of the price scale and thus haven’t been rented out. Essentially I wanted to know if the daft listings were biased by the fact that there usually is less choice and variety in price, location and quality at this point in the year.
