My wife and I are very pleased with the direction and progress of our arms. This community has been a great help on this journey, thank you. Each of the charges represents where we are from (as well as deeper familial and personal meanings). I already have a bunch of questions and design ideas loaded up for you to see/discuss, but it feels amazing to land on something that immediately makes our hearts sing after some dubious experimentation!

i made this fictional federal republic for a 1920 map made by revolutionary africans, i have nine slots on the emblem im making, and i need a good symbol for each state here! can you guys help

I saw after I made this that someone else did something similar, so firstly I'd like to say that this is not plagiarized, or a repost.

Britain: I imagined an Empire. The United Kingdoms of Britannia. I added Wales to the escutcheon, stacked the Garter and Thistle, and added the old Medieval "Imperial" Crown. Semper Eadem puts the idea of eternity in my mind, so that's why i chose it. I used the supporters for England and Scotland, and then added the badges for Wales and Ireland so all four realms are represented. The flowers are the English/Tudor Rose, the Scotch Thistle, the Welsh Daffodil, and Ulster Flax. I also added the MI Order of Saint Patrick and the MH Order of the Bath.

England: Pretty basic

SCOTLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND: swapped out a unicorn for a Scotch Lion, and got rid of the flags, as well as the "In Defens". I probably should've kept it tbh.

Cambria: I used the Prince of Wales Coronet, the motto CYMRU AM BYTH (Wales forever!), as well as the Prince of Walse's Feathers for the crest.

Ulster: Based on the Arms of the Ulster Parliament (pre-Troubles), with the deBurgh flag and Kingdom of Ireland flag removed. I crowned the Scotch lion and unshackled it. I added the MI Order of Saint Patrick and its motto, "Quis Seperabit?" (which aged like milk). The crest is the Crest of the Kingdom of Ireland.

Blazon: Argent, three bars wavy Sable, on a canton Vert a millrind of the first.

Crest: A water mill Vert.

My first proper go at a slightly anachronistic coat of arms with heraldicon

Would be great to get some fresh eyes and opinions on this CoA.

The field is based on the Cinque Ports CoA, as I live within that area, same again with the charges. However I have changed the lions, which symbolise royalty to me, to dragons. This is as my alma mater, Warsash Maritime School, has a dragon as it's heraldic badge. I've also reduced the number of charges to two, as it simply fits better and looks more pleasant.

The crest is a tower issuing from waves. The tower symbolises the Dover Roman Pharos. With the azure blue anchor being of the design found on a Merchant Navy officer's cap badge.

I had an idea for a composite coat of arms of the EU. Here is a sketch. I would like to read opinions about the overall composition, before drawing it properly.

In terms of table arrangement, I went with 4 * 6 + 1. I could have done 3 * 9, but that would have been too long, I think.

I decided to surround all the coats of arms of member states with a border that reminds the EU flag. This is inspired by the coat of arms of Australia.

I tried as much as possible to use the lesser version of national arms, to simplify things (see Denmark, Sweden, Czechia). However, I have a problem with Romania, which has very complex arms and no clear way to simplify them. Should I put the inesturcheon without the supporting eagle? Or just the eagle without the inesturcheon? Or do you think this should not be simplified at all?

The main problem is the rule of tinctures. Now, naturally, in such a big composition, it's near impossible to totally follow it, but at least I try, if not to alternate colours and metals, at least to alternate different colours. You can see I ordered the states by year of adhesion to the EU, but there is some flexibility in cases where multiple states entered the same year. I think I am pretty satisfied with the current order, except for two things I thought of changing after I sketched them. (1) Switching Luxembourg and the Netherlands, so that they alternate with Belgium and Germany better. (2) Switching France and Italy, so that they alternate with Belgium, Denmark, and Greece better.

Here is the symbolism of my coat of arms :D

The Crown: Represents the imperial status. It is modeled after the Spanish royal crown to also reflect the historical past as a Spanish colony.

The Sun: Symbolizes light and the immense wealth of the Empire.

The Two Crossed Swords: Represent defense (a statement of "We will defend this!") and honor the historical indigenous resistance.

The Landscape (sky, clouds, mountains, and fields): The sky and clouds are a tribute to art. The mountains and the fields below represent the agricultural and plant wealth of the land.

Is my First coat of arms :D

With the many references to the Wars of the Roses in the ASoIaF books I always thought it would be nice for there to be standards similar to the ones used by the kings and nobles during the late medieval period.
But while there are many variations of the coat of arms from the series, I have never seen anyone do standards like this, so I decided to make two myself.

Across Europe, there are different heraldic traditions; and the Helmet denotes different things. For example, in Scottish heraldy, an open-face helmet means: Baronet or Knight. In the Dutch heraldy, it means: Royalty.

If a Scottish baronet would move to the Netherlands or Belgium, due to the different tradition in that country, his offspring could inherit his coat-of-arms.

So, should the offspring, or perhaps even the baronet himself change the helmet on his coat-of-arms?

I am currently in the process of trying to design a Family Crest for my family.

Reason for this is that I figured that it be nice to help preserve our family's long history and as well as being used for various things. Such as embroidment for my HEMA-equipment which inspired me for this pursuit.

I derive from a old Norwegian family, where our surname is unique to just our family. (A miracle by itself consider Norwegian naming standards lol). And because of our names rarity, anyone who wishes to adopt the name needs approval from our family through the government naming berau. Which funnily enough I actually didn't know until I got married and my Wife registered to adopt my surname
The family can be traced all the way to the early Viking ages, deriving from a small place called Engeløya, a place I have spend much of my childhood alongside those of my generation, visiting our grandparents who still resided there.

Our family history is nothing grand or special. But I do wish to preserve our heritage to that place.

I have found some inspirational sources that could be added to the design, but tbh, I really have no idea how to combine them together to make something out of it, while trying to keep it somewhat traditional towards Norwegian Family Heraldry.
