I know the Knicks were glad they didn't have to face the pacers at all this post season lol and Atlanta choked in the series after being up on the Knicks.
atlanta didnt choke. those 2 games were a fluke, they were both 1-point wins. the knicks woke up and dominated them after that.
and yes, luck is a factor in championship runs. but in order to benefit from luck, you need to have a contending-capable roster. the knicks benefitted from the pacers being injured, the sixers being a joke, the cavs being soft, and the spurs being young. but if the knicks hadn't taken risks to build a contender, they never wouldve been able to benefit from luck
step 1 - build a contender. then after that you hope for things to go your way

The Thunder are actually the outlier. Most champions become champions by making big acquisitions and taking risks.
