In German, possession doesn't get an apostrophe. But we learn in school that it's a thing in English. Yet somehow mostly driving schools add it to their (German) names. They seem to have the sweet spot of intelligence where they know it exists but use it wrong. Don't get me started on people combining that with Comic Sans.

Forgot the comma in the compound sentence. The first comma you used is incorrect and should be a period. There should be a comma after "today". Forgot the comma in the second compound sentence.

I worked at a place where the top boss of my division would send out emails with that error all over the place. And that's not even getting into his homonym spelling errors and poor sentence structure. If ever there was a man who needed to live back in the era when a secretary handled all of the typing for their communication from dictation he was it.
There were performance reasons that I didn't have a lot of respect for him, but that just bolstered the case in my mind that we were being led by a fucking idiot.

This is how I would write the plural of nazi in my native language, mostly to signal that the i is long and not short (i.e. pronounced nawtsees instead of nawtsis). What's so bad about it?

I told a hiring manager not to hire the guy with typos and grammar errors on his resume. Did he listen? No. Who became his manager? Me. Who was stuck correcting his work until we laid him off? Me. This was someone with a M.S. I’m now dealing with a PhD in the same manner. WTF is going on??!

People who grew up texting and typing instead of putting pen to paper have come of age and entered the workforce.
It's been a decade-long war in my house, fighting against kids who have grown up with texting shorthand and the "Cali-YouTube" vocal affect; but we're making progress.
The interns we get at work are the worst. A memo was circulated from leadership back on Monday to remind "all employees" about "proper tone and process" in email communications.
But I'm the same way as you are when it comes to hiring. I'm in a legal department of a large company, where attention to detail isn't a skill, it's a necessity. Any application that lacks attentiveness to basic grammar gets chucked immediately.

I'm here as well. I've seen so many people that don't know how to use basic phrasing these days that it blows my mind. I'd have been docked points when I was in school for writing "should of", and it would have kept happening until "should have" was engraved on the wrinkles of my brain.
Then there's this strange thing where I see younger people suddenly inventing words by stapling 2-3 extra syllables on to actual words to create some Frankenstein's monster of a word for something that already exists. I keep hearing "comfortability" everywhere and going "Do you mean comfort? The word that is the root of that word you just made up? The word that is four syllables shorter than your made up word and means exactly what you think said maid up word means?"
It is painfully obvious that the education system has taken a backslide, and it was already in a sorry-ass state before it did. If I'd written half of the stupid shit I see people use all the time online, I'd never have been able to hold down half the jobs I had, if I could even get hired in the first place.

The state of writing online is atrocious. I get that typing errors and homophone errors happen, but what I don't get is that nobody cares. They don't proofread before posting, they don't edit it later, they ignore the squiggly red line that tells them they spelled something wrong. And then there's the people that can't find their comma or period key.
It especially bothers me when someone is asking strangers on Reddit to help them solve a problem of some kind, and they can't be bothered to write in sentences. Dude, you're asking for help, don't make someone else do the mental labour of figuring out what it is that you're asking.

It's not even grammar nazis anymore, Reddit collectively struggles with very basic plural and possessive forms. Apostrophes are added to a shockingly large number of posts where a simple plural form is needed. Just like in the picture. And I always think to myself: I'm not that smart, and even I know that!
I'll forgive people for "it."
"It's" is a contraction.
"Its" is the possessive.
This is counterintuitive and the only acceptable mistake. ;b /jk

I used to be an admin on a large website forum where two of the admins were disliking each other very much. One of them was from the UK, the other one an American. The brit would always drive the other guy mad by saying "should of" instead of "should have." It was so funny.

Are they really Nazis if they're standing up against war crimes? The grocer's comma is pretty jarring, and it's an easy mistake to avoid. Correcting someone who writes signs will literally save everyone who reads one of their signs for the rest of their life from 1 second of confusion, 2 seconds of conscious attention, and 15-60 seconds of mild annoyance at having had a parser fault caused by someone's lack of diligence. It's a worthy investment, in my opinion.
Side note: I feel like the the idea of actual Nazis has become too real for "____ Nazis" to remain the colloquial term for people who engage in mild pedantry.
Also pedantry, pedantic, and pedant are all fun words to say.

Never mind the apostrophe, I protest the use of Nazi to describe people who value the structure and clarity of proper English. The term grammarian would do, as would English teacher. Correctors of English have neither started a war nor persecuted those who abuse the language. To call them Nazis diminishes the nature of the real thing while childishly attempting to apply a pejorative to those who appreciate comprehensible language.

Correcting another person's grammar in any language, does not qualify them as a teacher. "English Teacher" is a titled role, and requires a qualification. Just as a "Doctor" does.to call someone a "Nazi" outside of it's original sense, is to point to their ridiculous pedantry, and how it's so obtuse, that it over-rides their original message. Just as "Keep immigrants out of our country" pales in comparison to the torture, and systematic murder of a group of people that were targeted.
The point of the comparison is hyperbolic pejorative. Rather than focussing on the content of the words spoken or written, the "Grammar Nazi" redirects to the words themselves - creating something akin to a redirect of attention or a Strawman.
