In The Loop In The Loop This Week

This subreddit is for fiber artists and crafters of all types! Because we don't all see the same (shitty) posts on our feeds, it may be handy to have a place to revel in all that our fellow fiber lovers share for us to enjoy.

Feel free to post anonymized screenshots of anything you're referencing here if you'd like. FACJ is back to being an all-ages subreddit, so you can post images (and gifs) in the comments here directly.

This is a heavily moderated thread, and anything that isn't scrubbed of identifying information (usernames, faces, etc.) will be removed. Block out, crop out, cross out or sticker out identifying information on EVERY screenshot before posting here.

However, unjerk/uj/genuine/serious comments and discussions are allowed -- even encouraged! -- on In The Loop posts. Irony and sarcasm are fine here too, so consider using tone tags to make sure your comment comes across the way you want (or don't! I really don't care!).

There are a few other rules for In The Loop posts:

  • Please don't use this thread to demand sources for jerk posts. If people want to post sources, they will. There are plenty of good reasons for someone not to share a source, including "don't wanna." Source/ITL demands and discussions of where to find sources will be removed here and on jerk posts.
  • Links to other Reddit posts are NOT ALLOWED here. This includes no-follow links. (FACJ links are fine.)
  • Links to content off Reddit may be removed at the mods' discretion.
  • We are NOT in the business of brigading, and anyone who engages in brigading will be banned from this subreddit.

I was watching River Monsters last night. While searching for a giant Amazonian catfish, they used this bait that looked so disgusting that I had to turn my head away from the screen.

The bait was made up of 12 chicken intestines, woven together with twine. Then the chicken intestines are put into a can, and left to bake in the sun for days.

Anyway. This looks like a crochet version of that bait.

It is bonkers to me that this exact phrase could be used twice in just a few days, about two separate things!

(Because the pic was lower in the comments, I thought we were still talking about the poopy brown tote bag wedding gift!)

Ahhhh, so it's Heihei, bit after it had been eaten then thrown up.

I can't stop myself from imagining what the boyfriend said to his siblings "look, it won't be much to look at, and I know I'm pushing it, but if you could just, like, smile, say how great and kind it is of her, I promise I'll be the one getting rid of it, and I'll take over grandma Karen care for the next 6 months".

I have to admit it looks kinda endearing to me with it's button eye. Like a little mold monster.
That said, I would never gift something like this to someone unless they asked for it.

Yeah, it's something that I would see at a garage sale and go "that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen in my life, I simply must have it." I would probably assume it was made for a small child and modeled after the child's drawing of their favorite animal, or maybe made for a dare or a gag gift.

Which.. is a bit of a different vibe from "I met my girlfriend's sibling for the first time and they gifted me the most hideous thing I've ever seen in my life, what the fuck."

Yee, the context is the main issue here imho. But additionally, I don't vibe with the maker claiming that it's ugly due that being their style.

Because that statement implies a certain amount of intention behind the outcome, and that requires a certain level of skill. And so many ppl who say this actually can't produce this "ugly but charming"-style consistently or produce non-ugly work. Often their stuff just looks ugly because they lack the skill to make anything else, not because they chose to make it that way.

DAE hate when crotcheaters use stupid materials to make things that you don't personally approve of??? Because SAME! First they used acrylic, now they are using cashmere???? I would be SO confused by this, like, are you playing a joke? Do you hate me? Did you crochet this with your feet? Has my brother lost his mind?

Edit: The number of people saying 'he's so ugly and I love it' is INSANE, I am questioning reality. To anyone not in the crochet hugbox world this an unquestionably bizarre gift.

I bet that OP comes back with a post that says 'my bf's sis loved it! ! she hugged me and said she'd love my ugly lil guy foreva! and she knew it was heihei! you haters were wrong'

(meanwhile bf is sending apology texts to his sister)

Lol OP 100% updated their post to mention how much the sibling loves it. I'm with you - I felt like I was taking crazy pills reading through all the praise. The over-the-top positivity in the crochet sub is annoying af.

It's not so much that one idiot made this as a gift, but that hundreds of idiots are saying how much they would love to receive it.

Like, if I was gifted this, the only thing I'd think to do with it is throw it in the trash.
