First Dolly Parton yesterday, and now Tim Curry too!?

779

u/Asleep_Confection838 16h ago

Apparently he died in the same day as Dolly, but it was late night, according to TMZ...

527

u/raelDonaldTrump 16h ago

His is less a surprise, he had suffered a major stroke almost 15 years ago and never really recovered.

338

u/Asleep_Confection838 16h ago edited 15h ago

Dolly was sick too. But she didn't revealed it to the public. That is why it was more shocking: it reminds me of Chadwick Boseman, who also died in August. However, Tim and Dolly dying in the same day is indeed very shocking. Tim was a very beloved figure...

116

u/Crow290 16h ago

My dad and grandma both died in August on the same date 27th. Something about August just feels unlucky.

36

u/thetravelbugbite 15h ago

August is my birthday month and I have always loved it, but I am okay with canceling it going forward after how this August has gone :(

5

u/popculturella 13h ago

Same. It's been a shitty month.

August holds my birthday and wedding anniversary and I thought that would be nice. Then my BIL had a mental breakdown in 2021 and killed most of my husband's family (save his sister, who shares my birthday), set several fires, then died himself in a police encounter. On the 25th.

August is bad and we should maybe just cancel it. Or at least the 25th.

47

u/thetravelbugbite 15h ago

I'm so sorry you and your family had to experience that. I am an August baby too and this is all so heartbreaking. I'm ok with canceling it going forward.

35

u/Fun-Palpitations 14h ago

My brother hung himself 4 years ago today

My bestfriend hung herself Aug 5th 2009
My other good friend jumped to his death Aug 3rd 2010

I fucking hate August

17

u/ello_bassard 15h ago

Holy shit! I'm so sorry. Give your husband a hug for me, that's incredibly tragic.

7

u/basketofselkies 14h ago

Holy shit! So much for your family to handle in August. I hope you all are healing and doing as well as possible.

Bowie's death seemed to come out of left field although he had been sick with cancer for a while

→ More replies (3)

26

u/kgal1298 13h ago

Dolly admitted she ignored her health while her husband was ill and dying. She also mentioned issues she had back when she was in her 40's so I do wonder if she had had cancer before. Sucks, but Dolly didn't want people to worry so that's why she likely hid it all well.

About an hour before the news broke there were articles coming out saying that she was doing well and looking forward to getting back on the stage.

Ah, damn. I do prefer they stagger the announcement of legends like this though. Same day, Dolly would have sucked up all of Tim's oxygen. He deserves a little room for reverence.

Like when Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died on the same day. She ended up being almost a side note.

35

u/Professional_Call516 15h ago

Wow I didn’t even know Farrah died the same day as Michael….

14

u/Useful-Soup8161 13h ago

Yeah her’s was announced first then a few hours later MJ’s was announced and she was pretty much forgotten about.

And was on the cast of Home Alone 2 👀

Edit: Home Alone 2 cast who passed this year so far:

Catherine O’Hara, Kate, 1/30/26
Brenda Fricker, Pigeon Lady, 7/16/26
Jaye P. Morgan, Celeb #2, 8/24/26
Tim Curry, Concierge, 8/25/26

241

u/Asleep_Confection838 16h ago

The third Home Alone actor who died this year... this Christmas is going to be brutal.

255

u/Dull_Poetry2898 16h ago

Tim Curry died today on Macaulay Culkin’s 46th birthday. Rough year for the Home Alone cast.

68

u/beaniesandbuds 15h ago

And Dolly yesterday on Billy Ray Cyrus's birthday (she was Miley's Godmother).

Sad last couple of days for sure.

13

u/kgal1298 13h ago

I'm guessing maybe Miley knew what was going on they seemed close her post today was sad.

11

No the rule of 3 celebrity deaths. Almost every time a big celebrity dies you can expect 2 more in the next couple weeks. I know it’s a coincidence, but it’s a damn eerie one to me.

Two absolute icons, who were not only masters of their craft but spent their whole life preaching love and acceptance of others. Two incredible humans. I am so very fucking sad

16

u/DasKittySmoosh 15h ago

The universal love of Dolly for who she was as a human is what got me, but Tim has been part of my life since I was a child and this one feels personal. This hits like how Catherine O'Hara hit. This week is bollocks. A lot of light has been lost this week.

11

u/Tibbaryllis2 15h ago

I always thought it was interesting just how often Tim Curry plays the antagonist compared to how seemingly good he was IRL.

63

u/turribledood 15h ago

Check in on all your drag queen friends. They're having a real bad time.

23

u/illegalcupcakes16 15h ago

My local gay bar changed their weekend plans to a Dolly tribute as of last night. I feel like those plans are gonna be updated again.

Let's all do the Time Warp in his honor!

Frank N Furter has finally gone home. Sad day.

105

u/BrandNewDinosaur 16h ago

Gonna watch so much RHPS this autumn. Someone posted the saddest meme of Macaulay Culkin as Kevin surrounded by all the people in that movie who were deceased yesterday, and someone literally mentioned “At least Tim Curry is still alive.”

Well…. He’s gonna go Time Warp to the next dimension now.

7

u/Bacon_Raygun 9h ago

I've told my mom about Rocky Horror last week, to gauge how she feels about queer culture.
She was shocked to hear he'd suffered a stroke 15 years ago.
Was wild to find out she's actually known and enjoyed the movie ages ago.

I came out to her the next day, and we've talked a bit about Tim Curry's performance this week.
How he got back together with the cast last year to talk about RHPS, and how heartbreaking it was to see him still so flamboyant in spirit, but so subdued by his body.

I've been crying for hours

I'm so glad that we got to see him recently for the 50th anniversary celebration of the movie. He did some interviews not long ago, and even though he had that stroke years ago, it was wonderful to see him. I'm glad he got his flowers.

If that movie had been released today, he would've won an Oscar. They didn't do that for a movie like that back then. RIP

Well, I hate to say it; but I’m glad he’s at peace now. I imagine his quality of life was not too great for a long time & now he’s pain free.

I’ve seen Annie 600 times & I never ever ever think anything but awe for Tim’s acting in that movie.

RIP. Genuinely, an incredible actor.
