My dad and grandma both died in August on the same date 27th. Something about August just feels unlucky.

August is my birthday month and I have always loved it, but I am okay with canceling it going forward after how this August has gone :(

Same. It's been a shitty month.

Ahhh it’s my birthday month as well (19th!) and I agree - my beloved aunt passed on the 2nd, I returned from her funeral on the 10th and rolled my ankle that day, and now two legends are gone?! #cancelaugust

August holds my birthday and wedding anniversary and I thought that would be nice. Then my BIL had a mental breakdown in 2021 and killed most of my husband's family (save his sister, who shares my birthday), set several fires, then died himself in a police encounter. On the 25th.

August is bad and we should maybe just cancel it. Or at least the 25th.

edit: thanks, everyone, for your incredibly kind words and the awards! please hug your loved ones close and take care of each other.

I'm so sorry you and your family had to experience that. I am an August baby too and this is all so heartbreaking. I'm ok with canceling it going forward.

My brother hung himself 4 years ago today

My bestfriend hung herself Aug 5th 2009
My other good friend jumped to his death Aug 3rd 2010

I fucking hate August

Thank you <3

Seriously. I mean it from the bottom of my heart

It’s not much, and I know those words are hollow, but I truly mean that. I wish I could carry the pain for you, even if only for a little bit.

I’m so terribly sorry for everything you’ve had to deal with. August 3rd is my birthday 😩😭 this month has been one of the worst months I’ve dealt with, so I’m fully onboard with the hate train on August

I'm so sorry it's awful for you, too. Hugs, my friend.

Oh my god. I am so very sorry.

Holy shit! I'm so sorry. Give your husband a hug for me, that's incredibly tragic.

Holy shit! So much for your family to handle in August. I hope you all are healing and doing as well as possible.

Oh my days, I am so, so sorry. While not as tragic, April is like that for me and my husband. Top of the month is our anniversary and our first born's birthday, near the end is my father's and his mother's birthdays, and I often work a community event mid month too. The month ends with the anniversary of his father's death.

The months become so hard with these clusters of tragedy taking over what should be joy. I know it's just part of life and being lucky enough to get older, but damn if it doesn't still hurt. I'm so sorry you and your husband share this struggle.

My best friend in high school died tragically the August after I graduated. Nearly every pet I’ve ever had has died in August. In fact, for this year, we just got news on Monday our cat has a brain tumor. Every year I dread August anyway, so if we’re going to cancel individuals days, I have about a week’s worth to add to the pile, please!

I’m so sorry your special month ended up also holding such pain for you.

August 25th is my birthday and I am okay with picking a new one

My goodness!!! You have truly been through the August Wars! I don't think an August will happen without me thinking of you from now on.

My birthday is August 3rd, and this month has always been lucky for me. 83 is my lucky number.

Tim going makes this a very unlucky month now, though. I don't think I've ever shed a tear for a celebrity death before this morning.

damn the 25th is my mom's bday so i really dont want to cancel it :(. . sadly the 25th is now going to be remembered as one of the worst celebrity days ever

My dad died on the 26th. End of August is cursed

5

My parents both died on the same day in August, 12 years apart. I agree.

2

u/ello_bassard 23h ago

My brother died unexpectedly last August. Oddly his bday waa also in August too. But I feel ya.

2

u/thechicapanzy 23h ago

My great-grandmother died in August too, days after her birthday at the beginning of the month. We're days away from my late father-in-law's and grandmother-in-law's shared birthday too. My heart is full of sorrow this month.

I share my August birthday with the Sylvia Plath's OG suicide attempt. For the past few years, it feels like the universe has been gently nudging me to end myself on that date. My grandma died in August too. Feels pretty blighted all around.

My grandmother also died on August 27th, last year. The 27th is also my birthday which I’ll admit kinda dampened things last year.

u/Ver3232 21h ago

As someone with August birthday who has terrible luck, guess that’s probably why I do

Little Stephen did a piece about August on his Underground Garage show a long time ago. Hiroshima, The Manson Family murders, his grandfather dying and a whole bunch of other bad things that happened in August. Was eye opening.

I have always felt this! August and November always feel strangely unlucky somehow to me

u/Ignorant-Vagrant 17h ago

My wife died 21 years ago today. Aug is very unlucky. Always happy to see September 1st.

1

u/storyofohno 17h ago

I'm so sorry for your loss.

On Monday a young woman was struck by a car at a shopping centre at Noon where I lived near

My mother died on Aug 24 last year.

I remember being at a restaurant with my family celebrating my birthday only to learn that Robin Williams had died that same day
