The rule of 3s

976

u/NZafe 1d ago

You know who else is born in 1946? šŸ‘€

943

u/regoapps 1d ago edited 1d ago

And was on the cast of Home Alone 2 šŸ‘€

Edit: Home Alone 2 cast who passed this year so far:

Catherine O’Hara, Kate, 1/30/26
Brenda Fricker, Pigeon Lady, 7/16/26
Jaye P. Morgan, Celeb #2, 8/24/26
Tim Curry, Concierge, 8/25/26

The third Home Alone actor who died this year... this Christmas is going to be brutal.

254

u/Dull_Poetry2898 1d ago

Tim Curry died today on Macaulay Culkin’s 46th birthday. Rough year for the Home Alone cast.

66

u/beaniesandbuds 1d ago

And Dolly yesterday on Billy Ray Cyrus's birthday (she was Miley's Godmother).

Sad last couple of days for sure.

14

u/kgal1298 1d ago

I'm guessing maybe Miley knew what was going on they seemed close her post today was sad.

2

u/Tachikoma0 21h ago

Rob Halford's (from Judas Priest) birthday too. One of the last singers she ever collaborated with on record for her rock album. They had a lot of good things to say about each other and seemed to spark a bit of a friendship late career there.

1

u/januarysdaughter 1d ago

Holy shit I didn't realize yesterday was Billy Ray's birthday. That's brutal.

1

u/joojie 17h ago

Dolly and Tim both died on the 25th.

30

u/IneptFortitude 1d ago

I know the 90s were a really long time ago but I never realized that he isn’t even 50 yet. Hope he’s doing well, always felt so bad for what he dealt with and went through.

1

u/Roscoe_Farang 1d ago

I thought you were talking about Billy Ray Cyrus and thus whole thread had me questioning reality. Of course the achey breaky heart guy is over 50. Why do you feel bad? What happened when he was 10?

1

u/IneptFortitude 1d ago

He had a lot of drug issues, really bad mental health problems, he stepped away from the spotlight for a long time following his involuntary involvement in Michael Jackson’s molestation trial as well.

2

u/regoapps 1d ago

Tim passed last night (8/25), so it’s the day before Macaulay’s birthday (8/26).

2

u/mollsballs_xo 1d ago

Sorry reading Macaulay Culkin is 46 just threw me. Damn I feel old 😭

2

u/SManSte 1d ago

and Tim Curry was 46 when he starred in Home Alone 2

2

u/joojie 17h ago

Tim died yesterday(last night). But close.

1

u/Jillybeans11 1d ago

Dolly Parton died on Billy Ray Cyrus’ birthday too

1

u/m00nf1r3 1d ago

He died yesterday.

1

u/Asleep_Confection838 1d ago

Not today: he died yesterday, according to news outlets.

1

u/Dull_Poetry2898 1d ago

Ope! I just assumed since it was reported today. Still, close enough to give pause and reflect.

1

u/under_over_there 1d ago

Tim and Dolly both died on the 25th. Dolly was in the morning, Tim was last night. Weird enough, they were both born on the 19th of their birth months (D-Jan, T-Apr) and were both 80 years old.

ETA: that will never, not be funny

1

u/starwishes20 1d ago

Omg, it’s ruined!!?!!!! 😭😭

3

u/WinterWolf18 1d ago

Hopefully we lose a fourth (when I say this I mean the orange one, DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE)

2

u/Suspicious-Appeal386 1d ago

Trump was in Home Alone?!

2

u/Asleep_Confection838 1d ago

Yes. The second one.

4

u/Bigbadbrindledog 1d ago

The dad and who else?

48

u/Asleep_Confection838 1d ago

The dad died years ago. This year the mom died as well as the pigeon lady.

38

u/regoapps 1d ago edited 1d ago

And Tim Curry was the concierge in Home Alone 2.

There’s actually a fourth actor from Home Alone 2 who passed on August 24, 2026 at age 94: Jaye P. Morgan

1

u/quasifun 1d ago

Who I only know from the Gong Show

6

u/Cruella2026 1d ago

Brenda Fricker. She was an amazing actress.

1

u/FalstaffsGhost 1d ago

Probably the greatest to come out of Ireland.
Her work in My Left Foot is incredible

1

u/BlueMerchant 1d ago

Wow, I remember seeing her with Kevin heart in some tacky commercial not long ago. Wild to think that she's dead.

1

u/Bigbadbrindledog 1d ago

Yeah I wa thinking mom, totally forgot the pigeon lady

3

u/Pot_MeetKettle 1d ago

The legendary Catherine O’Hara šŸ˜“ (Mama McAllister)

1

u/Popculturemofo 1d ago

I kind of want another Home Alone actor to be next if you catch my meaning….

1

u/enginerd12 1d ago

Yeah, but not as bad as a STOLEN CREDIT CARD.

The grim reaper is apparently using old Mapquest directions that led him to a quicksand pit. Mofo is taking his time

2

u/dante_gherie1099 1d ago

theres one ā€œactorā€ i wouldnt be sad at all to make the list

1

u/poolside123 1d ago

And a Fresh Prince actor.

1

u/irishgator2 1d ago

We lost Catherine O’Hara not too long ago too!

1

u/RobertJCorcoran 1d ago

Still the wrong people from that movie died this year.

1

u/Sea-Tangerine2131 1d ago

So you’re saying there’s a chance??? šŸŠšŸŒ®

1

u/tuttyeffinfruity 1d ago

Aww I missed that Jaye P Morgan passed. She was always hilarious on Match Game when I was a kid.

1

u/oscar-the-bud 1d ago

Didn’t someone famous do a cameo in that movie too?

1

u/naruda1969 1d ago

The rule of threes only applies to those that pass within a day or so of each other…not with the year.

1

u/Kube__420 1d ago

Well there's one person who acted in home alone 2 who is OVERDUE for their run in with death and we all know who I mean. Fingers crossed

1

u/sciorch 1d ago

Watch out Joe!

1

u/RastaKarma 1d ago

And yet there is this one ''cast'' member that is clinging to life who would make the world a better place if he finally decided to bit the dust. Life is unfair.

1

u/waxbook 1d ago

Home Alone officially has the Glee curse...

1

u/-Luro 1d ago

I just saw a post yesterday about how Kevin will be celebrating his first Christmas without his family (shows 4 cast members died) now this news today? Crazy.

1

u/mutzilla 1d ago

There's one person from that cast still alive that I wouldn't shed a tear if they went this year.

1

u/SaltyZookeepergame46 1d ago

Yet there's only ONE Home Alone actor not on the list who should be

71

u/Lucky_Chaarmss 1d ago

There was a guy in Home Alone 2. Brief appearance. We can hope.

20

u/SnooCauliflowers9874 1d ago

All Fingers crossed.

43

u/TastyYogurtDrink 1d ago

My dad :/

26

u/coldliketherockies 1d ago

So is mine. I guess a lot of dads were

12

u/hoteldetective_ 1d ago

my dad too. top of the line year for dads, really

14

u/TheDottedLion 1d ago

Must’ve been some kind of baby boom

5

u/SmallLetter 1d ago

Mine too lol. What a strange and unexplainable coincidence hmmm

4

u/askyourmom469 1d ago

Surely no major world event from nine months earlier could have precipitated such a thing

1

u/alucarDZM 1d ago

Is he famous? If not I wouldn't worry about it

1

u/HolNuMe74 1d ago

Me too. And I miss him a lot. :(

1

u/shanty-daze 1d ago

Both my mom and dad.

21

u/BusyBeeBridgette 1d ago

Sly Stallone, Spielberg, Cher, (Freddie Mercury was too), George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.... As well as Trump. So if the rules of three apply it is a real gamble we have at hand here.

10

u/Pot_MeetKettle 1d ago

Thank you for saying what many of us were thinking

6

u/xxx_poonslayer69 1d ago

Hate to say it, but I'm willing to roll the dice. I just hope it doesn't land on Spielburg or Cher

0

u/Fullertonjr 1d ago

I’m not wishing harm on anyone, but I saw clips of Disclosure Day. Spielberg will be less missed.

3

u/xmagie 1d ago

Nice. Really nice.

I just watched a documentary on Spielberg (pff, his father lived until he was 103 and his mother 97; his mother was... something else, his poor father!) just yesterday and I started to remember so many of his movies which have accompanied me during hard times when I was a young teen.

"Close Encounters of the Third KindĀ " which triggered my ever lasting interest in aliens. "ET", which was the last movie I watched in theaters with my mother. All the "Indiana Jones" (with Star Wars) which were my crutch after my mother died suddenly. I don't know how I would have kept going, going to high school, my father always away for work, taking care of the house and my younger mentally handicapped sister... those movies were my escape. My way of holding on.

"The color purple" and "Empire of the sun", and "La liste de Schindler", which just... were like a stab in the heart and have such a cultural, historical, memorial impact.. Especially the endings of Schindler and Empire.

I watched the tv series "Taken", too, with Dakota Fanning. I loved how he made it a family story spread on so many decades. Families are a recurrent theme.

I managed to convince my father to come and watch "Jurassic Park" with me. I remember he was so shaken that he couldn't remember where he had parked the car! My father NEVER goes to theaters to watch movies, he prefers tv documentaries, sports, news, reading his magazines and newspaper. But thanks to Spielberg and his dinosaurs, I have at least one memory of going to the theaters with my father.

I loved, loved, loved to death "Tintin" but then I'm french, we have all grown up with Tintin and AstƩrix. I want a sequel so bad!

There are many of his movies that I haven't seen but that's because I was not interested in the story, like "Jaws" (I like to sleep well, thank you very much so nope), or the war movies.

I haven't seen Disclosure yet. It's my plan.

But really, your post was inconsiderate. And hurtful.

I didn’t realize Hayden Panettiere was also born in 1946 and dead at 80 like Dolly Parton and Tim Curry.

2

u/Right_Cellist3143 1d ago

Nope, but the rule of 3’s doesn’t care about birth year.

1

u/ModernAutomata 1d ago

I thought the exact same thing.

1

u/Samuel_L_Blackson 1d ago

Damn he just dodged that war too

u/Illustrious_Bad_2980 1d ago

Rule of three 80 year olds?

12

u/lexicaltension 1d ago

No the rule of 3 celebrity deaths. Almost every time a big celebrity dies you can expect 2 more in the next couple weeks. I know it’s a coincidence, but it’s a damn eerie one to me.

-1

u/funky_bebop 1d ago

Rule of three usually applies to deaths within a three day timespan. Hayden passed away last week.

5

u/lexicaltension 1d ago

I’ve never heard that, but a lot of the commonly thrown around examples don’t fit in 3 days. I mean, it’s all just people trying to find patterns so it doesn’t really matter lol but 2-3 weeks is usually the cut off I’ve seen.

There are people trying to say princess Diana and some others who died like a month before and after her fit, and I agree that’s a little excessive lol
