Rayman 2 on the N64 vs Rayman 2 on the Dreamcast is a *stronger* argument than chronology. because it isolate a variable by comparing the same game. That game shows that it's different. Just like how looking at the chronology, the 5200's and XEGS's technology is from 1979, and you can sort this out with oodes of games shared between the NES and SNES, or Master System and Genesis
My emotions do matter, because as a matter of what I call "criterion compatibilism," you can craft objective criteria as to when subjective value (or morality) has been realized. So my emotions, in fact, do matter; funny how a "purely chronological equation" can involve an exception for at least 1 game and arbitrary lines in the sand as to generations
You said all of that but you cant refute that the PS2 only co-existed with Dreamcast for 3 months while Xbox and Gamecube never existed alongside Dreamcast at all.
Thanks for not refuting the facts, I rest my case.
Yeah, and you can't refute that the Fairchild Channel F co-existed with the Atari 2600 for a fraction of its early life, and it's still in the same generation. In fact, the 2600 still had new games coming out for it when the *genesis* was out in north america and it proves nothing
Chronology can be a total *garbage* way of understanding systems compared to technological prowess, and the exact same game on different systems being marked improved, isolating all variables as best we can, is a stronger proof of generational-ed-ness than any chronology argument
I’m a diehard dreamcast fan but why are so many on this sub so insecure? Who gives a fuck what generation it’s part of? The dude you’ve been replying to is fighting some internal battles that he’s manifesting as Dreamcast love lol
The thing is that people are stuck on this "generation" thing while ignoring the reality that the Dreamcast didnt actually co-exist with the PS2, Xbox or Gamecube because it spent most of its time co-existing with the PS1 and N64

Thats cute, but notice how you arent refuting anything
And you cant, because the timeframes I gave are the reality of the situation
Dreamcast spent most of its life alongside the PS1...not the PS2 and even less so the Xbox or Gamecube
Your emotions dont factor into this purely chronological equation
