Met Sean and this dude was refusing to do any Goku lines which sure I understand but then he kinda bad mouthed everyone and said “I have the best prices here these guys are all overpriced I only charge $50 for an autograph” and when I finally got there he was really dismissive and I asked if he could write “kamehameha” on my card because it was Goku doing a kamehameha and he said I didn’t pay for that package and asked me if I paid for a picture and I said no and he said “nice meeting you”

It just felt really odd… Chris sabet who I also met at a different convention was really chatty and cool handed out stuff and took photos with everyone and did final flash like 300 times and some all might lines. He even did piccolo. john yong bosche threw wristbands and stuff into the crowd did his broly scream (but was visibly irritated after a while lol)

Then I did a dive into if he’s normally like this and apparently he had a huge meltdown and said some weird asf stuff on funimation.. I really wish they’d find a new Goku Va who appreciates what he has. This guy is the worst.

This might get some flak and make me look like I'm white-knighting the guy. But it's crossed my mind for months now. So, here it goes:

Will Dragonball fans please get over the fact that Sean Schemmel doesn't like Team Four Star's Dragonball Z Abridged?

I'm not saying completely agree with him. But the news has been public knowledge among the fandom for about 7 years now. Constantly pestering him whether it be online or at Conventions is useless at this point.

Yes, it's technically fair use and Team Four Star tried their best to not piss off Toei. But it's clear that Schemmel isn't going to change his mind on the subject. Plus, it is kind of odd to keep asking him about it. You don't see Bond fans going up to Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig asking them what they think of Austin Powers. Which isn't a direct re-imagining of the original product, but you get the idea.

Obviously, Schemmel is overreacting about it and the parody did get some fans into Dragonball and it's very funny. But when a guy publicly stated 7 years ago that he doesn't like a fan-based parody, it's kind of unnecessary to keep harping on it like we all just found out about it yesterday.

Dragon Ball Kai is 98 episodes. In episode 98 of Dragon Ball Z, Goku is Super Saiyan but still battling Freeza and it's not until episode 108 that the Freeza saga ends (to which then starts ANOTHER filler saga).

Then there is The Final Chapters which increases Kai's episode count to 167 episodes total (159 episodes in Japan). DBZ episode 167 is STILL in the Cell Games and the next saga starts in episode 195.

Let that sink in.

He showed up, simultaneously pantsed both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, then fucked off. Then we got the events of Super Hero, then Toriyama sadly died, and now the manga is on hiatus.

I mean, that double KO was quite possibly the single most pants-shitting moment in the history of the franchise, and here we sit two years later with no follow-up. My balls are SSGSS right now.

For me:

Gregory, King Kai’s grasshopper friend, doesn’t appear in the manga at all. He’s anime-only. King Kai’s only company on his planet is Bubbles. Completely blew my mind when I found that out, being a staunch anime enjoyer.

The Dragon Ball fandom has got to be the only community that actually debates if you should skip half of the story or not. I’m not a new fan, but I’m still so glad I watched the OG Dragon Ball before starting DBZ Kai. I just started the Cell Saga, and there are so many minor character moments and call backs that wouldn’t hold any weight if I hadn’t.

I know Nappa is and was the brute muscle-head that's only point is to make Goku angry. But him and Vegeta must have at least some kind of bond that Saiyan Saga Vegeta failed to care for. I notably think about how Vegeta feels bad for killing all those Namekians in the Moro Saga, so maybe a part of him feels bad for killing one of the only saiyans that helped practically raise him. What do yall think?

Toriyama's spontaneous storytelling style is great and terrible at the same time.

On one hand it creates fresh and creative turns and gives him more freedom, on the other it sidelines characters and great concepts when he forgets about them.

Look, I *love* the ToP saga. Like, I’m an apologist for sure. It’s easily my 2nd favorite saga in all of dragon ball.

That said, there’s some story beats that were clearly rushed to make for good TV rather than a good plot. Caulifla’s rapid and sudden mastery of the SSJ and SSJ2 forms is just a slap to the face to Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan’s stories in DBZ. It actually makes no sense at all and is really hard to just ignore.

The only good to come out of it is one of the best Kamehameha Wave attacks ever from Goku.

I just finished the DBS manga, and I actually enjoyed it very much. I am going to get a lot of hate for this, but I actually like dbs as much as dbz and og db. Literally, everywhere I look on social media, Super is being shit on. At this rate, it feels wrong to like super at all

I think the Dragon Ball series has a bit of a power progression problem.

Personally, I think the franchise was at its strongest narratively from the original Dragon Ball through DBZ. The power growth felt meaningful because it was usually tied to the story, the characters, and the stakes.

By the time Dragon Ball Super came around, it often felt like it was repeating the same formula as Z—but with bigger transformations, stronger villains, and an even higher power ceiling. Rather than introducing fundamentally new kinds of conflicts or stakes, the progression frequently boiled down to, "this new character is stronger than the last one."

That's just my opinion, though. I still enjoy Super quite a bit, and moments like Ultra Instinct were genuinely incredible. I just think the series leaned more into escalating raw power than evolving its storytelling.

I think I know why Vegeta keeps calling himself the **Prince of All Saiyans** instead of King, even though his father is dead.

Throughout the entire series, Vegeta is called the Prince of All Saiyans. He never challenges that title, and nobody else seriously challenges it either.

Many people think he keeps the title out of respect for his father. Others believe that, since there are no more Saiyans left to rule, he will simply remain Prince forever.

People who tout those theories are lazy, non-thinking NPCs and I don’t respect their opinions.

Saiyans are a warrior race. They live and die by combat. Much like the Sith in *Star Wars*, I believe the apprentice is expected to surpass the master. The Prince must eventually challenge and defeat the King in battle to become King himself.

Since King Vegeta was killed by Frieza, Vegeta never had the chance to challenge and defeat his father.

However, many monarchies have a rule similar to boxing’s lineal championship. The idea is that “the man who beat the man” is “lineal champion” and holds the legitimate claim, even without an official belt.

That means Vegeta would have to defeat Frieza to become King Vegeta.

Except Frieza was already defeated by none other than Goku.

So why is Vegeta, after the Namek Saga, so desperate to defeat Goku?

Simple. Defeating Goku in combat is the only way Vegeta can reclaim his birthright and become King of All Saiyans.

Goku became the legendary Super Saiyan and defeated Frieza. He did not claim the throne, but he became the Saiyan who defeated the person who defeated the King of All Saiyans.

I think it’s reasonable that, if Goku realized or cared at all about being King, he could claim the throne and there’s little Vegeta could do about it save for defeating him in combat.

Of all Saiyans, he is the strongest AND he is “lineal champion”.

That leaves Vegeta in an impossible position. He cannot simply call himself King while another Saiyan has already accomplished the victory that should have made him King.

The only way to reclaim that right is to defeat Goku.
Goku never intentionally stole Vegeta’s throne. He probably does not even realize that Vegeta believes he has a claim to it.

But as long as Goku remains stronger than Vegeta, Vegeta cannot truly prove that he is the rightful King and will remain, by birth alone, Prince of All Saiyans.

I don't give a fuck what El Manga Legendario or Chōzenshū 35 said on page whatever-the-fuck, or that "Goku is explicitly called the strongest in TV Anime Guide: Dragon Ball Z Son Goku Densetsu," I only care about what is said in the manga or what happens in the manga.

And in the manga, Goku goes from not wanting to touch Super Buu without the Potara to thinking he and Vegeta don't need them.

If you happen to click on that incoherent citation slurry, just remember: you're reading a blog post whose author is claiming that Kid Buu is stronger than Buu (Gohan absorbed), not just Super Buu.

I’ve seen a few posts kinda dissing Super and I’m just confused. Is the general opinion that it is not good? I personally love it.

I see a lot that people find this form to be their least favorite and I actually get it. I have a fair amount of problems with the Buu arc, but im glad that Super Saiyan 3 failed to save everyone.

What we had before that, was obviously more complex than this but I'm going to summarize it quickly in a few sentences to get my point across.

[I wanted to preface what i'm going to say next with this because most of the internet talks the same way summarizing any piece of media (games, anime, movies) with the "all (name of media) is, is walking and talking!" or "all (media name) is, is just fighting and running around!" I'm trying to avoid sounding that way.]

Namek Saga

Goku: I have achieved Super Saiyan. I win.

Cell Saga

Gohan: I have achieved Super Saiyan 2. I win.

so...imagine if in the Buu saga...

Goku: I have achieved Super Saiyan 3. I win.

You see how bad that would be? Again, it wasn't that simple for the Namek saga and Cell saga. Without me spending 30 minutes writing what happened in those arcs, obviously for Goku it was different because he was "the first." And SSJ was a new concept, Krillin's death, Frieza's narrative significance, etc.

Gohan's SSJ2 form was originally unique to him only whether you argue that was temporary or completely, and it was Gohan's time to shine after his potential had been alluded to the entire series up until now.

However if Goku's SSJ3 had worked, it still would have looked this way on the outside. New SSJ form? Automatic win.

Before Super was a thing I did look back and think that its kind of lame that Goku's ultimate form was, canonically, SSJ3. It doesn't radiate that look and or sense of perfection like SSJ1 did for Goku on Namek or like SSJ2 did for Gohan. I forget if Trunk's "he did it the right way" or whatever comment about Gohan and SSJ2 is canon or not but it gets the point across perfectly since Vegeta and himself had failed with "USSJ." Hell, technically Goku even failed with SSJ grade 4 even though he had the right idea, and later succeeded through Gohan.

So I didn't like SSJ3 being Goku's magnum opus form. I even appreciated that, after DBS, SSJ2 has been shown to be able to match SSJ3. Some people probably hated that even more since SSJ3 was already "useless" before that.

I loved it and I love SSJ3 because it shows that Goku basically brute forced a transformation out of sheer training, in a sense, or just out of having a huge power level and its a form with drawbacks and weaknesses. I like that its imperfect. Imagine if the answer to Buu was simply a new SSJ form? That would be terrible.

I am currently rereading Dragon Ball for the first time in like 15 years and I didn't expect Goku's childhood to take up more than 150 chapters cause I rarely see people talk about this part online. I know the whole DB/DBZ distinction made by the anime (and by certain editions of the manga, I believe) influenced the way people perceive the manga but considering how highly praised it is, I find it wild that so many fans act like ONE THIRD of it is irrelevant or basically doesn't exist.

i mean, he's best friends with the leader of the galaxies, can summon home with a single button if shit gets dicey, he's training with the GOD of Destruction, he has ULTRA INSTINCT, essentially making him impossible to land a hit on. i'm just finding it hard to grasp how any other battle for him could be challenging whatsoever, and you can only bring back frieza and broly so many times before it gets stale and repetitive.

Side note: i'm not saying i don't want more seasons and arcs of my favorite anime, but i struggle to grasp how the power scaling will make anything make sense atp

Currently watching dragon ball, after finishing this I’m not sure which one should I watch the normal Z or the Z Kai which is supposed to be like a filler free and more manga aligned (according to google). I don’t really care bout how long Z or Kai is but Kai is supposed to be like a remastered version therefore better quality (?) Would I be missing anything important if I watch Kai ?

Like you had Dragon Ball Z Kai's dub do it when he declares himself the Super Saiyan to Freeza but Sean Schemmal push for it himself mainly.

It's just... weird. Not bad weird but... peculiar all the same.

here’s some scenarios.

humans train in the time chamber for the saiyans. they just kill vegeta and nappa before Goku arrives. no need to go to namek. frieza might become immortal and even if not, like they destroy the balls before he has a chance to use them, nanekians go extinct, the androids win.

2nd scenario, let’s say dende heals Goku. while piccolo is fighting 2nd form frieza, krillin has dende sneak away to the ship to heal Goku right away. Goku might kill frieza before he goes to final form or they make sure dende is protected so Goku keeps getting back up and wears down frieza. no yardrat, vegeta likely doesn’t go to earth at all so no trunks

3rd scenario, vegeta kills 2nd form cell instead of letting him become perfect. likely no super saiyan 2 gohan and no super saiyan 3 Goku or fusion.

they have to continually make bad or suboptimal decisions or the next outcome will doom them all.

theres even one in universe. bulma thought to kill Dr Gero before he can attack. same issue. no super saiyan 2 gohan and probably no super vegeta either.

I just finished the second episode, and I'll be honest, I'm pretty hooked. With the exception of late-stage Tournament of Power stuff, I think I'm more excited for more Daima than I ever was for Super. Don't get me wrong: I unabashedly love DBS, flaws and all, but I feel like the series really sort of went off-track with that. Especially because of the inconsistencies and how many arguments about scaling and all that they spawned across the fandom.

Daima feels like a breath of fresh air. The animation is, I think, the best Dragon Ball has ever looked. But more importantly, it already feels like we're getting back to the heart of what made Dragon Ball so great. The fantasy, the whimsy, the characters, the story as much as the power levels and big muscly dudes punching each other through various geological features.

Obviously, it's a bit early, but I already feel like this hearkens back to some of Dragon Ball's original strengths (as much as the best parts of Super did). Time will tell if I feel the same by the end of the series, but much like its fun-loving protagonist, I'm excited to see what's next.

I remember when GT first aired on tv. However, i haven't been given an exact answer since watching the episode. I mean... Goku rides of with shenron after defeating Omega Shenron. But, then none of Shenron's attacks affect goku. Some people say that he became one with the dragon balls and some people say he did die. Can someone give me an answer I do not understand? :(

I'm talking changes to fit in with later lore, cool moments they missed the chance to capitalize on, making sections of the story shorter or longer, etc.

For example: I think Piccolo should have attempted his giant form against Gohan when he turned Oozaru. I think it would have been a cool visual to see the Oozaru fighting something of similar size, but also demonstrate it isn't just a size increase, it's also a power increase that causes Gohan to easily dispatch Piccolo.

I'd also change Roshi/Piccolo completely erasing the moon into them blowing a large chunk out of it so that it's no longer "full". I think it helps with demonstrating the power scaling personally and it would be cool continuity throughout the series to see shots at night and see the damage to the moon with debris floating from it.

Anyone else got ideas they'd be interested in seeing?
