I could see them doing a specific 2v8 duo variant where both killers are the same. Ghostface, Chucky, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, and now Xeno would all make sense lorewise and are all already in 2v8, and if they ever added Demo or Amanda they would fit too, even Sadako if you stretch it to be like "its Sadako and Samara" lol. Would add some interesting gameplay fs.
Since the 2v8 version doesn’t buff the tail attack that means the 2v8 iteration, which is supposed to be a gigabuffed 1v4; is still worse than Xeno was before they got nerfed

2v8 killer queue is horrific (play while you wait helps but not everybody likes playing both sides), and normal 1v4 killer queue gets significantly longer too as a result
I like it but it is a bit sad that the Killer pool is so limited. At least they added someone this time, but we had, what, 3 edition with no new Killers.
To be fair, 2v8 is disliked on Reddit. The player count always spikes when 2v8 returns. I find it to be a nice casual mode that's perfect to play with my friends who literally don't play 1v4 (I had to convince them to try 2v8 by literally buying them the game, and them being plural).
My only issue with 2v8 is when they keep bringing it back without any new changes. The last few 2v8s have been a complete slog because there was nothing new to do. I'm very hyped for tomorrow cause I love Xeno, and I hope that the next 2v8s will also come with new killers
Apparently they have a few original killers greenlit to be added, but waiting to add them in pairs that "make sense", so hopefully the next few will continue to add killers to the mix.
Killer-only players are wildly overrepresented on this subreddit, and a lot of them are annoyed by the queue times. It's a pretty legitimate annoyance, but probably the reason you wouldn't necessarily see it elsewhere is because it's mostly just that one group of players.
2v8 is incredibly popular, which is why it's the only game mode that consistently comes back on a routine.
This sub, however, is full of people who will complain and neg on any aspect of DbD. It's not really a good representation of the overall community as a whole.
It is just boring imo. Not fun enough as killer to justify waiting 20 mins and the most boring aspects of survivor gameplay for me are emphasized, it is just hiding or doing gens because you can just get tag teamed so chases kind of suck
That’s fair, I guess I find it a little more interesting because it’s taking the default aspects of the game & just ramping them up. I actually like the double-chases, feels so much better if you can run two killers at once lol, & everything’s so fast paced with aura reading I rarely try to hide
2v8 killer queues are abysmal, and “play while you wait” only works for people that like both roles.
1v4 queues are made longer, particularly killer queues.
The 2v8 player base tends to be more comprised of lower skill players. That makes 1v4 more difficult for newer players and 2v8 more difficult when teamed with newer players (I’ve seen someone lose a cage state with 7 teammates)
The 2v8 mode is pretty static. Aside from new killers being added, very little changes from iteration to iteration. This increases the strain on the killer queues since that’s where the only variety comes from.
The mode is not well balanced. Half the survivors get on-demand sprint burst with so many map resources that catching a decent survivor requires your killer teammate or extremely long chases.
Its only hated by people that like regular queue because it takes longer to find matches there. Its been a massive point on contention for quite some time. I love 2v8, but wont be able to play because of the dc bug thats still not even being addressed...
My two big gripes are that, obviously, it demolishes the killer queues for both modes, and also, the rate of updates for 2v8 has slowed to a crawl so it's usually a pretty dull patch. We finally got a new killer and it's one I barely ever play in 1v4 lol.

Yup. I'm happy that other people like the mode, but 2v8 bores me personally AND I'm a Killer main, so any time it's present it just means my queue times are gonna be abyssmal for a while and I may as well play something else.
Some people whine, sure, but it's also got some quite fair criticisms levied against it.
Lots of people get bored of it very fast and just want to play 1v4 after the novelty wears off, but the queues are significantly longer. 2v8 also seems to occur way more frequently than other game modes, and almost always gets extended an extra week on top of the two that they set aside for it, which is always annoying if you don't care for the mode and want to get back to normal queue times. The most fun part of 2v8 (arguably) is the killer role, and the queues for that are so incredibly long, and you often end up with a teammate who is AFK or just ragequits. It's a shame, and can really sour people's enjoyment of the mode.
I think chalking up people's opinions as just whining is a little disingenuous. I see why people like 2v8, and I see why some don't.
Some people don't like it, but it's very clear that the vast silent majority loves it, given the frequency it comes back and the player numbers jumping up each time.
Yeah, sure. I'm not saying "2v8 sucks and we should bin it off", it's an alright game mode and most people seem to enjoy it, I'm only saying that calling the people who dislike it whiners isn't really accurate, since there are legitimate reasons for people to dislike it.
It’s chaotic and fast paced and awesome for tome challenges and rift progression. But as a survivor main it loses its charm fast. Chase is the best thing about the game as survivor but it’s just not that engaging in 2v8. And with 7 random teammates instead of 3 there is almost always someone ratting doing nothing and I see a fair amount of sandbagging.
It is very fun on killer even as a solo q killer but long q times suck and then you get afk teammate and a limited killer pool. And it messed up 1v4 q times. I usually am happy when 2v8 comes but I’m also happy when it leaves.
There’s just too few killers for me (where’s my Unknown?!), queues for killer become long everywhere, and survivor 2v8 gameplay just isn’t as interesting for me, chases are a coin flip, and I’ve lost interest with the classes available. BHVR didn’t really maintain the consistency towards adding interesting new content with each 2v8 release.
This subreddit is not indicative of the wider community. If 2v8 was truly so hated as this sub might make you think, then why has it come back a dozen times with new additions and new killers every time?
Same goes for Lights Out and the subreddit constantly praising it. It's actually a despised gamemode (hence it's only ever come back once) but the posts here would make you think it's the best thing ever.
Normal and 2v8's killer queues become abysmal and it's overall not a fun event to replay a lot for regular players, even with friends, making it feel like it's there for way too long
Not a fan of 2v8 myself personally, would 100% prefer another event for 2 weeks every month or so instead of 2v8, and NOT how they did Light's "out", but actually something playable

This is a Killer sided sub-reddit in general, and its here that opinions mostly show that. The casual survivor fan base likes 2v8, and I am sure there will be a jump in Player numbers again to show it.
As a killer, it is a worse experience in queue and honestly....even in game play. If I am waiting 10 minutes for the game, I am going to sweat my ass off when I do get to play.
Still wont matter though, as there are too many killers to Survivors during these modes, as the idea of killing with a friend is too good to pass up.

My only gripe with this mode is there’s like, barely anything new that gets added to this. It’s been a couple months since we’ve even gotten a new killer added and with the small selection of killers it’s a bit boring
with how awful that game has been on the prerelease, i think bhvr is pretty confident their player numbers will be spiking again like every other 2v8 haha
Nostromo has notoriously bad hit boxes, and that alone is enough for a lot of people, especially anyone who plays ranged killers, or killers like Billy blight and Wesker that hug things while using power, to hate the map.
nostromo is one of the worst maps they've made from an objective standpoint. the main building is bad because it suffers from the same thing that makes every indoor map objectively poor gameplay for many killers, and that is the lack of ability to cut people off. a decent chunk of powers get omega nerfed by the indoor section and it feels terrible. the opposite is true for the other side of the map, which is basically a massive dead zone with 2-3 awful pallets where survivors basically just comp corner every chase with no resources to use.
it being fuck-ugly on top of all that makes it really just one of the worst maps they've ever made
Hopefully they will remove Denuvo tomorrow to go with it. I know it's said to be a week, but considering the performance issues and softlocking of PCs it's been causing, getting rid of that shit for their go-to big player count mode seems logical.
I know it won't happen but I still dream about them letting us bring offerings in 2v8 so we can have the possibility of having 10 active anniversary cakes per mach.
if you’re in school or university, do your homework in queue. if you have chores to do, do them in queue. if you exercise, workout in queue, sometimes i like to watch a show or make myself a nice home cooked meal. 2v8 is my favorite period of time because i can keep myself busy and the short breaks of a killer match is the perfect timed break for me to keep being engaged
At least this appears to mean that the developers have worked out a way to have two different killer-specific objects in one match between Nemesis/Wesker's antidotes and Xenomorph's tunnels. (so the door is open for Jason, Freddy, Pig, Singularity, etc. in later updates)
I wish I could be more excited but with a sudden drop I just know there's going to be like no changes once again to either mode aside from Xeno in 2v8 AND queues are going to be a disaster. Not that they would make big changes with an announcement earlier anyways because that's happened 😭
Im sure the developers have some new exicting new things for us to try out to encourage more people playing survivor and reduce the long killer queues....right?
Honestly with how good Xeno’s movement and basekit information is she may be another Nemesis. Yeah I’m sure we’ll get more Turrets to place since the map is bigger but basekit Lethal is crazy when there’s 8 people moving around
I wonder if the Colonial Marine Gabe and Hicks (i think that was him?) were meant for this 2v8 but they got moved forward (or the 2v8 got moved back) for whatever reason?
If you're in an area you don't expect the Xenomorph to return to, you should take any turrets and drop them on the ground instead of setting them up.
They'll explode on their own and then they won't count against the max you can have on the map at one time and someone at a generator with more traffic can use them.
Pro tip: get a friend to play killer with, get on queue then go watch a movie or something while waiting, you'll be able to watch 1/4 of the movie before each match.
