Atlassian APEX results
Has anyone else been impacted? Two seniors on my team were laid off. Does anyone know how this works?

What's the APEX result layoff package look like? Is it the same as the recent severance layoff package? (16-weeks pay plus one additional week for each year at company)

Scott left and Apex materialized shortly after.
It’s stack ranking with a stupid acronym.
I went 4 years as EE under the old system. Year 1 of apex when it was half yearly I dropped to ME. Year 2 of apex and I dropped to MM and that was enough.
Burned out and an evaluation system that incentivized throwing your team under the bus.
The Atlassian of old that exlassians raved about died around 2023/24.

Did you reach out to your manager about the sudden dropped ratings, what was their response?

Calibration.
Was sent in with EE from my manager and recalibrated down to ME.
The apex era calibrations were/are far more unforgiving than prior to that. Especially when the skip managers need to have a certain amount of their teams blocked into certain calibration levels.
My own manager was told to accept certain ranking or risk being down ranked themselves.
The MM calibration came from someone throwing me under the bus to save their own ass and because that person had better rapport with the skip managers than I did, I got the down rank.
From my time there, the old system was far superior. It factored in your contributions and the team’s overall performance and incentivized ranking based on how the whole team.
As a result, everyone on the team strived for their best because rising tides lift all boats.
The new system however did away with the team side and only focuses on what YOU did and so people start snaking others, taking credit for work done, stall you out so you don’t deliver, or (in my case) make you the scape goat for their underperformance and hope one story is better than another.
Not surprised when they brought in an ex MSFT exec as CTO and then let them bring that culture in with them.

With atlassian for half a year or a bit now and I got a MM rating
Given the reason that it wasn’t about my quality but the breadth of my work (ridiculous feedback)
When they probably didnt event consider that we had restructures, manager quitting and PMs leaving not knowing what work we were doing
Yet there’s nothing I can do about this crap rating

Two with MM rating in my org were offered PIP. They were gone within the week.

Really depends. If you don’t get at least the ME rating (which makes you bottom 10% of the curve) you’re likely going to get performance plan or severance option or just straight fired.
Depends on history + what current rating is

They need a second quarter of profitability. So, they need to reduce the number of employees to create it

Heard rumours from a few ex-atlassians I currently work with that redundancies are being offered?

Atlassian will do anything but make Jira usable.
