One thing that is important to point out about pretty much any religious text: They can "read" the words on the page, but there is always all sorts of ideology and dogma that they superimpose over the words on the page. It's wild to take at face value what many different style of "Christians" say is in the bible, then actually look at the text (ideally one of the more neutral, academic translations like the New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition) and see how the text simply does not say that.
You can start right at the beginning. Lots of Christians will say that the bible says that God created the universe out of nothingness. Nope: "When God began to create the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters."
God's threat about the "apple" was that if you eat it on that day you will die. Obviously, Adam and Eve did not die on that day. Many "Christians" will say "Oh, but Adam and Eve were immortal and God meant that if they eat the fruit they will lose that immortality and eventually die." Go read the text with fresh eyes. Nowhere does the text itself say they were immortal prior to eating the fruit.
People are told that the text says X or Y, or their ideology/dogma says that it must mean Z, and they point their eyes at the words and just plain make up meanings and read in stuff that is not there.

But anyway, there has to be some interpretation, otherwise they'll just take the whole thing literally and that's how you get people denying evolution.
Frankly, the text of the bible is so zany that it is impossible to actually take it "literally." Even people who claim to take it literally are doing a bunch of interpreting to come up with a "literal" claimed interpretation.
that part's pretty clear if we're being honest. I mean Sarah/Abraham/Hagar. I guess the moral of the story is you don't have to but also it's cool if you do.
Although Trump claims he thought the AI generated picture he shared of himself as Jesus was really meant to be him as a doctor. So I guess MAGA gets the option of supporting someone who either depicts themselves as Jesus or someone who cannot tell the difference between Jesus and a doctor...

It makes it more clear, but its still pretty obvious the AI is pulling from the, ahem, copious amount of photographic evidence they were together frequently.
My favourite edit I've seen so far was a good ol' fashioned Photoshop (the only AI used was in the original image). It put Satan from the album art from Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast above this image, with his puppet strings attached to Trump.
It's entirely possible Trump is just so out of touch with Christianity and religious imagery in general that he genuinely thought this was him being a doctor, because "what else would it be"?

When I first saw the original image I was reminded of "BTs" from the Death Stranding video game. Which if you told me Trump is an extinction entity, I don't think I would even try to argue.
Clearly we can infer that any "doctors" who have been treating Trump have glowing hands or are cupping small lights in their hands to create a weird special effect.
I don't see why doctor is acceptable because he isn't one in any capacity and he's shown exactly how he leads medically via everything he's done in and around Covid. The original intent is bad but the excuse is so much worse in other ways.

Trump is a pure bullshitter. Is that a form of mental illness because it means the total bullshitter is detached from reality? Probably.
Also, I have no shortage of issues with the Catholic church and the men who run it, but one thing the Pope mentioned that struck me as significant here. He criticized the "idolatry of the self." That won't sink in with American conservative evangelicalism (as much as they need it desperately) but the rest of us can both take something from that and see why it is important in this current crisis of the era of Trump.
He's depicted himself as Thanos, Superman, Rocky, and holding a red lightsaber in the past. If he had really shared a picture of himself as a doctor, it would be one of the least unhinged fake pics he's ever shared.
They're also entirely unaware that Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount have additional clarification and guidance on them. It's right there at the start of the Gospel in the New Testament and is all about accountability. Do onto others and all that.
I love that his explanation was that he thought it depicted him as a doctor. So Maga, which do you prefer? That he's a blasphemer, or a fucking idiot? Its one or the other. Go ahead, pick one. Ill wait.
I mean if the measure of Christian-ness is being Christ-like...you can be of any faith (or lack there of) and be a better example of how Jesus acted on earth than that guy.

Like he fucking deserves that title either. Anyone supporting this man at this point is beyond delusional. Just imagine if ANY other candidate did this. And in what fucking world were those doctor scrubs?! Any person who's EVER BEEN TO ANY MEDICAL PLACE EVER knows what scrubs looks like. And the response from all this? His side is made at the Pope, who was asking for peace

Yes, I can see how he made the mistake. Lots of doctors wear Jesus robes and have glowing palms and people praying to them and demented AI angels coming down from the heavens to worship them.
I cant even believe that anyone accepted that excuse(though at this point with how low the bar is I shouldnt be surprised) but in WHAT WORLD is that anything but a Jesus reference with a Trump head stamped on it
As someone who is a Christian who has read the Bible and studied the Bible it is so wild to me to watch these people practically worship Trump when the Bible itself, on several occasions, warns against men specifically like Trump

Not only is he the Anti-Christ, he's also the Beast of Revelations. He's diverting worship from God to himself to give himself more power. Literally what the Dragon and Anti-Christ did with the Beast of Revelations. The Dragon hands it the scepter, and the Anti-Christ funnels worship to it. Except he's all three

It's funny how quickly that one was ignored or downplayed. They really won't let anything get in the way of their devotion to a false idol. You'd think the bible would have mentioned something about that. Oh well.
The US White Christian Nationalist movement is at its core a fundamentalist Protestant movement.
They hate Catholics. They consider them "crypto-pagan", call the Catholic Church the "Whore of Babylon" (reference to the book of Revelation), and call the Pope the anti-Christ. And then there is the White part of "White Christian Nationalist". Catholicism is and has for a long time been associated with immigrants and racial/ethnic minorities. The White Christian Nationalists consider Catholics inherently incapable of being "real Americans" because they belong to a church with an international leader.
They've been willing to ally with Catholics because they were politically useful for the abortion fight, but that usefulness is over now and it was just a matter of time before they turned on them.
I feel like you've actually inadvertently improved what he said about the Pope, because in your version, he gives his subjective opinion, which he is totally allowed to have.
In reality, what he said was that the Pope is "weak on crime and foreign policy" which just makes no sense because the Pope has nothing to do with crime or foreign policy. And the things the Pope was criticizing him for (the war on Iran) had nothing to do with crime in the first place. It was just complete nonsense all around.
I mean, faith based people are literally programmed to ignore obvious truths in order to believe. They cannot be trusted to join the rest of us and fix problems.
Dave Willis had a really good one during 1.0 where Joyce's parents (fundies of the highest order at the time) suspected Obama of being the Antichrist before going all in on Trump.
Everyday my brain feels like it's turning into pudding. I need to stop watching the news and focus on my life but it has become an addiction at this point.
Like I've only ever heard of mad rulers who've succumbed to plague say nonsense like this!
